The drive to the bar was quick but quiet. I barely registered anything. Nico was trying to keep me in the moment but was not succeeding. I kept going over in my head what Kaitlyn had told me, that there was something to do with flowers and a card? And how her last name was wrong? I didn’t get it. What did any of that mean, and how was I supposed to piece together any meaning behind it?

I kept feeling nauseous as I recalled my argument with Carrigan at the beach. I knew she was secretive. I knew she had some type of history, but I let it go. I stopped pushing her. Why had I done that? I loved her; why couldn’t she understand I wanted to know everything about her?

“Mate, we’re almost there; keep it together!” Nico called, trying to talk to me and keep an eye on the road simultaneously. I didn’t answer him, so he used his backhand to smack my arm, which got a reaction out of me. “Blimey. I get you’re miffed, but this is barmy. We’re almost there.”
