Chapitre 88: Round One
On Festival Island, a hub of celebration and revelry, neither Whitebeard nor the Marines were aware of the looming presence of Big Mom and the Revolutionary Army. Even if they were, they wouldn't have had the luxury of time to address it. As the horn of battle sounded, the clash between the two sides had already commenced.
Vice Admiral Onigumo, with a fiery determination in his eyes, charged towards Marco, bellowing, "Last time I let you escape, but this time I'll send you straight to Impel Down!"
Marco, the 'Phoenix,' stood his ground, unflinching. "Let's see if you have the strength to back up your words!"
Jinbei, the 'Knight of the Sea,' joined the fray, his powerful palm strikes keeping the Vice Admirals at bay. "We must protect Pops and ensure he's not interrupted in his battle!"
Crocodile, with a cigar dangling from his mouth, conjured a sandstorm to aid his allies. "I may not be a member of the Whitebeard Pirates, but I can't stand by when they're in danger!"
Luffy, the up-and-coming Supernova, also leapt into the fight, but was swiftly reprimanded by Vice Admiral Momonga. "This isn't a battle for you, Luffy! Return to the ship!"
Ace, Luffy's adoptive brother, stepped in, catching him and pulling him back. "You're not ready for this, Luffy. Gramps Whitebeard taught you Haki, but that doesn't mean you're invincible!"
Luffy, however, refused to back down. "I won't leave Gramps Whitebeard in trouble! He's been teaching me, and I won't betray his trust!"
Ace sighed in exasperation. "Fine, but stay close. I'll protect you as best I can."
Vista, one of the Whitebeard Pirates' division commanders, reassured Ace, "Don't worry, we'll watch out for him."
The Whitebeard Pirates were a formidable force, boasting members like Marco, Ace, Jozu, Vista, Jinbei, Crocodile, and others. However, the Marines had their own elite fighters, including Vice Admirals like Tsuru, Momonga, Onigumo, Doberman, Comil, and others.
The battle raged on, with both sides showcasing their strength. Aokiji, the 'Ice Man,' appeared, ready to test the Whitebeard Pirates. He had been hinted by Sengoku to surpass Akainu in this live broadcast battle, a challenge he was eager to meet.
Sengoku stood firm against the pressure from the Five Gorosei and made the bold move to promote himself to the position of Fleet Admiral.
It wasn't that he craved the title of Fleet Admiral, but rather, he couldn't stomach the thought of Akainu taking the helm. Akainu's extremism, especially exacerbated by his grudge against pirates after his clash with Whitebeard, spelled potential disaster. Sengoku couldn't bear to see more tragedies like Ohara unfold under Akainu's reign.
"I may have failed to prevent Ohara, but as a champion of justice, I cannot idly witness further atrocities," Sengoku declared coldly as he advanced towards Whitebeard. "Your adversary is me!"
Before Aokiji could intervene, his path was obstructed by none other than Bullet. Despite his defeat by Whitebeard, Bullet remained unscathed, having concealed himself within the colossal giant's body. Dealing with an Admiral posed no challenge to him.
"Douglas Bullet, Devil Heir," Aokiji muttered, his expression betraying a hint of unease. Even as an Admiral, facing someone of Bullet's caliber was no trivial matter.
"We might have to focus on Whitebeard for now," Kizaru remarked casually, his tone belying the gravity of the situation. In a flash of golden light, he materialized behind Whitebeard, wielding his golden lightsaber, Ama no Murakumo.
But Whitebeard's reflexes proved quicker than anticipated as he deflected Kizaru's attack with his Naginata, Murakumogiri, sending shockwaves rippling through the air and shattering the ground beneath them.
Recognizing the danger, Kizaru swiftly retreated to Whitebeard's side. "You're quite formidable for a septuagenarian. Your strength belies your age," he admitted, a tinge of admiration in his voice.
Whitebeard chuckled heartily. "Scared, Kizaru kid?"
"Of course, you're the strongest man alive," Kizaru replied, his tone laced with a mixture of respect and amusement.
Despite the tense exchange, Kizaru's actions betrayed no hint of fear.
With Ama no Murakumo vigorously shaking in his hands, Whitebeard unleashed a barrage of fierce attacks.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The air resonated with the sounds of sword clashes as the two combatants moved at incredible speeds, rendering their movements nearly invisible to the naked eye.
"Your swordsmanship is amazing!" Kizaru couldn't help but exclaim.
"Guurarara~" Whitebeard chuckled. "Kizaru, boy, the Naginata in my hand is Murakumogiri!"
Whitebeard's Naginata sliced through the air, creating a sharp glint. Beyond his renowned Haki and usual abilities, Whitebeard showcased exceptional swordsmanship. Murakumogiri, one of the twelve Supreme Grade swords, wasn't merely an ornament in his hands.
The blade aimed straight for Kizaru's head, prompting the admiral to react swiftly.
"It's scary~" Kizaru's eyes narrowed. His long sword vanished, and he leaped into the air.
"Yasakani no Magatama!" Kizaru exclaimed, squeezing his hands together in front of his shoulder. Golden balls of light materialized, raining down like bullets.
However, Akainu, who hadn't attacked yet, felt something amiss witnessing Kizaru's signature move. The attack seemed peculiarly weak.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The balls of light pounded the ground, shattering it into fragments. Dust and stone chips filled the air.
Amidst the chaos, a sharp sound cut through the dust. Whitebeard's figure soared into the sky.
BOOM!
His powerful fist descended, unleashing a devastating shockwave that struck Kizaru. Momentarily stunned, Kizaru failed to react in time, and the impact sent him flying, crashing to the ground.
Boom!
The ground cracked upon impact, shrouding the area in smoke. When the haze cleared, Kizaru knelt on the ground, blood flowing from the corners of his mouth.
In just a few minutes, Whitebeard had managed to injure an Admiral. Shock rippled through the Vice Admirals, Whitebeard's crew, and even Admirals Aokiji and Akainu.
The perplexity lingered as they struggled to comprehend how Kizaru, famed for his speed and evasive maneuvers, had succumbed so easily to Whitebeard's might.
