Chapitre 77: CHAPTER 77

Moreover, the Infinity Gauntlet needed to recognize its owner.

Rhodes, upon acquiring the Infinity Gauntlet, deeply imprinted his divine sense onto it. Much like Iron Man's long-range mecha satellite, it could fly continuously, guided by the system's instructions, to replace parts of the steel suit lost during battles.

No matter where in the universe the Infinity Gauntlet might be, Rhodes could summon it to his side at any time. When Rhodes issued commands through his divine sense, the Infinity Gauntlet would display no power.

This was why Rhodes could confidently let the Infinity Gauntlet, adorned with five Infinity Gems, fall into Thanos's hands.

Rhodes simply needed to issue commands to the Infinity Gauntlet to block its powers, rendering it nothing more than an ornament adorned with colorful gems, devoid of any power.

Rhodes had capitalized on Thanos's eagerness to wield the Infinity Gauntlet, enticing him to procure the last Soul Gem that Rhodes struggled to obtain.

The Infinity Gauntlet, now with six Infinity Gems inlaid, was securely in Rhodes's hands.

Rhodes proceeded to use the Infinity Gauntlet to draw power from the Soul Gem. The energy from the six different colored Infinity Gems danced around Rhodes's body. With all six gems united in the glove, it unleashed a formidable energy.

This allowed Rhodes to access his powers more effortlessly, making him feel very comfortable.

Recognizing Rhodes, Thanos exclaimed, "Rhodes? You..."

Originally, Thanos intended to use the Infinity Gauntlet's power to engage in battle with Rhodes and eliminate him. However, no matter how he summoned the Infinity Gauntlet, it remained in Rhodes's possession and didn't respond to his calls.

This agitated Thanos.

Observing Thanos's ardent desire for the Infinity Gauntlet, Rhodes removed it from his hand and presented it before Thanos.

"It appears that you truly desire this Infinity Gauntlet."

Only then did Thanos realize this was a game orchestrated by Rhodes. His motives were clear: to use Thanos to obtain the final missing gem for the Infinity Gauntlet, the Soul Gem.

Rhodes even went so far as to toss the Infinity Gauntlet to Thanos.

"If you desire it so much, allow me to lend it to you for a while."

Thanos was left in bewilderment. Was Rhodes going mad? He had just returned the Infinity Gauntlet he acquired.

Nonetheless, Thanos didn't hold back. Upon donning the Infinity Gauntlet, he raised his fist to utilize the combined power of the six Infinity Gems, hoping to overcome Rhodes.

However, when he swung his fist, nothing happened. Thanos's enormous fist cut through the air, but Rhodes remained unchanged.

Thanos gawked at the Infinity Gauntlet in his hand with disbelief. The power of the six Infinity Gems was undoubtedly present, yet it seemed impossible to harness their power.

Rhodes had played a trick, leaving Thanos utterly bewildered.

Rhodes clarified, "That's not how the Infinity Gauntlet works."

Extending his arm forward, Rhodes sensed the Infinity Gauntlet on Thanos's right hand struggle like a caged bird. It broke apart and flew towards Rhodes, despite Thanos's attempts to block it, resulting in an electrifying sensation from the Infinity Gem's power.

Thanos let out a pained cry.

"Argh."

The Infinity Gauntlet returned to Rhodes's hand.

With a grin, Rhodes said, "Don't say I didn't give you a chance. You simply didn't value it enough."

Rhodes had the capacity to defeat Thanos, yet he chose not to. He was playing a game with Thanos.

This left Thanos in a fit of rage. He had never been so openly mocked, and he took it seriously.

Thanos's anger spiraled.

At this moment, Thanos charged recklessly toward Rhodes. Despite knowing that Rhodes had orchestrated it all and recognizing he was no match for Rhodes, Thanos still attempted to attack.

Rhodes extended his right hand wearing the Infinity Gauntlet.

Rhodes aimed to finish off Thanos, ensuring he met his demise beneath the very gauntlet he had desired to use for destruction.

Right when it seemed that Thanos would meet his end, an unexpected occurrence transpired. From a ruptured space, a slender hand reached out and intercepted Rhodes's colorful energy, redirecting it. Thanos, previously targeted, was dragged into another dimension.

Rhodes was taken aback.

He never expected someone to come to Thanos's rescue. It was a goddess, one of the five creators, the Goddess of Death.

She saved Thanos at the last moment, pulling him into another space.

Rhodes did not pursue the matter further. He was aware that the Goddess of Death possessed immense power.

Just how formidable her strength was remained a mystery to Rhodes. However, as one of the five creation deities, she had the power of at least one universe at her disposal, which could become even more substantial.

Rhodes refrained from confronting such an opponent. Engaging an entity of the Goddess of Death's caliber could lead to the destruction of countless single universes or even multiverses, possibly involving Asgard and the Nine Realms.

Rhodes simply watched the Goddess of Death.

The Goddess of Death, known to have various faces, including a horrific skull-like visage and an enticing one that captivated all beings, presented a youthful appearance this time.

Rhodes couldn't help but admit that the Goddess of Death, in her youthful form, was exceptionally beautiful, even by Asgard's lofty standards. In fact, she surpassed many divine beauties among the Asgardians.

At that moment, the Goddess of Death seemed to sense Rhodes's gaze. She smiled slightly in his direction.

Rhodes acknowledged her with a nod, returning the smile. Then he vanished from the Vormir planet's altar.

At this point, Thanos, who had been saved by the Goddess of Death, was left trembling. Had she not intervened, Thanos might have met his end.

The Goddess of Death noted, "He's an interesting individual."

Thanos inquired, "What about Rhodes?"

"Gone."

With relief, Thanos realized that Rhodes had left. His life had been spared, at least for now.

However, he pressed on, "Death, the Infinity Gauntlet is still in Rhodes's possession. Help me retrieve it."

The Goddess of Death shot Thanos an irritated glance.

Rhodes had contemplated this, and it seemed the Goddess of Death held a similar perspective as Rhodes.

The Goddess of Death responded, "I'm not even certain I could defeat Rhodes. My rescue of you was opportunistic, catching him off guard. If he had been vigilant, you might not have returned. Do you still wish to battle him while he's wearing the Infinity Gauntlet?"

"Forget about reclaiming the Infinity Gauntlet. You won't be able to retrieve it."

Hearing her words, Thanos pondered the situation. How formidable was Rhodes's current strength?

He reluctantly admitted, "If I can't recover the Infinity Gauntlet, I'm left with no alternatives. I won't be able to sacrifice half of the universe's life to you in the future. My plan can't be realized."

Thanos's plan was to offer half of the universe's population to the Goddess of Death, using the lives of the deceased to please her and maintain the balance of the universe's resources. Yet, with the Infinity Gauntlet inaccessible, Thanos had no recourse.

After some contemplation, the Goddess of Death proposed an alternative solution.

"In fact, there is another way."

"Is there a solution?"

Thanos perked up, hoping this method would allow him to challenge Rhodes.

The Goddess of Death explained, "Obtain the Heart of the Universe. With it, you can confront Rhodes."

While the acquisition of the Heart of the Universe wasn't straightforward, it offered a chance to challenge Rhodes. Thanos found renewed hope.

Rhodes had an idea, and the Goddess of Death shared it. They had to endure for now and focus on acquiring the Heart of the Universe.

Rhodes had used Thanos to obtain the complete Infinity Gauntlet, and he had returned to Asgard.

Since the Goddess of Death hadn't engaged him directly and had only saved Thanos, it was clear that she had no intention of confronting Rhodes either.

.......

Goodbye Eren Yeager, you'll live on in my memory 😢😢😥😥
