Kido Island, is an inconspicuous little island in the Indonesian "Thousand Islands," home to over 15,000 people.
The name of this island is based on the "Queen Giselle of Kedul" in Indonesian mythology,
According to legend, Queen Giselle of Kedul was also known as the South Sea Queen. She was a divine spirit of the sea with a human face and a fish body, much like a mermaid, capable of protecting the people from maritime disasters.
Kido Island doesn't have white sandy beaches or stunning scenery, and it's too far from major cities like Jakarta to be developed as a tourist resort.
Fortunately, the land is fertile.
And the locals can make a living by fishing at sea, so it can be considered a pleasant and prosperous life.
However, all of this started to change five years ago.
