Chapter 21: Jorren's Arrival
Flicker- Flicker-
The flicker of flames from a small torch that remained hanging on the wall, made the room illuminated. The wall made from burnt and baked bricks had a few steel couplings attached to them from which emerged black polished chains that held Noah and Daniel in place.
Their hands and legs were tied with the same chains.
Three women namely, Lara, Cathy and Era, sat on chairs in the small room. As for the two men – Gin and Noyer, Gin sat on the long bed while Noyer remained standing, his gaze fixated on the ground.
"This is ridiculous Noy, how could you be so careless? Letting these two inside without even verifying their identity.", Cathy raised her voice, a calm and gentle expression on her face yet her voice spoke volumes!
"K-kha, forgive me-"
"Stop, I don't want to hear your voice.", she added further.
Poor Noyer lowered his head and merely stared at the ground. Well, he did commit a mistake here.
"Father, what do you think we should do with them?", Lara asked as she looked at them.
"Let's wait for Master Jorren. We-", just as he spoke this, a young maid, her name Era who sat on a chair with her gaze fixated outside, noticed Jorren arrive.
Almost instantly she stood up, "Master Jorren!"
The voice startled the rest and so did her actions. But hearing what she said, they too immediately stood up.
It was Jorren, wearing a white priestly dress. He walked in as if he was the owner of the place, long strides.
The priestesses remained standing, admiring his handsomeness, as for him, he went straight towards Gin.
"Will you get up?", he asked, his voice deep and rude.
This shocked the priestesses.
"M-master Jorren?", Lara raised her voice, confused by what Jorren said.
The other ladies were also in a state of shock, questioning their ears.
Gin didn't say anything and stood up with a smile on his face. He took a step, almost stumbling, seeing which Lara rushed towards him and grabbed his hand, providing him support.
"Father…", she uttered.
Jorren right after this, took Gin's seat. He sat down, raising his right leg and placing over his left, sitting like a boss in the room.
"Master Jorren, what sort of behavior is this!?", Lara asked.
"It's fine Lara…", Gin uttered.
"No, it's not okay!"
"Is this how he is supposed to treat an elderly? Especially his master?", she was angry and displeased by Jorren's behaviour.
"You-"
But before Lara could continue, all of a sudden, her mouth closed shut. It was as if her lips were glued against each other.
"Mmh!", she tried her best to open her mouth, yet failed.
'I can't speak?'
Confused, she stared at Jorren.
Her hands trembled as she did that, for red pupils were present in his eyes.
'The devil's sign!?', Lara took a few steps back, Gin being pulled abruptly.
Lara had let go of Gin and had fallen on the ground due to shock. As for Cathy and Era, both of them stood still in shock and fear, puzzled by the scene unfolding in front of them.
'Why does he have devil's eyes?'
'Why-'
"Lara, I don't want you to tell me what to do.", Jorren said with a dominant and chilling voice.
Lara gulped down a large chunk of saliva as she remained on the ground, staring at Gin who was on his own now.
Clenching her fist and calming herself, she stood up, grabbing Gin's left hand again and acting as his support once more.
"My boy, don't hurt her. She was your caretaker, remember…", Gin's husky voice engulfed the place following which only silence prevailed.
Jorren, hearing that, lowered his gaze. He then stopped using his powers on Lara, who could now speak again.
"Ha…", she breathed heavily, for her lips no longer were confined.
But she knew it was better to not say anything triggering. Heck, even talking was forbidden, so she merely remained mum.
She thought it was best to move to a different room with Gin for Jorren didn't seem sane right now and he could do absolutely anything!
However, just as she had taken a step, Jorren's voice erupted in the room.
"How long are you going to pretend to be asleep, Master Wizard Noah?", the voice sounded a bit sultry and chilling.
With his gaze lifted only a bit from the ground, Jorren stared right at Noah as he called him out.
Noah, who was indeed pretending, opened his eyes right away, his intense and piercing gaze landing on Jorren.
"And the boy…", Jorren then checked upon Daniel.
"Aye, so he is the one who escaped the curse? Interesting…", he chuckled, shifting his gaze back to Noah.
"So, you were the one who broke the curse, is that right?", Jorren's eyes widened, his pupils constricting right after that.
"That's right. I broke it!", Noah's voice echoed in the room.
'No, that's a lie. I tried my level best and used all of my experience to break the curse…'
'But I failed. If I could break it, I could have saved others…', Noah secretly clenched his fist by the regret and anger within him.
'It was a miracle… a simple miracle that saved the lad.', Noah momentarily stared at Daniel's face and then looked at Jorren.
"Don't you feel even a tiny bit of remorse?"
"Remorse? Haha, why would I feel that?", Jorren asked, laughing aloud.
"Why? You demon! You killed hundreds!"
"Do you even realize that?", Noah shouted. His voice was heavy. Everyone who heard him could feel the rage behind the words.
"Pfft, I merely killed the sinners."
"Those who are afflicted with the Devil must be killed.", Jorren said nonchalantly.
Noah merely stared at Jorren with a spiteful gaze.
"They were no sinners. They were victims who were affected by the curse. They-"
"So you have a way to save them?", Jorren asked, interrupting Noah.
"What?"
"Do you have a way to save them?"
"Aren't you famous for having broken the curse? So you must know a way…", Jorren said hearing which, Noah merely lowered his head, his mouth shut for he didn't have even a single word to say.
Jorren then raised his left hand, the palm facing Noah right after which, the shawl which was tightly wrapped around Noah's arm started to move, and with a burst of force, it levitated and flew to Jorren's hand.
As the shawl left, it exposed Noah's arm which was affected by a different curse.
Cathy and Era closed both their mouths with surprise when they saw the wooden arm – it was like a dried up dead bark.
"Is that the price?", Jorren asked with a smirk sitting on his face.
"It doesn't seem that bad."
"I am sure they would have been ready to sacrifice an arm or a leg to be freed from curse…"
"Looks like you were not ready to teach them the method."
As Jorren's words reached Noah's ears, he merely stared at the ground – his eyeballs trembling. His face was now covered in sweat for he too knew, what Jorren was getting into.
"In conclusion, you were the one…"
"No…", Noah raised both his hands, grabbing his head tightly in regret and frustration.
"It was because of you that they died! If you had helped them, then they would have lived."
"No! That's not-"
"It is true! You are the one at fault. Hahaha!"
Jorren had but one aim – to weaken Noah mentally. He was known for torturing people before killing them – it was evident from the spell that he used often: The Blood Curse spell.
The curse would cause the person to bleed internally and externally – heck, even blood would ooze out of the pores. This would be accompanied by immense pain and while suffering the pain, the person would wish for death.
However, Jorren wouldn't kill them just because of that wish!
Rather, he would torment them further until they will have no life left in them and only after that, would he kill them.
Right now, he was at the first step, breaking Noah from the inside.
A devlish smile lingered inside Jorren. He was enjoying the situation.
"Pfft, you-"
Jorren was going to continue on the path of breaking Noah. He was going to make him suffer even more but before he could proceed, a loud roar thumped him, almost startling him.
"You Coward!", it was Daniel, his voice equivalent to a thunder erupted in the scene, almost giving a heart attack to the maidens.
Gin was startled. The same was true for Noah who ceased his cry, his gaze turned towards Daniel who just woke up.
"You devil-born scum, how dare you treat lives like a toy!?", Daniel asked further, almost as if touching Jorren's sour spot for he had an ugly expression sitting on his face.
Jorren, gritting his teeth, slowly turned his gaze towards Daniel.
"Boy, be patient. Your turn will soon come.", Jorren said, his fist clenched as his gaze sharpened. Daniel felt daggers were raining down from his eyes.
But he did not care.
He turned to Noah and said, "It wasn't your fault sir."
"By-"
Noah had briefly raised his head when he heard that. He was going to regain his composure, but Jorren didn't let Daniel do the talking.
A red haze got summoned out of nowhere right around Daniel's mouth, tightly gripping him, preventing him from speaking anything else.
"Shut your damned mouth, boy."
"Don't test my patience.", Jorren's voice, being the same dominant and deep, caused chills to run down Daniel's spines.
But it was not enough to hold him back.
Clenching his fist and trying to use his powers, he tried to break free from the grip.
Jorren felt the little resistance which became the reason for a small chuckle.
"I warned you.", saying this, Jorren raised his wand and pointed at Daniel.
'He is using the same curse again… what should I do master?', Daniel tried to ask the Devil.
Unfortunately, no voice answered him back.
'Master?'
"Bredigo Bulvago!"
Zoom!
'Mas-'
Cough!
Daniel coughed as a result of the grip around his mouth having vanished. But that was not all, a weird feeling surged his body, a chilling which followed by intense burning of his inside.
"Argh!", he screamed, his eyes widened from which dripped blood and the same symptoms and effects as earlier, followed by.
"Daniel…", Noah's attention shifted to Daniel, who screamed in pain.
All the maiden gasped at the spell and its effects as a puddle of blood started to form right in front of them.
"Aye, Master Noah, why don't you display your praiseworthy performance again?"
"What?", Noah was not in the right mind, for he could barely comprehend anything in the situation, failing to even think of what to do next.
"Save him.", Jorren's laughter faded, replacing which was a stern and serious face.
