Chapitre 6: Chapter 6

After getting her wand back, Jamie thanked the witch and set off for the international portkey station. Portkeys were the go-to option for long-distance travel for every wizard in the magical world.

She found herself in a large room filled with wizards and witches, each waiting for their turn to use the portkey. Jamie joined the queue with her trunk floating beside her.

Finally, it was her turn. Jamie walked up to the counter and purchased a portkey to Afghanistan, which ended up costing around three dragots. Standing in the section designated for portkey travel, the portkey—a small golden key—began to vibrate in her hand. There was a jerk behind her navel and she felt herself being pulled away; everything around her turned into a blur.

In no time at all, Jamie landed on the ground with a thud. She wrestled to regain her balance and then took a step onto the ground, which was coated in a layer of sand. Looking at her surroundings, Jamie realized she was standing in front of what seemed to be Afghanistan's version of the Ministry of Magic.

"Oh, welcome welcome! It's been a year since we've had a visitor!" A wizard, donning a flashy red robe and boasting a full beard, approached Jamie with a warm smile. "You must be new around here. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Malik, the local wizarding guide. Are you here on official business? We rarely receive visitors, especially those arriving through portkeys."

Jamie blinked in surprise at Malik's question. "Oh, um, no. I'm here for something else."

"Do you need a tour guide then? It's just two galleons for a full day tour." Malik offered eagerly, but then realized Jamie had already walked away. Seeing that Jamie wasn't interested, the Middle Eastern shrugged, and headed over to the bar across the street.

Jamie furrowed her brow as she took in the mass of people moving along the streets. She had just landed in Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan, and the Ministry's control here was practically nil. The place was packed with muggles, meaning she couldn't simply take off flying without causing a scene.

Muttering a curse under her breath, Jamie walked up to the sideroad and hailed a taxi. She handed the driver a hundred US dollars, and requested to be taken to the city outskirts.

The taxi driver, a fresh-faced teenager just hitting adulthood, paused. He glanced at Jamie and mumbled in a mix of jumbled English, "Uh, lady, not safe by yourself, you know?"

Jamie nodded and replied, "Yes, just drive."

Seeing Jamie's determination, the driver reluctantly accepted the money and began to drive. The taxi slowly made its way through the bustling streets of Kabul, with Jamie gazing out the window, taking in the sights and sounds of the city.

As they ventured further from the city center, the landscape began to change. Tall buildings gave way to smaller houses and open fields, and the chaotic traffic gradually thinned out. The driver navigated the winding roads with skill, occasionally exchanging a few words with Jamie about the local landmarks and customs.

Eventually, the car arrived at the outskirts of Kabul, and the driver told Jamie this was as far as he could go.

"Forward, too dangerous, many people shooting." Jamie acknowledged the driver's warning with a nod and handed him another hundred dollars before stepping out of the car.

The driver felt worried as he watched Jamie walking alone up ahead. He put the money in his pocket, and when he looked back up, he realized the girl was no longer there. A chilling sensation ran down his spine, and without wasting a second, he started the car and sped away from there.

Inside the woods, Jamie crouched down, opened her suitcase, and searched for something. She retrieved a blanket, placed it on the ground in front of her, and watched as it floated at knee level. Then, she took out a crystal ball, examined it closely, and climbed onto the flying carpet.

"Take us there, Koby."

"Certainly, Mistress!" Koby replied, appearing in front of her. He skillfully maneuvered the flying carpet, making it ascend into the sky.

The wind rushed through Jamie's hair as they soared above the rugged terrain of Afghanistan. Sitting comfortably on the carpet, she couldn't help but ponder why flying carpets were banned in England. After all, they were far more comfortable than broomsticks. The sun shone brightly in the sky, but Jamie's clothing had temperature-adjusting charms, ensuring she wouldn't feel hot in the scorching sun.

Three hours went by, Jamie finally received feedback from her crystal ball. "Koby, find us a hidden place to land."

Koby acknowledged Jamie's request and began scanning the surroundings for a suitable spot. As they flew over the rugged landscape, they spotted a secluded oasis nestled amidst the desert, surrounded by palm trees and a shimmering pool of water.

Descending towards the oasis, Koby gently landed the flying carpet on the soft sand. Jamie stepped off the carpet and stretched her legs, feeling relieved to have a moment of respite. She walked towards the pool and dipped her hand into the cool water, refreshing herself from the long journey.

Taking out her crystal ball, Jamie cast a spell on it and noticed the place where Tony Stark was being held captive. The crystal ball revealed a vision of a hidden cave tucked away in the mountains. Dozens of people equipped with weapons were guarding the entrance. It was clear that reaching Tony Stark wouldn't be an easy task.

"Let's take a rest first. We can come up with a plan afterwards." Jamie said.

Koby, ever dutiful, reached for Jamie's trunk and removed the tent they received this morning. With just a simple touch, the tent sprang to life, assembling itself in a matter of seconds.

Exiting the pool, Jamie's expression turned into a frown as she observed the tent's design. It seemed a bit too eye-catching for her liking. When she stepped inside, she was left speechless by the lavish decor—gleaming chandeliers, plush furniture, and colorful tapestries adorned the interior. It looked more like a luxurious palace than a discreet hiding place.

Jamie sighed and shook her head. "Not exactly what I had in mind, but I guess we'll have to make do."
