Chapitre 98: Chapter 98
He jumped a few times to the surprise of his teammates and smacked both his cheeks as hard as he could before he sat on his broom. He looked at the others and waited for a few seconds before frowning, "What? You don't want to play?"
All of them simply shook their heads and took positions. They waited for the whistle and when they heard it, they turned around to face the opposing team and shot towards the quaffle that was thrown into the air.
Lee Jordan was commentating as usual but all they could hear was the word Hufflepuffs. Jordan looked over at the stands and to his surprise, most of the Gryffindors and Slytherins wore the Hufflepuff colors and were shouting their house name.
"Ignore them… I want to go sleep so let's end this fast, yeah?", Alex said as he kept his eye on the bludgers and Jason nodded as he turned towards his partner.
"You fine?", he asked and Alex nodded. A slight crackling sound entered Jason's ears and he looked behind, only to see that the end of Alex's broom was covered in visible sparks.
"H- hey, what is tha-"
Before he could finish his sentence, Alex zoomed into the middle and got near the chasers. A bludger stopped right in its tracks as it hit a large wooden thing.
Alex swung his bat back and struck the bludger with all his might, sending it toward the Hufflepuff keeper while almost everyone in the stands stared at him, wide-mouthed.
"Roger passes the quaffle to Su Li who expertly tosses it towards Randolph who is away from the other chase- oh no a bludger goes straight towards him! will he be- what?"
Lee stood still as he stared at the Ravenclaw beater who had arrived to block the bludger instantaneously. It took him a whole second to get his shit together before he screamed into the mic.
"JUST WHAT WAS THAT?!!! DID I SEE THAT RIGHT, GUYS? WAS THAT LIGHTNING?!!!"
Loud roars came in response, confirming that the thing he saw had actually happened and that he wasn't hallucinating.
"Wait! Why are the players still? Are they shocked too?"
McGonagall didn't say a thing as she stood behind him. It was not that she didn't want to. She just couldn't. She stared at Alex wide-eyed, her hands shivering.
Somewhere nearby, Flitwick and a few other professors were having a similar reaction although not as severe as McGonagall.
Alex turned around to look at Randolph, "Oy, go score."
It was only when he spoke that the players snapped back and resumed the game. The Hufflepuffs couldn't concentrate well as their attention kept going towards Alex and if he was not in their sights, anxiousness enveloped their hearts.
Jason blocked one of the bludgers from hitting Su Li and flew toward Alex, "Looks like you don't have to do much now… their morale just buried itself and I doubt they'll be able to play properly after your show."
"…. Let's just end this, yeah?", Alex said as he looked at Jason, "I really am sleepy and I doubt I can stay attentive for long."
Jason nodded in reply, "The same thing we practiced?"
"Yeah… I'll leave it to you to set up the shot.", he said and flew towards Aman and hit a bludger, changing its trajectory towards the center of the field.
Alex simply played defensive as he waited for Jason to set up a decent shot for him and he didn't have to wait too long for that. He had hit one of the bludgers with just enough force to make it go forward but it had a moderate speed.
Alex didn't let the chance go as he tried to accelerate to reach the highest speed, only to fail but he still was able to hit the Bludger. It shot through two of the Hufflepuff chasers and was about to hit Alden Summers who was their best chaser but was blocked by Anthony Rickett, one of their beaters.
Unfortunately, he blocked it with his body and the result wasn't pleasing to the eye. His arm had caved in and some of his ribs were broken. Blood dripped off of the crushed arm while the whole Hufflepuff team flew over to check up on him.
Roger stopped in his tracks and looked at his opponents before letting out a long sigh. He didn't like Alex's method but in his eyes that was the most efficient way to win matches and he wasn't dumb enough to ignore that fact.
Su Li looked away while the rest of the team simply sighed as they glanced at Alex. Jason flew over to him before patting him on his back.
"Nice shot, mate."
Alex nodded and waited. Unfortunately, what he expected didn't happen as McGonagall, Snape, Sprout, and Flitwick ran over to Hooch and had a short discussion before looking up at the players.
All of them were called down and they complied while the injured Anthony Rickett was taken away to the hospital ward. His cries were loud enough to be heard for a few seconds after he was gone.
Hooch looked at everyone and then stopped at Alex for a second before she began to speak, "Injuries are quite common in Quidditch and this is something we should always keep in mind.
Beaters were introduced to keep their teammates safe from the bludgers but as time passed, some exceptional beaters tried to injure opponents by aiming at them.
Many were not so successful mind you, but there has never been a rule that stopped them from injuring people. It's been almost half a century since we have witnessed a beater do this.
We will uphold the quidditch traditions and not change the rules or punish anyone but it has come to our notice that Alex, the beater of Ravenclaw has been riding an unauthorized broom that does not follow the rules and doesn't pass the safety standards."
