The mere thought of it sent a jolt of dread through his chest, causing a suffocating tightness in his ribcage.
Someone's invisible hand must be gripping his heart and lungs right now, making it difficult for him to breathe.
It was dawning on him just how he was far from ready to carry a child, even though having agreed to Nicolaus' deal.

Mikael met the doctor's gaze. His lips parted as if he was about to say something, but he could not get the words to come out of his throat.
What was he supposed to say?
That he was not ready? The idea of admitting this made his stomach churn with anxiety.
If the doctor would relay this sentiment of his with Nicolaus, what would he think?
