She quickly placed her hands over her ears, covering them, not wanting to hear any more of their lies. She did not want to believe a word they said.
She was just drunk. She was only hearing things.
But the words kept repeating inside her already woozy brain, making her more confused, dizzy, and frantic.
"Tessa." She repeated in her head. She had heard that name countless times before.
She knew that Tessa was Dale's ex. But he refused to talk much about her, saying that Tessa was the past while she was the present and his future.
Of course, she believed him. She loved him.
But now, she wondered what went on in the past between Dale and his ex. And what kind of future was she going to be to him?
"No, he loves me." She refused to believe that he was only using her. But then again, there were telltale signs. Bits and pieces of things that did not add up.
Suddenly, she could not help but think if marrying him tomorrow was the right thing to do. She knew she loved him, but did he truly love her?
"I... need..." She just knew she had to get out of there as she slurred her words and stumbled out of the bathroom.
She did not care who she bumped into or stepped on. All she cared about was finding her room and locking herself inside.
She did not want to see anyone she knew, not her family and friends, especially Dale and his family. She just wanted to be left alone.
She wanted to clear her head and think.
Nonetheless, that was not her luck as she bumped into someone. This time, she almost fell on the floor as she lost all her balance.
But by some dumb luck, she stayed afloat. Something kept her standing until she felt strong arms around her waist, supporting her weight.
Was she lucky or unlucky? She could not tell anymore. At that moment, nothing seemed to make sense.
Suddenly, she was smiling, not because she was happy, but because she found her life as a piece of joke.
It was like every time something good would happen to her, something dreadful would eventually follow. Her life could not seem to catch a good break. It was like she did not deserve to be happy.
"Aaah!" She mentally shouted inside her. But truthfully, there was nothing more she wanted to do but cry, but even tears seemed to fail her.
Instead, she could only smile, making her conclude that she must be going crazy because her life was in a state of chaos and madness.
"Oh, I am sorry." She mumbled as she finally realized what she had done and looked into those hypnotizing eyes.
She believed it was the greenest thing she had ever seen, momentarily distracting her from her thoughts.
It was like looking into a forest, where everything seemed vibrantly alive, the complete opposite of what she felt inside.
Naturally, she wanted to get lost in them. She wished to run as far away from the darkness that pulled her into an endless abyss and into the light this man seemed to offer.
"I am sorry. I am not usually this clumsy." She apologized again, slurring her words while she attempted to stand up.
"You can let…" She paused as she hiccupped. "... go of me now." As much as she would like to run away with this man, logic still ruled, making her see reason.
Soon enough, he released her body, but unfortunately, she was just too uncoordinated to stand on her own when she almost fell to the ground again.
"I don't think that is a good idea." He was fast as he wrapped his arms around her waist again. "Let me help you. Where is your room?"
As much as she had tried, she was helpless in his arms. Eventually, she knew she had no other recourse, so she gave in and accepted his assistance.
"Upstairs." She mumbled as her vision started to blur again. She could only assume that the constant movements sent the alcohol in her blood to circulate faster into her brain.
"Where?" She could hear him. ".... room?" But his words were slowly fading away. It was like his voice was far, but his body was close, feeling his warmth against her body.
However, her eyes could not see anything anymore as her blurry vision turned into complete and utter darkness. Then, the last thing she remembered was going limp in someone's arms.
The next thing she knew, she woke up floating in the clouds. But it was dark when she peeled her eyes open.
She could only assume it was a dream as her world seemed to swirl all around her, unable to focus on anything.
"Ohhh!" She moaned as her hands automatically touched her temples, willing the world to stop spinning.
She closed her eyes before opening them again, hoping it would clear her vision and make her see better. She believed it helped when she finally saw something.
Those mesmerizing green eyes.
They were staring back at her as if speaking to her.
The tiny light from the windows seemed to bounce in those sparkling orbs, captivating and urging her to look closer and much in depth.
"Are you alright?" His voice sounded so concerned that it felt like he had just caressed her soul. It was so soothing that she found herself relaxing in his watchful eyes.
Suddenly, the world around her vanished, and time seemed to stop. It was just the two of them as everything moved in slow motion.
Then, she felt his fingers as they glided across her cheeks. Suddenly, warmth spread from her cheeks toward her entire body. It was unfamiliar, but she never felt more safe.
Moreover, electricity seemed to jolt her every nerve endings, making her feel more vibrant and more alive than she had ever been in her entire life.
Truthfully, she had never experienced anything like this before. She had never had a dream like this. Suddenly, she did not want to wake up.
Thanks.
