Base 189.
This was a training base where high technology and magic intertwined, featuring both the mystique of magic and the application of quantum technology.
Under the radiance of the authority of magic, the base, originally bathed in sunlight with pleasant temperatures and far from the Sea of Death, had once bustled with seven thousand people.
But now, silence reigned. Steam rose from the cooking food, faucets flowed ceaselessly, and the corridors were eerily quiet, devoid of any human voices.
Everyone lay in their positions, faces turning blue, without any sign of breath.
"Such an advanced and interesting gathering."
Hades manifested from the sunlit corridor, his figure faint and ethereal. He wore the cloak and hood symbolizing the Grim Reaper, the hood covering most of his face, revealing only his hooked nose in the darkness. The Grim Reaper's scythe floated behind him as he moved.
This was the standard image of a death god in the eyes of humans, and this attire and scythe could grant him tremendous power wielded through his authority as the underworld god, meaning the death god.
Though mortal lives were insignificant, the collective beliefs and faith they gathered provided considerable power.
Even though he didn't want to appear in this form, he had no choice. He didn't want to provoke the Emperor of New Krypton and end up beaten half to death, thus losing face as Hades, the ruler of the underworld.
His faint figure stepped out of the corridor and gradually solidified.
In the end, he had agreed to Steppenwolf's proposal, unable to resist the longing for freedom that life held.
But working alone or with Darkseid was undoubtedly seeking disaster. He needed to find an ally that even Darkseid would fear.
"Hmm, here she comes."
Hades raised his head slightly under the hood and looked toward the ceiling, then flew upward through it, passing through the sunlit sky to hover above.
In the distance, a curtain of light unfolded, a spatial portal formed from space bridge technology and magic modifications that could transport large armies to any location.
Athena, majestic and sacred, with an air of power mixed with holiness, stepped out of the teleportation gate in her white half-robe, half-armor battle attire. She wore a staff sword at her waist. Seeing Hades, who appeared ready for battle, in his attire that even borrowed power from faith, a slight smile graced her beautiful face, her eyebrows raised.
"Hades, are you intending to wage war against New Krypton?" Athena's voice was crisp, carrying a resolute tone of battle. She wasn't just the goddess of wisdom, arts, and protector of maidens; she was also the goddess of war.
Over a hundred faculty members behind Athena began to spread out, making precautionary arrangements.
Hades, his eyes hidden in the shadow of his hood, glanced at the faculty members dispersing and then fixed his gaze on Athena, tall, sacred, and iron-willed.
"Athena, have you forsaken the Olympian pantheon and become nothing more than a lapdog for New Krypton?" Hades laughed heartily from within the shadows of his hood, his voice echoing.
He knew what Athena was up to.
They were all just fighting for survival, after all.
But he just had to belittle her verbally, as he is displeased with all the main gods of the Olympian pantheon, including Zeus.
"If you come to reminisce with me in the identity of an Olympian deity, even though I have nothing much to say to you, I will still open a banquet and warmly welcome your arrival with courtesy.
But if you come to deal with New Krypton in conspiracy with Steppenwolf, then you are only my enemy.
Believe me, Hades, you wouldn't want to face the Emperor of New Krypton."
Athena's crisp voice rang out, resolute and unwavering.
She knew how powerful H'el was.
And she also knew how much strength Hades had. He wouldn't be a match for H'el.
Hades chuckled, extending his hand from within the cloak of death. His palm facing upward, souls continuously emitted eerie cries, swirling around his hand.
"I demand an audience with your Emperor of New Krypton. Let him come out and meet me." Hades formed a round, transparent soul cage in the palm of his hand, inside which the souls of seven thousand individuals from Base 189 wailed eerily.
These seven thousand souls were the individuals from Base 189, whose souls Hades had extracted and was now playing with in the palm of his hand.
Athena drew her sword from her waist with a resounding clang, her dignified face displaying unwavering resolve.
"New Krypton will not tolerate any threats! Hades, release the seven thousand souls. Otherwise, you will face me, the goddess of wisdom and war, Athena!"
Athena was getting angry.
In the Realm of the Gods, each Olympian deity had their own territories, and it was perfectly fine for them to engage in occasional skirmishes for entertainment; the gods didn't mind.
After all, if a human died, they could always take a break from fighting and reproduce for a while.
It was like playing chess.
Even if you possessed someone and guided mortals with wisdom, teaching them or instructing a few priests or messengers, it wasn't a big deal.
But you couldn't just come down with immense power and start wiping out mortals directly; how would that be entertaining?
Athena even solemnly declared some of her divine authorities, announcing her intention to go to war.
Hades fell silent immediately.
In Hades's view, New Krypton didn't fall within the rules of the Olympian pantheon, but Athena did.
Strictly speaking, if Athena really wanted to start a war with the Underworld, she had a legitimate reason to stand up for righteousness.
At that time, a bunch of busybody Olympian deities would be happy to join in, allowing their respective territories to launch a joint attack on the Underworld. Going to war in the Underworld was just routine for them.
"Heh, loyal indeed... Tell your Emperor to come out. I have some information he might find interesting," Hades chuckled and casually tossed the soul sphere he held in his hand.
The souls wailed as they swiftly descended towards the ground.
Athena expressionlessly sheathed her sword at her waist and calmly said, "The Emperor attends to many matters. Unless necessary, he won't meet with you."
"Regarding the news of the flesh and blood of Doomsday? I believe your Emperor will be very interested in it." Hades' hooked nose twitched from within his hood as he grinned.
Few people knew about the flesh of Doomsday, not even Darkseid.
Only Zeus and the cosmic guardians guarded the secret.
But Zeus had borrowed many artifacts from him, and all the energy from those artifacts was being used to suppress the Doomsday, and these artifacts' energy specifically pointed to Oa!
Athena glanced at Hades with surprise in her eyes and turned away, saying lightly, "I will inform the Emperor. Await his summons."
Hades stood still, his death cloak fluttering lightly in the gentle breeze.
