Currently the center of the coliseum of the Golden Lion Adventuring Academy has the focus of all of the new students. And the one receiving that attention is a man with what could only be described as a golden lion's mane flowing gracefully in the wind. "Since this is most likely the first time that many of you have seen me, allow me to introduce myself." The golden-haired man slowly walked in a circle as he tried to make sure that he had everyone's attention. "My name is Liam Pix, and I am this wonderful academy's dean. I am here to welcome you all to the beginning of your long path as an adventurer."
"Did he say that his last name was Pix? Like the head of the city?" Darren whispered to Mill. "Yeah, I thought that the guy looked familiar, but he must be related to the mayor or something? I don't know how but it's probably there." Mill and Darren ended their quick conversation and once again focused on the school's dean. "There was a time long, long ago when if you wanted to be an adventurer than you just went out and tried to do it regardless of if you had experience or not. This process birthed many great heroes like Kinteth Yenders, Nero Octilly, and even Alix Deminal went out to become adventurers at the age of 16 with no prior preparation. Unfortunately, not all of those that did this were successful."
Dean Pix looked around to make sure that he still had everyone's interest focused on him. "That's how it was two centuries ago, but not now. Now youths like yourselves that aspire to become adventurers can get the experience and preparation for the path in a safe place. Here you will get to experience all sorts of things ranging from solo missions to full 100 person raids. You will get the resources and skills that took adventurers of the past years to obtain and all of that while under the care of our very skillful staff!"
Dean Pix motioned to the screens, and they cut to footage of what could only assumed to be of all of the different teachers in the academy. "Hey, isn't that the woman that was overseeing our exam?" Mill and Lua looked at the screen and indeed they saw Fina Ophis standing among the other teachers. "It makes sense that they got some of the teachers from the school to oversee the exam so of course we'll see some familiar faces." The cameras returned to the dean. "We will all make it our only mission, from now to however long you stay here, to make sure you are fully prepared to take on all of the dangers of an adventurer's life so that you lessen your chances of getting killed."
Dean Pix had a very serious look on his face for a second before he dropped it. "But all things considered that's not what any of you need to be worried about right now." the dean gave a hearty chuckle. "All any of you need to worry about are the instructors that you should choose based on your path and events that you think you'll enjoy watching. In fact, we have one such events today." Murmurs started to spread across the crowd. "Event? What Kind?"
"He seems to think that we'll enjoy it. Is it some type of game?"
"I didn't come here to play any games, so I'll probably skip out on this." The dean smiled as he listened to the many conversations that were spreading. "Sense all of you seem so interested I'll give you all a little teaser." The dean cleared his throat and started to speak in a slightly playful and yet powerful voice. "If I call your name, might I please ask you to make your way down here." The crowd started to look at each other as they tried to guess what the dean's plan was.
"Tyra Kendall." From his seat Mill could see a girl start to make her way down the stands, but at the same time the screens shifted to show some sort of compilation. I showed the girl that was just called during the exam. She was fighting against a large group of goblins with a mace and was tearing them each down with one hit. The video then cut to Tyra launching a giant ball of fire at a Goblin Shaman ending on a close up of her face at the end with her name in big letters. At this point the crowd started to cheer for Tyra for her amazing display. She looked slightly embarrassed as she waved at the crowd and was now standing next to the dean.
"Jack Nodin" The screen once again cut to a compilation of the boy's performance during the entrance exam tearing through a group of slimes with some assistance of his party, but he was definitely carrying the group. The video ended just as the boy made it next to the girl from earlier. Another name was called this one being another boy and his video played as well and this one decided to make an entrance as he went down launching flames all around him as he walked down. As he made it next to the others, he finished with a large pillar of flame that caused the crowd to go wild. "Now I would like to pause for a second to let everyone here know that the names that I am calling are the best five performances that we witnessed during the entrance exam."
The crowd of students all gave sounds of recognition as they now understood the point of the videos as well. Then they started to count and realize that there were only three people down there and the dean noticed their reaction. "I can see a lot of you confused now. Yes, right now there are only three people standing next to me right now, and I don't mean to discredit them, but I would just like to say that these next two people had such amazing performances that our very own instructors were stunned into silence. Now let's get started with the first of the two." The director cleared his voice one more time and started. "This next person has the bloodline of a legend running through their veins! They are blessed with the power of the Blaze in ways that some have never even heard of! She's half elven and has the magic to show for it! Now! With a blood purity of 50% and a personality like that of an angel! I now call, Lacey Kay Prometheus!"
Mill looked at Lacey who sitting next to him with nothing more than shock on his face. "I can't believe that I got to sit next to one of the MVPs of the first years." Mill spoke jokingly but he was still very much surprised. "Aww, thank you. Maybe I'll give you an autograph later." Lacey winked at Mill and waved goodbye to Lua and Darren as she started her walk down. By this point her video compilation had started and it showed her going against five hobgoblins alone, but something was different about this video. It looked like Lacey was outside as the Blaze could be seen in the sky above her.
'Looks like there were some simulations that would place you in an outdoor dungeon.' Suddenly, it looked like Lua was glowing, no, she was shining as bright as the Blaze that was above her. It looked like the energy from the Blaze was running across her body. She then concentrated that energy into one of her hands and launched it at the hobgoblins while her other hand was out to the side. People then realized that she was attacking the hobgoblins while healing one of her party members at the same time. Mill looked back towards Lacey and saw her glowing just like in the video, only this time she sprouted a pair of golden wings of Blaze light. She crouched down and took off into the sky above the screens with what was like a spotlight shining down on her as she flew around the stadium. The crowd started to cheer and shout as she flew by them.
Meanwhile, the footage on the screen was showing her healing more of her group members and taking out more monsters by herself until it got to the boss and her group was nowhere to be seen. By this point the sky had darkened and Lacey was no longer glowing. Now, this entire time the crowd could see that she had a long stick of some sort on her back which they had all assumed was a magic staff to harness her abilities. They were now realizing just how wrong they were as they watched this 5 ft 3 in tall half elven girl pull out a two-meter-tall battle axe and with a single hand and prep it over her shoulder. This made the crowd go wild yet again and one person even passed out from excitement.
The video proceeded to show Lacey, who up to this point had been assumed a mage, fight the boss, that was a powerful ogre, by exchange swinging a battle axe. As the fight went on a change could be seen as Lacey's midnight black hair started change into a silvery moon color. All except the single blue streak in her hair changed and so had she as the screen show the ogre swing its club down on the girl only for it to be caught with one hand while the other delivered a decisive blow with the battle axe and cutting deep into the ogre's chest. Lacey turned around and swung the battle axe to remove the blood as she looked forward with an icy cold stare and her name appeared in bright glowing letters.
Lacey then landed as the spotlight centered on herself and she released a gentle glow throughout the stadium that people could actually touch and play with. The lights all suddenly went to the center above Lacey and formed a giant orb of light like that of a mini-Blaze. Lacey held her hands together and the orb of light exploded and spelled out her name in giant letters.
Mill was awestruck by his new friends display during the entrance exam. "That was amazing! I genuinely want that autograph now!" Mill was excited to see who would be called next. As the dean went to speak into the microphone yet again. "Now that was quite the beautiful display. And the way that they wonderful young woman swung that battle axe like it was a toy was quite amazing as well! That just goes to show you that within the light there's always just a little darkness." The dean the crowd continue cheering for Lacey until they eventually died down and all of Lacey's effects to wore out. "Now, let's move onto the final one yes and might I just say that if you enjoyed that last one, then this next one will send you to the moon."
The crowd including Mill sat in anticipation for the next name. That last one was amazing but that wasn't even the best one. Who in the world one-upped that and how?
