Chapitre 20: Stand as close to her as I want

Suzy was shocked to learn when a call came from the police station. She asked Daniel to drive the car to the station when he asked for the reason.

"Chris has been taken to the police station," Suzy revealed, her fingers searching for the lawyer's contact information.

"Why should you care about that? Call his family. They will handle it," Daniel suggested firmly, declining Suzy's request to go to the police station.

"Daniel, it's urgent. Chris called me and I must go there. He's just a 21-year-old brat, who has a nasty temper and attitude. Please do what I say," Suzy urged him.

Daniel made a contemplative sound as Suzy managed to locate her lawyer's number. After dialing, she urgently requested the lawyer's presence at the station along with the necessary bail documents.

Once the call ended, Suzy sighed, placing her fingertips on her temple. "He got himself into a physical fight," she divulged.

"What do you expect from a man like him?" Daniel remarked as he chuckled. "I don't understand you. He insulted you, Suzy. I know he did say something wrong to you. Yet here you are, acting like a model of compassion, ready to help him," he taunted Suzy.

"Daniel, I took a huge investment from the Onetti Group. A deal I've signed with the chairman of the Onetti Group, Grandpa Arthur. To change his grandson to a better person. I hope you now understand my actions," Suzy asserted.

"I knew it. You are doing all this because of the way Arthur Onetti backed our company," Daniel affirmed.

"Promise me you'll never speak about this in front of Chris," Suzy said earnestly.

"Why? That jerk needs to realize how his grandfather arranged for you to mentor him," Daniel's anger escalated further.

"Daniel, please," Suzy urged. "I'll make Chris pay for what he did to your sister. Also, you needn't worry about me. He will never harm me," she stated, showing a bit of trust in Chris.

"I want you to let him stay in the bars for a day. He must know what he did was wrong. Why did you ask the lawyer to prepare for his bail? He isn't worthy of it," Daniel proclaimed.

"I can't take that approach. He's not only an heir to the Onetti Group but also my husband now. If news of this gets out, it could have repercussions for Star Corporation. Trust me, I have a plan for addressing this and disciplining him appropriately," Suzy asserted.

Daniel no longer contested her decision. Shortly thereafter, they arrived at the police station. Upon entering, the sound of Nikolas's raised voice caught Suzy's attention. However, when she spotted Nikolas seated beside Chris in a chair, her eyes widened in surprise, pondering how the two got involved in a fight.

The Sheriff was asking Nikolas to lower his voice at the station while Chris was resting unfazed on the chair.

Suzy walked toward Chris and greeted the sheriff, bringing attention to Chris at her while Nikolas stopped speaking.

"I'm here to inquire about the charges against Chris. I'm his wife," Suzy stated, directing her words to the sheriff.

Meanwhile, Daniel took out his phone and dialed the lawyer's number, inquiring about his whereabouts.

As Suzy stood before Chris, Nikolas began to speak, "Your husband stormed into my office and physically assaulted me multiple times." Suzy didn't fix her gaze on Nikolas; instead, her eyes were fixed on Chris, who displayed an enigmatic expression on his face.

"Mrs. Onetti, the charge against Mr. Chris Onetti is assault. He's accused of attempting to cause harm to Mr. Nikolas Kostakis. Several employees, including the secretary, overheard Mr. Chris making threats against him," the sheriff elucidated the situation. This set the stage for a potential legal consequence for Chris if Nikolas chose not to retract the charges.

"May I have a moment to speak with my husband?" Suzy asked the sheriff.

"Of course," the sheriff agreed, showing some leniency considering the family's influence.

Chris got up from the chair and moved a short distance away from the sheriff's desk, joining Suzy.

"Why don't you enlighten me about your visit to Nikolas's office and why you ended up physically confronting him?" Suzy inquired, her arms crossed and a frown etched on her face.

"I've always wanted to do it," Chris admitted.

"Seriously?" Suzy narrowed her eyes in suspicion.

"Yes," Chris responded, averting his gaze.

"Don't try to deceive me, Chris. Be honest if you want me to help get you out of this situation. Are you willing to let this matter reach Grandpa's attention?" Suzy's demeanor turned slightly intimidating as she confronted him.

"I told you already. That bastard deserved to be killed," Chris retorted, his jaw visibly tense. He turned away and returned to his seat, refraining from revealing the entire truth to Suzy.

"Nikolas, may I speak with you privately?" Suzy approached Nikolas, her voice seeking his attention.

"Don't talk to him!" Chris said, causing Suzy to arch her brow at him.

Nikolas agreed to the private conversation. "Withdraw your charges," Suzy requested straightforwardly.

"Hell, no!" Nikolas vehemently rejected the idea.

"Well, if you refuse, then I guess I'll have to inform your wife about what you propositioned me. She has more faith in me than you, considering we were classmates for ten years," Suzy responded.

Nikolas shot her an amused look. "She won't believe you," he muttered under his breath.

"Oh, she will! Don't push me to take that step, Nikolas," Suzy declared firmly, using her leverage to convince him to drop the charges. She understood that the lawyer might not be able to assist due to the severity of the assault charges against Chris, so she resorted to this method to pressure Nikolas.

"You truly are impressive unlike your dumb husband," Nikolas chuckled and pivoted on the heels of his polished shoes. Meanwhile, Suzy's lawyer had arrived at the station, engaging in a conversation with Nikolas's legal representative.

Nikolas approached the sheriff's desk and informed him of his decision to withdraw the charges.

Confusion marked the expressions of everyone present, Chris included. His curiosity was piqued as he pondered what Suzy had said to Nikolas that prompted him to retract the filed complaint.

The sheriff nodded in agreement, instructing Nikolas to sign the necessary documents. Afterward, he directed Chris to do the same. With the case officially dismissed, Nikolas departed the scene with his lawyer and secretary.

Chris trailed behind Suzy, Daniel, and the lawyer. Once they reached the car, he couldn't contain his curiosity and inquired from Suzy about what she had said to Nikolas which led him to withdraw the complaint.

"Does it really matter? Just get in the car," Suzy responded sternly, brushing off his question.

Chris closed the gap between Suzy and himself. "It does matter, Suzy," he insisted. However, Daniel wasn't comfortable with Chris's intense look at Suzy, and he intervened, gently pushing Chris away.

"Respect her personal space," Daniel asserted.

"She's my wife. I'll stand as close to her as I want," Chris maintained, gripping Suzy's hand. "You're coming with me," he declared, pulling Suzy along with him.
