Chapitre 76: Seeing Chris again

A new morning, a new day.

As Adrian woke up and found himself in his familiar bed and bedroom, a satisfied and peaceful smile spread across his face.

After freshening up, he opened his wardrobe, revealing an array of suits, all in black. He wasn't quite sure when he had started wearing such suits or what had made him stick with them, but one thing was certain – he loved it.

Adrian got dressed and held his ever-faithful cane in one hand as he exited his room. Not finding Emilie around, he surmised that she was still asleep and needed the rest as much as he did.

He decided to check on her to ensure that everything was safe and sound, recalling the day he had seen a monster lurking beside her pillow.

'I should ask her what it was. Maybe she knows and I wont have worry about it then.'

Lost in thought, Adrian left the house and couldn't help but appreciate the sunny winter morning. The tranquility of the morning lifted his spirits as he observed a few people going about their business.

Adrian decided to take a stroll through the neighborhood to clear his mind. He felt the need to unwind and relax after the recent stressful experiences.

While he wanted to visit Alan, he knew that he should first stop by and see Chris, a longtime friend who had helped him through numerous bizarre situations in the past.

As Adrian walked past a children's park, he couldn't help but come to a halt as he noticed a cat seemingly stuck at the top of a tree.

'One should help others whenever the opportunity arrives.'

Emilie and Selena would have been quite surprised if they could hear Adrian's thoughts, as his willingness to help the cat was a far cry from his usual demeanor.

He wasn't one to assist a cat in coming down from a tree; usually, he'd be more inclined to put it up there in the first place. The whims of fate worked in mysterious ways.

Adrian couldn't deny the adorable charm of the kitten as he approached the tree and gazed up at it. Despite his usual demeanor, the sight of the cute cat tugged at his heartstrings.

The idea of bringing the kitten home crossed Adrian's mind as he considered the possibility of providing a new companion for Emilie. The thought of the stray cat finding a caring home stirred a sense of warmth within him.

Adrian's attempt to coax the cat down was met with a comical response as the feline climbed higher into the tree, seemingly misunderstanding his intentions. Adrian couldn't help but sigh at the cat's antics.

'Where are your natural instincts to trust humans? I'm just trying to help you out here,' Adrian muttered, his voice filled with as much soothing charm as he could muster.

In response to Adrian's words, the cat hissed back, as if saying, "I'm trusting my instincts; that's why I'm up here, away from you, you sheep in wolf's clothing."

Chuckling at his own musings, Adrian stopped teasing the cat and let it be. If the cat didn't appreciate his help, there was no point dwelling on it.

Adrian decided to take his leave, as he urgently wanted to visit Chris. While Mother Gaze hadn't acted for now, or maybe she had, but he couldn't tell, he still felt the need to know.

Curiosity nagged at him, compelling Adrian to find out who she was. It made sense for her to take notice of him due to Henry's death, but the prolonged surveillance left him perplexed.

Adrian exited the park and continued on his way to see Chris. It wasn't early morning anymore, and he strolled through the same food street he had visited before.

Glancing around, he couldn't help but chuckle at how Alaya had been playing with him here.

'She really made fun out of me but well, I did her dirty in return so we are even for now.'

Lost in his thoughts, Adrian reached The Baroness Was Innocent, the evergreen bar. As he pushed the door open, the familiar chime of the bell greeted him, and he was met with the usual empty atmosphere.

It made sense; visiting a bar this early in the morning was something only a fool would do.

Adrian glanced at the bar counter and saw the same unique and peculiar face of Chris, his expression adorned with a sly smile that hinted at mischief.

"You've finally found the time to grace me with your presence. I've been attempting to get in touch with you for quite a while, but my messages never seemed to reach you,"

Chris remarked as he poured a glass of water for Adrian, fully aware of his usual beverage preference.

Adrian sat down at the counter, took a few sips from the glass, and then fixed his gaze on Chris, who seemed puzzled by his actions.

"What?"

"This place smells weird."

"That's all you have to say coming after six months?"

"Huh?"

'Its been six months?'

Adrian was genuinely surprised this time. He was certain they hadn't spent more than three months in the dream realm, but now he was being told that it had been six months.

'Was the mansion able to tweak with my perspective? Or was it the tower?'

It was truly frightening that he couldn't keep track of time, but that was in the past now, and he was back in the real world.

"Don't worry about it. Tell me if there is any news about the person you were trying to contact for me," asked Adrian, not wanting to delve deeper into discussions about the Dream Realm with Chris. He was done with it for now.

"Why else would I even reach out to you?" Chris inquired, reminiscing about a conversation he had with her a month ago.

"She agreed to meet us. It required a considerable amount of persuasion, but as reliable as I am, I managed to make it happen," he added, all the while ensuring he presented himself in a favorable light to Adrian.

"I've heard you loud and clear. Now, tell me, when can we meet her?" Adrian inquired eagerly, recognizing the pressing importance of this matter and realizing that he needed to gather information about this mysterious figure he had been calling Mother Gaze.

He could tell his life was going to get a lot more enjoyable.
