Chapitre 12: Mastery, Struggle and Clash

Mo Yangling's eyes narrowed as he eyed all of the beasts around him.

Various species he couldn't recognize, variants of animals he was familiar to.

'It really does feel like an alien world... So much to explore!'

Mo Yangling's thoughts faltered for just a second, he didn't allow himself to be distracted for too long.

The beasts all now surrounded the Monk, but they were too scared to approach him directly it seemed.

That stalemate was broken by one of the larger beasts in the backlines, a creature that resembled a massive caterpillar with blades for legs and crooked, sharpened teeth adorning every corner of its mouth.

"VOR'GRAHK NARZ'TARGH, THULK'RAZ ZOR'KRAAGH!"

It shouted, its voice crackling like thunder as it resounded in the ears of everyone nearby.

The Monk didn't need a translator to understand what the order was.

The beasts around him immediately rushed in.

Horns, hooves, teeth, and spikes surrounded the monk from all directions. But the monk was not deterred, he had just the right technique for that after all...

'Vajra Fist: Whirling Vajra'

A movement that was very much constructed to deal with several opponents at once, also the monk's favorite to use against the trainee monks.

His core immediately shifted against the attacks coming in from all sides, in a fluid movement, his origin energy moved along his arm and torso as the back of his palm forcefully closed the maw of a bear-like Demonic beast.

The Beast's momentum was turned against it immediately, as its gigantic body was then used as a battering ram, hitting a good portion of demonic beasts around the Monk.

But the movement didn't stop there. It was not really a technique as much as it was a form of constant circular movement.

All of the attacks surrounding Mo Yangling were quickly starting to be parried in that same peculiar manner, with the circular motion of the Monk sending their momentum against themselves.

Spikes cracked and splintered into other beasts, hooves were deflected to crush the skulls of their allies, and teeth were forcefully broken off and sent flying as the Monk's movement itself gained more and more momentum.

'The 'Whirling Vajra' is a technique that centers around the user's ability to build up momentum using the strikes of surrounding enemies.

To a mortal, such a move is limiting and rather dizzying to use, but for someone that's already transcended the limits of regular humans?'

The Monk's body seemed to turn into a blur as he continued to circle around the beasts.

Using that momentum, he constantly moved his center of gravity and hopped around the battlefield using the attacks of the beasts around him.

A bear-like monster with metallic fur swiped its claw towards the Monk at a downward angle.

The bear's paw scooped up dirt as it headed towards the Monk, who was stuck in mid-air redirecting the attacks of a few less-intelligent monsters.

'Hmm, so they've no care for their comrades, huh?'

The monk didn't panic, however, instead, his body spun against the wind pressure created by that gigantic paw.

His aim was to completely sidestep the beast's paw, and he surely would have managed to do so, was he not impaled in the side by an exceedingly long thin spike that extended from the ground.

The Spike also impaled at least 5 other lesser beasts, but the monk didn't have any additional time to think about that.

The spike was sturdy, a lot more so than the monk had expected, it had managed to completely stop his circular momentum, breaking his technique as the Bear's paw directly collided with his entire body.

'Fuck, I need to get more used to fighting beasts!'

The monk had managed to put up his guard just in time, thankfully. But he was still sent flying towards the sky, his body spinning around uncontrollably as Origin Energy enveloped his body for protection.

He was not going to be allowed to get back on land that easily, though...

A flock of large flying beasts immediately descended upon him. They were all massive, each easily being the size of a house, with a beak that looked to be made of wood, and a body made of spiky vines.

Their green, glowing eyes shone with intelligence as they moved like a hail of gigantic bullets towards the Monk's back.

But Mo Yangling was not going to let himself get taken advantage of that easily.

Using the spinning momentum received from the Metallic Bear's attack, he met the birds with a twisting open palm.

'Vraja Fist: Diamond Palm Strike!'

The Monk's palm shot forward, his skin shone like a diamond as a blue aura projected in front of him taking the form of a gigantic palm.

A majority of the flock of flying beasts were seemingly not expecting such an attack, and their beaks were immediately crushed against the great momentum of that Palm Projection.

'Seems like the intelligent ones are stepping in! I've probably killed enough lower beasts for them to realize that I wasn't even getting tired doing it...'

By that time, the monk had managed to stabilize himself using that palm strike, so he strategically allowed himself to fall right on top of one of the birds from earlier.

It immediately tried to shake him off, but one of the monk's arms clenched the beast by the neck tightly, not allowing it to even control its own flight trajectory.

'Still, this is a lot more troublesome than I imagined...'

The monk could easily adapt his martial arts to the weaker beasts, as he outclassed them physically by a very long shot.

But the more intelligent the beats were, the stronger they were.

While he was still stronger than them, the gap between them became smaller and smaller, and it could eventually be breached by their overwhelming numbers.

Unfortunately, the monk was not given enough time to make up a plan of action, as the Beasts from below immediately started bombarding the sky.

A flurry of earth spikes, bone spikes, and even beast carcasses were being thrown at the Monk.

Mo Yangling gripped the thorny bird's neck even harder as he steered it to dodge the attacks.

The bird itself was intelligent enough to not be too keen on dying, even when being directly ordered to do so.

'Fear of death is something that intelligence only amplifies after all...'

The monk decided to use that to his advantage. Using the Bird as footing, his free hand immediately moved as he took a stance.

He pointed towards the beasts on the ground with an excited look on his face.

'One Finger Zen: Pointed Strike!'

All of the monks at his monastery had at least mastered a single one-handed style of fighting. After all, how else were they going to keep training when one of their arms was broken?

Mo Yangling was no different in that matter. Rather, he was even more adamant about it than most, having also served as an instructor.

But with the advent of Origin Energy, the Finger Technique which used to be more simple and meditative in nature in his past life, became quite destructive.

A thin line formed from the Monk's finger into the ground, piercing everything in sight as he poked a hole right through the blanket of beasts in the forest below, its crushing power quaking and permanently scarring the earth.

Normally, the entire One Finger Zen style was more focused on piercing power. Achieving more whilst expending less effort...

So what was going to happen when the Monk charged that move with enough Origin Energy to match the Vraja Fist?

Well...

Where that slender line of energy had touched down, an explosion of Origin Energy shot through the earth.

That energy engulfed from that single point, and expanded instantly into an explosion that swallowed up hundreds of beasts.

That blast of energy seemed to shake all of the Demonic Beasts present. But it also shook the Monk slightly.

'Shit, I'm expending too much energy like this! I accidentally put even more Origin Energy into it... But at least I got a majority of the stragglers to fuck off.'

The explosion itself was not even the best part of the attack.

The sheer shockwave had scattered the beasts below even further, and the small earthquake that it had created scared off the majority of the lower level ones.

The sheer stench of blood and guts in the field was enough of a bad omen for them to cause enough fear to force them to flee.

After all, the one commanding the beasts was not the Forest's King, it was not powerful enough to make them all want to kill themselves.

The monk was about to celebrate slightly, but then his instincts blared at him and he immediately looked to the side.

The gigantic bladed caterpillar from earlier was now barreling towards him, gliding through the air with its edged appendages as it inched closer and closer, trying to swallow up the monk entirely with its jagged maw.

'As if!'

The monk's entire stance changed as he let go of the flying beast's neck underneath him.

'Arhat Fist: Big Flood Strike!'

Arching at an extremely wide angle, his punch hurtled forward to meet the beast directly.

From his fist extended forward a gigantic wave of water-like Origin Energy, which aimed to completely overwhelm it.

But not everything was going quite according to plan...

'Shit, this thing's much stronger than that stupid snake!'

It seemed to completely swallow up that wave unleashed by the Monk's Martial Art, eventually being forced to bite down on it as its gigantic body crashed into the Monk.

The flying beast was immediately turned into a splatter of blood on the ground below them, and Mo Yangling was sent flying as well.

His body crashed into the ground, forming a large crater as he bounced off of it like a rock skipping water.

The monk dug his feet into the ground to stop his momentum. He looked up to the beast, which continued to glide in the wind.

The beast's jagged maw seemed to twist into a smile as some of its teeth cracked.

"Hmph- That martial art was quite formidable... I was aiming to swallow you whole, yet you managed to get away with losing just an arm."

The Monk raised an eyebrow, before looking down at his side, his eyes widened to see his left arm missing.

'Tsk... He must've swallowed it up alongside my technique...'

The monk was a bit annoyed by that point, his body was filled with bruises and injuries, and his Origin Energy was not exactly limitless either.

'I'll focus on regrowing my arm and whether it's possible later. For now, I'll try to finish this!'

Here's today's chapter! Bit earlier than usual. Hope you liked it!

Yeah the mc is strong, but he is not overpowered just yet. He has a lot of room for improvement, let's just put it like that :))

Chapitre 13: Evolved Being, Experience and Difficulty

The Monk scowled when looking down at his missing left arm.

But he was not discouraged. He had seen his body heal and reconstruct itself from worse.

'If I can close a hole in my skull with fresh new bones, and heal every bone in a broken body, then I surely can regrow an arm... It's more about how much energy it'll consume.'

The Monk had already spent what felt like over half of his energy was consumed, just from healing his previous injuries and the few techniques he had used.

'I keep overcharging every martial art with Origin Energy, I really need to work on the proper use and consumption of each technique...'

He knew the flow of breath required for each technique, he knew the perfect movements and positions of the muscles. But he had no clue how much Origin Energy he was supposed to use.

'I have a long way to go...'

The Monk slowly straightened his back, looking at the 3 stronger demonic beasts in the distance.

All other beasts were too scattered to pose any threat to him, they all seemed to be retreating.

'Seems like those three just used the others to tire me out. Very human tactics, honestly...'

The Monk scoffed, he had hoped that Beasts would behave differently. But really, what else could he have expected?

'They're called 'Demonic Beasts' for a reason, I guess...'

Still, Mo Yangling's confidence didn't fall in the slightest.

"You won't be taking us down with those unrefined techniques of yours..." The bladed caterpillar in the distance seemed quite keen on bringing down the Monk's morale.

In truth, it had also taken quite a bit of damage. Most of its bladed teeth were ruined, they'd take years to grow back out.

'Out of the three Beast Generals, I am the strongest, yet he still managed to injure me like this.

This Cultivator's strength is indeed overbearing, that stupid Snake was right. High-Level Demonic Beasts are not even able to stand up to him.'

The Caterpillar immediately moved its senses towards the other two Beast Generals present. Its mind was already building up a strategy and studying the Monk's abilities.

'He also seems to have learned healing arts, most of the injuries he's received are already no longer there...

He'll make for good nourishment for whoever ends up consuming him. For now, I better keep my distance though.'

The Bladed Caterpillar twisted its body and nodded towards the other two Beast Generals.

One outwardly appeared to be an exceedingly large dark spiked ball, a beast that had its small body hidden underneath a strong and hard-to-approach carapace.

The other looked like a giant cyclops-like being, with flaming hair and enough belly fat to feed an entire city.

"KRASH'TUL! VOR'RAKH THROG'NAAL NARZ'TARGH!" (Brothers! Kill that human!)

This time, the Monk's eyes widened as he also understood the beast's words.

'No time to celebrate my linguistic achievements.'

The Bladed Caterpillar continued flying above, its gigantic body casting a shadow over the battlefield as the Cyclops rushed in first, and the other Beast sunk its spikes further into the ground.

The Monk's eyes widened as he saw countless dark spikes rising from the ground in odd patterns.

'The hell kind of attack is this?'

The monk scowled as he took a stance, but before he even flexed his muscles he felt the ground behind him shifting ever-so-slightly.

The monk knew to follow his instincts, so he immediately rolled to the side, enhancing his stride as he dodged a darkened spike coming out of the ground right from behind him.

'Shit, this spiky bastard was the one to interrupt my technique earlier too...'

The Cyclops gigantic body immediately passed through the many spikes that were used as a distraction previously and one of its arms immediately descended upon the Monk, attempting to swat him like a fly.

In an instant, Mo Yangling decided to use the only other one-armed style he knew how to use. The Dragon Claw Style

The Monk's fingers immediately curled, his arm starting to look almost akin to a claw as it was covered in Origin Energy.

'Tearing Dragon Claw!'

The Monk immediately swiped his claw at the Cyclops's arm.

A move that would have only caused scratches to appear in his last life now extended forward into 4 gigantic claw projections which immediately cut the monster to pieces.

The Cyclops was cut into 5 pieces and sent flying away, guts and blue blood spilling all over the battlefield as the Monk immediately turned to block another spike rising from the ground.

'Shit, I can't afford to be swapping techniques any longer! I need to quickly stop fucking around and master one of them...'

The Monk immediately resolved himself, his dragon claw keeping its form as he immediately turned to block a gigantic rolling blade that had been shot from the skies.

The rotation of the blade made the Monk's joints ache as he batted it to the side, but he didn't have much time to worry about his joints as he felt the ground all around him shifting.

This time, dozens upon dozens of spikes rose from the ground and tried to impale him from all sides.

The monk's expression twisted with frustration as he immediately turned his dragon claw towards the ground.

'Snap!'

The dragon claw crashed into the ground and immediately cracked the earth, causing a charged earthquake which quickly broke the spikes of the Demonic Beasts.

'I should deal with that one first... It's way too annoying!'

The Monk immediately set his sights on a new target, but before he could dash towards it, he heard movement form behind him and immediately turned around, his claw swiping at... a smaller Cyclops?!

Mo Yangling scowled as he watched every piece of that Cyclops turn into a smaller version of it in real-time.

'What the fuck is this bullshit!?'

He was immediately annoyed by it, especially when he had to swipe his claw at the sky as well, deflecting another whirling blade from the Caterpillar.

Many of the Cyclops clones rushed in, but he quickly clawed away at them, further cutting them apart into smaller and smaller pieces, only to see those pieces turn into smaller Cyclops as well.

One of the clones had gotten close enough to punch at the monk's head.

Mo Yangling immediately guarded it with his forearm, only to feel his bones cracking slightly and his entire sleeve rip off.

'Shit! Each clone is still this physically strong?!'

The Beast seemed to be using a specific method to strengthen every part of its body. One that was certainly more effective than the monks.

The Monk was, however, still stronger, he kicked the clone away, causing it to fly off and flip in the air a few times before being caught by other clones.

"You can't defeat the Great 'Many Eyes' that easily, human!" The Cyclops spoke from a hundred mouths, gloating its unusual power with a confident smirk.

"..." The Monk stood still for a moment, his eyes twitching with anger.

"Shut up..." Mo Yangling muttered as he looked at the dozens of Cyclops versions now surrounding him.

"You're not leaving this place alive today, human!~" The Caterpillar in the sky mocked him as well, it's voice booming over the battlefield.

From the distance, the monk heard that odd spiked beast buzzing at a strange frequency as well, almost as if it was agreeing.

The Monk felt veins bulging on his forehead as he turned and swiped away another twirling blade, sending it crashing directly into the Cyclops clones to the side.

"Let's see you try and kill me then! I'll take out that stupid porcupine of yours first!"

The Many-Eyed beast shuddered slightly at the sheer intensity of the Monk's voice.

'Shit! Of course, he'd target 'Death Stinger' By now he must've realized that a fight against me will always be one of attrition...'

The cyclops immediately moved some more of its clones towards the flank, defending the Death Stringer which still buzzed in the distance.

The monk immediately charged his legs with an ungodly amount of Energy and dashed, his clawed hand cutting right through the Cyclops as he headed straight for... The opposite direction?

"He's fleeing you fucking idiots!" The Bladed Caterpillar's guttural voice boomed through the sky as it's gigantic body quickly moved to follow the Monk.

The Cyclops immediately scowled, its many eyes now squinting as it quickly brought itself back together into one large Cyclops and started sprinting after the monk.

The Death Stinger also hummed dangerously, its body immediately entered the ground and started following them through it.

But the Monk paid them no mind as he managed to widen the distance between him and his enemies more and more with each stride he took.

'This kind of strategy always calls for a strategic retreat. These beasts would all be annoying to fight individually, all of them together will just be the end of me...'

In the distance, the large figure of a White Snake rose from the ground right in the monk's fleeing path, its mouth open wide and trying to swallow the injured man.

Mo Yangling just scoffed at that attempt.

"Where'd you get the confidence, stupid snake!"

His clawed hand immediately swiped forward, the scowl on his face twisting as he used the same attack as before, this time using a little less Origin Energy.

'Tearing Dragon Claw!'

Despite being more focused on his Energy Usage, the claws of the dragon still extended forward, tearing the Snake apart before it even managed to react properly, as the monk passed straight through it.

"GRAHK'TOL, NARZ'TARGH KRAZ'VULK RAK'THAAR?!" (Shit, how is a human this fast?!)

The caterpillar's voice seemed beyond frustrated as it tried to glide faster and faster in the wind.

The monk smiled as he felt them getting further and further away, his movement greatly enhanced by his great Origin Energy.

But he was also feeling lower and lower in energy by the moment.

'No matter, these beasts won't follow me much further. I am close to reaching human territories, and I doubt they want to start a war with just the three of them...'

The Monk continued dashing forward, each stride greater than the last as the beasts were left behind further and further.

"Stupid Human! You better never show your face around these forests again!"

In the distance, the Bladed Caterpillar shouted out for one last time, before eventually turning around, its gigantic body parting the clouds.

The monk just smiled as he continued to dash into the distance.

'Good, I was just about to run out of energy anyway...'

When the monk finally stopped, he could feel the blood draining from his stump. The Monk grasped at it with a complex gaze.

'I better heal this before heading into human civilization...'
