JEROME’S FOOT found mine underneath the small teal table I picked in the corner of Anessa’s bakery. I’d never played footsie and never realized how much I’d lacked it in my life. I lacked a lot before meeting Jerome. He’d highlighted every area of my life and made it so much more.

He worked at becoming my everything, and now that we’d solved the craziness surrounding my shop, I couldn’t wait to spend time with Jerome without worrying about dead bodies or my building collapsing. I thought I’d been falling for the man before, but now I understood I’d already fallen.

How could a girl not fall madly in love with the man who risked his life to save her from death? I made sure Jerome’s guy properly boarded up and sealed the extra room in the basement so no one could ever open it again. I didn’t care what lurked beneath the store’s floor. I had no plans to find out.
