On the Self-Cultivation of an Actor

At that time, Naruto also felt that the worst that could happen to him was isolation, alienation, and perhaps a slightly more difficult life. After all, he was the orphaned legacy of the Fourth Hokage, right? Even if Naruto's identity couldn't be revealed for certain reasons, there were definitely many high-ranking officials who knew about his background. There were plenty of Leaf Village ninja who had been cared for by the Fourth Hokage, and Naruto, being the son of the Fourth Hokage and currently the host of the Nine-Tails, was akin to being a designated nuclear weapon for some major nation in his past life. In any case, life should be manageable.

It shouldn't have descended into extreme misery, right?

However, Naruto was disappointed. Over the past five years, his life had far exceeded his expectations in every way.

In a village like Konoha, where even orphaned children from other villages could enjoy the warmth of a family as long as they were not suspected spies (at least on the surface), Naruto was subjected to inhumane treatment. He was despised, isolated, denied a normal and stable livelihood. Many times, Naruto had to go to the mountain forests on the eastern side of Konoha to pick wild vegetables and catch fish and shrimp from the streams just to barely fill his stomach. You could tell how difficult Naruto's life had been over the past five years.

Naruto couldn't help but wonder if the high-ranking leaders of Konoha had lost their minds.

Even if they didn't reveal Naruto's identity as the Fourth Hokage's legacy.

Even if they just considered Naruto as the host of the Nine-Tails.

Wasn't Konoha afraid that Naruto would hold a grudge and seek revenge against the village in the future with this treatment?

And let's be honest.

Setting those aside for a moment.

After experiencing such a childhood, Naruto couldn't fathom how the protagonist in the original story, after growing up, could repeatedly declare that he wanted to inherit the Will of Fire, become Hokage, protect everyone in Konoha, and have everyone recognize him. It was as if the heavens were playing a massive joke.

For any normal person with normal thinking, wouldn't that be too much to ask for?

At that moment, Naruto genuinely doubted if the protagonist in the original story had lost his mind.

There's no other way to put it.

Calling the protagonist naive would be an understatement.

Of course, in this life, Naruto didn't care whether the protagonist in the original story was a saint, a mother figure, or if he was influenced by Ashura's chakra inheritance, or maybe he was just manipulated by that damn old man, Danzo Shimura, who was controlling things from behind the scenes with the Izanagi and his exclusive Mangekyou Sharingan.

Naruto wouldn't foolishly say he wanted to gain the approval of others, become Hokage, or protect Konoha like the protagonist in the original story.

That, to Naruto, was a colossal joke.

Surviving!

And then seeking revenge!

That was what Naruto wanted to achieve the most.

Not just those outside the village, but even some people within the village were Naruto's targets.

However, Naruto was well aware that he couldn't show any of these intentions or emotions until he had real self-defense capabilities. Because once detected, Naruto believed that he wouldn't need the intervention of that malicious old man, Danzo, or even the Third Hokage himself. Even the seemingly gentle and benevolent Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, would not hesitate to eliminate Naruto for the sake of the greater good, for the overall benefit and peace of Konoha. In the eyes of the Third Hokage, the safety and well-being of Konoha were above all else, and nothing could compare or be traded for that.

So, Naruto knew very well that he had to learn to disguise himself. Perhaps he could advance some aspects of his progress a little faster, but in terms of personality, dreams, and thoughts, he should try to stay as close as possible to the original story.

Not to mention that the Third Hokage would occasionally "visit" and "care" for him.

Just the Hidden Leaf Village's ANBU members who were currently monitoring him discreetly.

Naruto was well aware that he must always maintain the self-discipline expected of an actor.

As for why Naruto could detect those ANBU members, it might also be a benefit of his reincarnation. Naruto had noticed from a young age that his perception was very strong, especially when it came to sensing malicious gazes. After he learned to refine chakra, this perception became even clearer. Including when the Third Hokage used the Crystal Ball Jutsu to observe him, Naruto would have a slight sensation, not very noticeable, but whenever he felt a slight discomfort deep within, Naruto knew that the Third Hokage was using the Crystal Ball Jutsu to watch him. This was true not only for the Third Hokage but also for the ANBU members monitoring him. Of course, due to Naruto's current weak abilities, his perception had a limited range and accuracy, but ANBU members didn't use very advanced concealment techniques when monitoring him. This was one of the reasons why Naruto could detect them.

Even if he discovered them, Naruto still had to act as if everything was normal.

He absolutely couldn't reveal any unusual signs or actions.

Only the stubborn Third Hokage could protect him until he grew up, and Naruto was well aware of that.

In the original story, it seemed that the Third Hokage withdrew the ANBU members monitoring Naruto only after Naruto officially became a ninja. This was partly because Kakashi became Naruto's mentor, but it was also because after twelve years of observation, the Third Hokage finally trusted Naruto. So, until Naruto became a ninja and had the power to protect himself, he had to maintain the lowest profile.

As for the path ahead, Naruto already had a clear plan.

It was just a matter of executing it when the time was right. For now, he thought, "Let's take it one step at a time and build a solid foundation."

After finishing lunch, Naruto briefly tidied up and pushed open the door of his house. He walked along the roadside path once again, heading towards the eastern forest of the village. In the past two or three years, Naruto had been picking wild vegetables and catching fish and shrimp there. Due to the presence of fierce wild animals, ordinary villagers rarely ventured near that area.

Naruto, as someone who had been aware of the ANBU surveillance from an early age, didn't need to worry about these things.
