Before Gamora could utter a word, the man in the black cloak spoke first.
"Son of Thanos, i welcome your arrival."
Gamora was taken aback that the stranger knew her identity. She cautiously rested her hand on the laser gun holstered at her waist, eyeing him vigilantly.
"Who in the world are you? And how do you know who I am?"
The man in the black cloak chuckled.
"I am essentially a non-existent being, but you may refer to me as the Red Skull."
With that, he removed his hat, revealing a ghastly, flushed, skull-like face, with only eyes remaining, while his nose had vanished.
Gamora was visibly surprised by his appearance.
"Why are you here?"
Red Skull continued to chuckle.
"I am nothing but a cursed soul."
"Do you know the location of the Soul Gem?"
Gamora inquired.
"Of course, I do. Are you here to obtain it? Then come with me.
Gamora followed Red Skull as they ascended the mountain towards an altar at its summit.
Red Skull spoke as they walked.
"You've come here in search of the Soul Gem. In my previous life, I too sought these gems. I even once held one in my grasp. However, it rejected me and banished me to this place, where others come seeking it. We, including myself, shall never possess them."
"It's ironic, to say the least."
Gamora was perplexed by Red Skull's words, not entirely comprehending them. Her primary concern was to obtain the Soul Gem before Thanos arrived and hide it or destroy it to thwart Thanos's plan of collecting all the Infinity Gems.
Red Skull guided Gamora to a vast altar at the mountain's peak.
"Here, you must meet a condition to obtain the Soul Gem. Sacrifice the person you love most on this altar, push them off the cliff, and the Soul Gem shall be yours."
Gamora regarded Red Skull's words with skepticism, brandishing her dagger.
"Enough of your nonsense. Hand over the Soul Gem, or I'll end you."
Red Skull remained unfazed by her threats.
"In this place, you can't harm me. Actually, no one, regardless of their existence in this universe, can obtain the Soul Gem without fulfilling the condition, trading an equivalent soul for it."
Gamora looked incredulous at Red Skull's statement.
The concept seemed implausible to her.
"Is that even possible?"
She realized that Thanos might have deceived her, sending her on this quest for a Soul Gem under false pretenses.
At that moment, Thanos suddenly appeared behind Gamora.
He grasped Gamora's neck, catching her off guard. Gamora attempted to strike Thanos with her dagger, but her strength was no match for his. He easily disarmed her, knocking the dagger to the ground.
Thanos looked calmly at Gamora.
Her reaction was one of shock and anger.
"You deceived me? You deceitful liar!"
"You, you used me for your malevolent purposes, to mold me into a weapon. Your plan will fail."
"You love no one but yourself. I will never forget how you invaded my homeworld and slaughtered my people. You will pay, Thanos."
Thanos admitted to her.
"My daughter, I know you harbor immense hatred toward me, but I never wished harm upon you. You are indeed the person I love the most."
"Rubbish, it's impossible."
Thanos reached out and brushed aside Gamora's hair, only to have his hand slapped away.
"Get away from me, do not touch me with your murderous, tainted hands."
Gamora pushed Thanos away, leaving him with a mixture of emotions.
"I apologize, my daughter, but sacrifices are often made to achieve great goals."
Gamora was bewildered by Thanos's words.
"What did you say?"
While Gamora looked on in astonishment, Thanos approached the cliff's edge. The vertical drop was surrounded by an abyss with no end in sight.
"Forgive me, my daughter."
Thanos released his grip, and Gamora plummeted into the abyss.
There was no sound of impact.
Amidst the darkness and tempestuous thunderstorms on Vormir, Thanos's face displayed a blend of tears and sorrow.
Minutes turned into hours as Thanos remained on the altar, trying to locate his missing Infinity Gauntlet.
Eventually, the Red Skull, accustomed to this waiting, approached him.
"The transaction is complete. This is the Soul Gem."
The Red Skull held the gem, emitting a subtle light, in his hand.
Thanos, once again, took the Soul Gem and installed it into the Infinity Gauntlet.
With the final Infinity Stone in place, an enormous surge of power flowed through Thanos as his body absorbed the tremendous force. This left him in agony and jubilation simultaneously.
After overcoming the initial shock, Thanos laughed wildly.
This unimaginable power granted by the Infinity Gauntlet brought him an unparalleled sense of joy.
"Ah..."
Eventually, he adapted to this newfound strength.
He prepared to snap his fingers with the Infinity Gauntlet when, suddenly, a spatial portal opened on the Vormir altar.
The Infinity Gauntlet disintegrated into pieces, aligning itself, and traveled through the portal.
Snapped...
Thanos snapped his fingers, but it was just a mere snap, as the Infinity Gauntlet had vanished.
This abrupt turn of events left Thanos stunned.
Frantically, he searched for the Infinity Gauntlet but couldn't locate it. His frustration was palpable.
A figure emerged through a spatial door, carrying the fully assembled Infinity Gauntlet—Rhodes.
Rhodes had a few modifications made to the Infinity Gauntlet with the assistance of the dwarven blacksmith Dori. The Gauntlet was disassembled into several parts that could be reassembled when needed, similar to Iron Man's suit, allowing for remote control and disassembly.
These modifications granted greater control over the Infinity Gauntlet, as it was not merely a receptacle for the Infinity Gems. Instead, with sufficient strength, one could wield its power more flexibly.
The sudden loss of the Infinity Gauntlet left Thanos disoriented and disheartened, as he struggled to understand the situation.
Rhodes decided to tease Thanos, donning the Infinity Gauntlet and demonstrating that he had taken control of the situation.
