Russell made some slight modifications to the story of how he helped Peter gain his spider powers.
He had to make some adjustments.
Gwen trusted him, but she wasn't naive. Without a reasonable explanation, it would be hard to justify why he had chosen to use a radioactive spider to activate Peter's spider powers.
As one of the few people who knew he was a space-time traveler, only Diana and his mentor, the Ancient One, knew about his true origin. He couldn't just tell Gwen that Peter was the real Spider-Man, and she was just a female version created because Spider-Man was so famous.
If he said that, Gwen would probably think he was crazy.
"I've heard of Oscorp Corporation's cross-species genetic technology, and I've met the project's director, Dr. Connors."
"I submitted an internship application to Oscorp Corporation just last month."
Gwen looked at Russell and said slowly.
Although she had an instinct that Russell's involvement in helping Peter gain his spider powers wasn't as simple as he claimed, she didn't plan to delve deeper into it.
After all, what difference did it make if there was another Spider-Man? In fact, Gwen was growing somewhat weary of these hero activities that aimed at punishing evil and promoting good.
Or rather, she was becoming disappointed.
On the surface, having superheroes had led to more assistance for the citizens of New York, and the crime rate had decreased slightly. However, this was merely addressing the symptoms and not the root cause.
No matter how many times superheroes saved people or how many criminals they apprehended, as long as the fundamental system of the United States remained unchanged, new criminals would continue to emerge like weeds, impossible to eradicate completely.
After several years of being a superhero, Gwen had come to realize this.
"Well, since you already have a plan for him, I'll go along with it."
Gwen said seriously.
Russell was about to nod in response when Gwen's voice chimed in again. "Just to be clear, you can't intentionally arrange for me to work together with him. I don't like working with kids."
Hearing Gwen's words, Russell couldn't help but smile.
Although Peter was only four or five years younger than Gwen, when she spoke about him, he sounded like a mischievous little boy.
"Um... Peter isn't as bad as you imagine. He's a decent young guy, and if you spend more time with him, you'll see his strengths."
Russell began to defend Peter's image.
"But anyway, I don't want to work with kids."
"If you insist on arranging me to work with others, I'd rather work with the Hulk."
Gwen continued.
"Don't worry; unless you request it, I won't force you to work with others."
Russell had lost interest in everyday hero activities. Unless there was a major event that captured the world's attention, he didn't bother organizing group missions for the members of the Justice League.
After hearing Russell's response, Gwen finally dropped the subject.
They chatted about some topics that couples usually discussed in the living room. Then, Russell picked Gwen up and carried her toward Gwen's bedroom.
Although he had just played Flight Chess with Ellie, his blonde secretary, in the morning, as a normal man, and one with plenty of free time at that, it wasn't unusual to play several rounds of Flight Chess in a day.
More importantly, playing Flight Chess was no burden for Russell.
Unless it was a game of Flight Chess with Diana or Kara, he wasn't concerned.
Once they arrived in the bedroom, Russell didn't waste any time. He started untying his tie.
Staying in the decadent capitalist country for too long would indeed lead to more decadence. The environment had a significant impact on people.
After silently complaining about the decadent capitalist lifestyle, Russell instructed No. 3 to customize several sets of Spider-Woman costumes for Gwen. The one she had worn earlier was already torn.
When they returned to the living room, Hulk and Peter had finally finished their training for the day and joined them.
Upon seeing Gwen in casual clothes, Peter hesitated for a moment, not immediately recognizing her.
"Peter, this is Gwen, also known as Spider-Woman."
Russell introduced Gwen to Peter.
After hearing his words, Peter finally reacted, nodding quickly.
Before he could say anything, Russell continued, "Gwen's identity as Spider-Woman is a secret, so don't tell anyone, including May and Ned. If you meet her outside the headquarters, pretend you don't know her, understand?"
Although Peter didn't understand why Gwen needed to hide her true identity, he took Russell's warning seriously.
