Chapitre 14: Vederia Forest
Once I agreed to accept the punishment, the knights didn't waste any time.
It was so bad that we didn't even get to visit the dungeon before they tossed some low-quality weapons and items at me and Rena.
"Che... Those damn bastards, two weeks or we are traitors, and they expect us to take out the entire bandit camp!"
Rena was expressing anger and frustration but didn't act like that. Instead, her body moved quickly through the forest using her spiked mace, luckily shaped like a kanabo, a long hexagonal wooden pole with sharp spikes along each side.
"Don't worry about it. If we work properly, everything will work out in our favour."
I tried to comfort her while using my enhanced vision to see the small frames of various monsters in the distance: wolves, horned rabbits, and goblins.
The forest was teeming with life and was massive!
My eyes looked at the map and saw that the entire thing was more than 25 miles wide and just as deep as wrapped around the kingdom's capital.
"Rena, take it slowly."
"We need to keep the maps synchronised to our system, so let it calibrate. Let's find some weak monsters to kill first and get some experience."
I grasped my bow while leaving the spear across my back, taking two arrows from the quiver as four wolves prowled 120 metres away.
The longbow's string was no longer tight when I drew the string to full draw and Knocking my arrows.
"Rena, there are four wolves ahead. I will shoot to grab their attention, so please crush those who survive."
"Mmm~ okay, Aki."
My arms felt the slight tension from two arrows swirling with strong mana around their tips as I watched them slowly move, choosing to wait until they stopped.

Finally, they stopped to drink at a small pond located ahead of me, around ninety metres away. I felt a slight tension in my chest before the mana caused a slight vibration as the crude arrows began to glow dark red.

The sound of the bowstring snapping back and the gentle howl of both arrows shot in the air their target, the front two wolves, which were slightly larger.
When I was about to release, there was a kind of signal like a master blowing a dog whistle as Rena's fast body began to sprint towards the wolves, holding her mace over her shoulder, ready to strike before I released the arrow.
She shot across the ninety metres in seconds.
But the wolves didn't seem to get her scent or notice.
The arrows pierced through their chests, causing them to fall onto their sides while the third wolf turned to look behind it, only to be crushed by Rena's mace.
The fourth wolf was about to run off but stopped when it saw me nocking another arrow, glowing with an ominous aura.
It whimpered and ran back towards Rena, who was wiping blood off her mace with some grass nearby, looking bored.
Just as it got close, she lifted her foot and stomped on its neck, instantly crushing its bones.

I walked up to Rena, who had a satisfied look on her face, as I retrieved my arrows and looked at the animals with a bitter look. It was a miracle the system offered to butcher and skin them for us because it seemed to be something that would take a long time to finish.
"Aki, we should eventually learn how to do it ourselves if the system vanishes or is taken away. We can still live in this world."
She turned to me with a small knife and smiled gently.
"How about we try to skin one each, and then the other two, we use the system? This way, we can still profit and save some time?"
I nodded and smiled wryly while watching Rena pick up a wolf by the scruff of its neck, dragging it a bit away before placing it on the floor.
We took out our knives and tried to follow the prompts given to us by the system, which showed pictures of humans cutting the hide of different creatures.
Removing the fur and skin properly was hard work, but we somehow managed it.
After cleaning up our things, we started walking again, hoping to reach a suitable place to camp, or rather, Rena wanted to level up more, so we began heading towards the rabbits I saw.
"Large rabbits with horns should be tasty for dinner, right?" I asked Rena, who was looking around with a smile.
I wondered why she was so happy, but I realised why when she looked at me.
"She was just happy to be outside and with me."
"Aki~ it's a shame we only have two weeks, right?"
My face smiled, thinking that it wasn't so bad for now. We had only been travelling for 20 minutes; sadly, the castle knights didn't allow us to enter the town, and we were thrown out of a back exit that only sent us straight on a dirt path to this forest.
"It is, but let's make it a two-week holiday together, and it might not be so bad, right?"
We avoided a few larger groups of goblins because I was confident against animal-type monsters.
Because the goblins had weapons, and Rena wasn't confident with her mace skills and dodging. She sometimes froze like with the red slime.
"Aki! Goblins are attacking that fox! We have to help it!" Rena shouted while running ahead of me, chasing after a cute baby fox being chased by ten goblins.

I followed her, rushing with my bow ready, loading four arrows into my knuckles.
Although the power shot might be off the table for this combat, I would try to use my double shot twice.
My fingers hurt when I began to Knock the arrow while we were dashing.
Thankfully, the training helped me keep up with her as the fox seemed to dive into thick bushes and a tree trunk hole.

My fingers began to move as the skill informed me.
The information on how to use my fingers to fire arrows faster was rapidly etched into my brain as I knocked my arrows faster than ever before, slight cuts and a strain filling my muscles.
Mana surged through my arms and arrows as they were fired quickly, with a slight delay between the last two.
I could feel the wind resistance as my aim was slightly off, but it hit three goblins, killing one instantly while Rena charged in.

Mana began to surge through my legs and feet as I rushed behind her. I could feel a slight pain from overusing my low mana pool.
I then used Rapid Shot twice to injure goblins. Rena smashed her mace into a goblin's head, killing it before the other three goblins died from my dual shots.

Without thinking, I put the attributes into STR to bolster my melee damage!
The feeling of spending 40 MP was agonising as I dropped my bow, dashing forward with the [Blood Drinking Lance] in my hands.
Rena turned to look at me as I grabbed her with one hand, dragging us back slightly before lifting my lance and thrusting it into the closest goblin, crushing its heart.
