Chapitre 18: Chapter Seventeen

Second rank Sorcerer...

What a letdown...

I sighed, reclining in my chair and looking at my notebook as Akira's and Geto's banter sounded in the room.

Reverse cursed energy was a tricky thing, and Shoko's explanation made little sense. But I had a few hunches.

The sketch of a human body I had in the notebook was what I started with, that sketch turned to five and then nine until I finally had something I understood.

The first theory was a river, flowing through the body signifying cursed energy, reverse cursed energy would be that river flowing backward, but I had no idea how that would work.

My cursed technique was water manipulation so I thought if I treated it like water, it would work. It didn't unfortunately.

The second, third, and fourth sketches signified the natural flow of cursed energy throughout my body, the idea behind that was that if I forcefully pulled it back, it would work, but it didn't.

The fifth one was something even I wasn't sure of, hand signs to make it work, but there were no records of that, so that idea was discarded quickly.

The ideas from there until the eighth were connected to more physical activities, like running backward, making cursed energy collide with itself, and even chanting.

Stupid, but still...

And finally, the final and the most successful one so far, doing the complete opposite of my cursed technique.

Instead of making ice, I tried to make fire, but so far, that was all the success I had.

In order to make fire, I needed three things, Oxygen, Heat, and Fuel.

Oxygen was simple enough, that was everywhere, heat and fuel were the tricky parts. Instead of the cold, I needed to make a spark with my technique and the fuel had to be my cursed energy.

I sighed, getting up and closing the notebook, walking to the door.

"Where are you going?"

I turned my head, eyeing shook for a moment, and shrugged.

"Smoke break."

She nodded and got up as I opened the door, letting her walk through first as I followed her after, closing it behind me.

"So, a new idea you're working on in that notebook of yours?"

I nodded, digging into my pocket and taking out a pack of cigarettes, opening the lid, I pushed one out of the neat rows and put the bud between my lips, taking it out and storing the pack again.

"What is it this time?"

She asked and I just handed her the notebook. Taking it, she flipped through the pages with interest, going to the last page and raising an eyebrow.

"Reverse cursed energy, huh..."

Her eyes went over the writing and the sketches for a moment.

"You have a much more... Scientific approach to Jujutsu, don't you?"

I shrugged again as we exited the building. Taking the notebook back as she handed it to me.

"Got a lighter?"

I asked, even though I had one in my pocket. She took it out in response, lighting her own cigarette first and looking at me with a smirk as she exhaled the smoke.

I raised an eyebrow at her for a moment and watched as she played with it for a moment.

"I do, but what are you going to do if I don't give it?"

She was in a playful mood... I hummed and leaned down, pressing the tip of my unlit cigarette to hers and inhaling, lighting mine and pulling back, exhaling the smoke as I turned to the railing and leaned on it.

I hummed, eyeing her in my peripheral vision, smirking as she looked down at the cigarette between her lips, then at me, and huffed, turning to the railing and leaning on it too.

I exhaled another puff of smoke, my mind swirling with the thoughts of how to connect the heat and my cursed energy, it would be easier if I could create a spark, but I was still figuring that out.

Humming in thought, I looked up at the darkening sky, it would rain soon, but that would usually provide an advantage for me, however, I wasn't in a fight...

I sighed, mental images were harder than I thought they would be...

"Can you use reversed cursed technique on me for a moment?"

I asked, holding out my arm as the water in the atmosphere condensed, creating a cut on my palm. Shoko raised an eyebrow and extended her palm, hovering it over my own.

I narrowed my eyes, feeling out her cursed energy as it sparked within her, spreading down her hand from her core and to her palm, before seeking out into the air, escaping the confines of her body.

My own cursed energy rose from my hand, connecting to hers, or trying to anyway. It was almost as if my energy was repulsed by hers.

I guess the clash of negative and positive would have an outcome like this...

Pulling back my cursed energy, I let the cut heal as I observed it.

As far as I knew, she had no medical knowledge, so the fact that it just worked was mind-boggling, and very annoying.

I wanted to figure that out and I would, because fuck me, I was salty about all those hours of the medical course going to waste.

"Just... Cover your hand in cursed energy for a moment..."

She raised an eyebrow, but complied and I did the same, connecting my cursed energy with hers. She shivered, looking at our hands with furrowed brows.

"That feels... Very weird."

I nodded, it did feel weird, but that was not the point.

"Now, use reverse cursed energy, please."

She did, and I felt it, the process was complicated and hard to describe, but the feeling was there, and it was... complete bullshit.
