Jody stepped forward and bowed, "Mother."
"Do you know why these people tried to kill you?" asked Lady Isis.
Jody remained silent.
Could there be a reason related to himself?
He had thought they were merely enemies of the family.
"Answer me when I speak to you, Josiah." Lady Isis glanced at her son, her voice no longer gentle.
Jody looked up at his mother, suspecting that his time acting like a child had ended.
"I don't know, mother. Please educate me!"
"When you transformed origin into mana earlier with that sage art your 'Grandpa Geb' gave you, all the origin energy in this wing was drawn into your transformation platform. Your platform burned through the set restraints. The massive energy influx even helped Sek Si break past her bottleneck, and her formula level will soon enter the next rank," Lady Isis spoke slowly and deliberately.
Jody could tell by how his mother said his grandpa's name that she didn't like him. However, now wasn't the time for him to comment on this.
Lady Isis raised her sight and stared at the platform before continuing, "And you, you went from Beginner Freshman to Intermediate Freshman in less than two days."
"Is that bad, ma?" asked Jody sincerely.
His genuine confusion was apparent in his voice. Was being excellent a bad thing?
Lady Isis sighed helplessly. She was momentarily speechless. How could she be upset with the child for what he didn't know? Was it his fault he was a genius? Should she beat him for being too openly outstanding? Of course, she couldn't bring herself to do that. This wasn't the boy's fault.
"It's not bad, my Jody...it's amazing. It is simply far too amazing. There are more bad people than good in this world, Josiah. As a family, we have...many enemies. Mighty enemies. Do you understand, baby? Some people want to hurt us, and bad. They will stop at nothing to do so..."
"I think I get it...but why mom?" asked Jody.
"This...isn't something you can know. At least, not right now. You're safer that way," sighed his mother.
"Ma, they almost killed Sek! Who are they!? I want to know!" Shouted Jody, slightly affected by the remnant rage laws within himself.
Lady Isis was caught off guard by Jody's sudden aggression. Sensing the violent force lingering on him, she grew frightened. But when she remembered how Jody had clobbered that Sophomore Rank thug with brute strength, she sobered up.
'So he comprehended some kind of law then...incredible.'
Her baby had just killed a man to protect his friend, even though he had never even thought of defending himself because he knew she was there. The boy didn't even act like he had done anything exciting. Actually, Isis suddenly felt grateful for Sek Si. Neither she nor Jody would see his potential so clearly without her presence.
And she would still hesitate...but not now.
'Who was this child in his last life…' Lady Isis pondered, only half-joking with herself.
Isis thought to use the terror of this experience to scare some caution into this hard-headed brat. Who knew he was this outstanding? The boy had created his own arcana at that moment. It rivaled the strength of Divine Life Arts.
Jody even killed one of the enemies for her.
Furthermore, he didn't even seem to put what he had just done in his mind. Isis chalked this up to him being a mere child. Perhaps he didn't know yet to fear death or the weight of taking a life. She would have to address this so he didn't become too callous. Or perhaps, as a medjay of the True Pharaoh of Death and the Underworld, Jody had a natural resistance to such things.
Isis couldn't be sure.
In reality, Jody really hadn't taken killing that man to heart.
Trill Jody was a man who had already killed thousands already, if not more. The world government of his past was ruthless and vindictive. Jody was their tool for slaughter. Killing one man in self-defense could never move his heart.
However, totally unaware of this, Isis couldn't help but be impressed and a bit fearful of her son's temperament. That damn old wolf had made Sek Si kill a man earlier in the trip. The unfortunate thing was that she kept throwing up for two days. The two children's mentalities were worlds apart from each other. On top of that, the boy had the potential to become a Spiritual Master!
She had felt his perception touch her while she was still hiding from him. This definitely proved it.
"Isis, our boy has the potential to become a master!" a sweet voice called out in Lady Isis' mind. "As he should. After all, he most likely has inherited your bloodline. I never realized that being the host soul plays such a crucial role."
"Mn, I felt it as well, Niagara," Isis nodded imperceptibly. Niagara rarely spoke to her alone, so Isis was momentarily stunned. "It is my biggest fear that he has inherited my bloodline."
Master was a title given only to those who could study Divine Law or the ability to communicate with and produce law runes with spiritual force. The prerequisite for this: a powerful soul. This was a matter directly related to the soul, making it extremely rare. At any rate, this little boy was mysterious and tough. Much like herself as a child.
He was also a fallen, identical to her current self. Isis could remember her father being in awe of her childhood displays in the same way she was shocked by her son.
Thinking this, she smiled.
"Those people were spying on us. While we were aware of that, it didn't seem like they intended to take any action. They just wanted to monitor us. However, they finally managed to find this room. All of this while the others are still away," Mistress Frozen Night started explaining to her son. "I was originally unconcerned, as they were unlikely to reveal themselves. Plus, they are filth, and I did not wish to dirty my perception. However, they were probably forced to report it immediately once you accidentally showed them how dazzling you are."
Lady Isis paused and then said, "They wouldn't have revealed themselves without being ordered to do so."
"Am I free to talk now, mother?" asked Jody after his mother was silent for a few moments.
"Speak, my love, why not speak?" Said Lady Isis serenely.
"Who is that?" Jody pointed to the dull-looking child who kept mysteriously appearing but never spoke.
Jody had trouble remembering this child, but his spirit source kept a blurry image of him. After talking to Sylvester, he realized he had been constantly forgetting or totally ignoring this child's presence since he arrived. Luckily, he had asked the sky wolf to stay alert.
"Hm?" Lady Isis glanced down at the dull-looking child indifferently. She felt a bit surprised her son was able to notice it. "How long have you been aware of Bright?"
"How long?" Jody thought this question was odd, but he still answered. "Since I first arrived with Ke."
Isis was surprised. Bright unlocked a unique origin ability when it stepped onto its god path. This ability prevented anyone with mental power weaker than it from properly discerning its presence. Her son being able to sense him was unfathomable. But since the boy had only asked now, perhaps he was somewhat affected.
