80% What A Horrible Reincarnation / Chapter 12: Worry.

Chapitre 12: Worry.

After walking from school, we stopped in front of a two-story house. Their house was painted in white with a name plate named 'Jiro' near the gate

Damn, her father is a singer alright. Although I don't know about her mother, she is probably doing music related work too.

I stared at the house. "Ooh, you guys got a nice house," I said.

I actually like the color white. Their house may look simple, but it's still a pretty house nonetheless. Wait, scratch that. It's literally a nice and good house. Which is... something I can't afford. Well not that I can't. It's just that living in a rather fully functioning house is kinda a waste since I'm just alone.

Kyoka tilted her head. "Eh not really, it's normal," she said, looking at me.

My face froze. 'Damn, she just called me poor in two different ways,' I thought.

I have lived in an apartment in two different lives. I learned that not properly saving money is gonna put me into hell. Even though I received a death pension, I can't just recklessly spend it. So I must still have an income.

"Anyway, come in," Kyoka said as she entered their house.

I followed her. "Alright, thanks for the invite," I said as I entered the house.

I then followed her as she went to their living room. "Mom, dad. I'm home!" Kyoka said.

"Oh Kyoka, it seems that you actually managed to bring him haha," Kyo-san said as he turned his head to us, looking away from his phone.

I waved my hand. "Sup' Kyo-san, thanks for having me," I said.

Kyoka placed her bag on the couch. "Hey, where's mom?" she asked.

"She's cookin' for dinner, you could help her if you want," Kyo-san said.

"Oh, okay sure," Kyoka said as she went to the kitchen.

After standing for a few seconds and glancing around, I walked towards the couch to the opposite of Kyo-san.

I then sat on the couch, putting my bag beside me. "So? What's the invite for?" I asked as I looked at Kyo-san.

"Hm? What do you mean?" Kyo-san asked.

Seriously, inviting me was weird. This looks like a kidnapper telling a kid which he fed cookies on a daily basis that he has more cookies in his house.

"You know what I meant. We may know each other, but that's not enough reason to invite me over for dinner."

Kyo-san laughed. "Haha, as expected. You're kinda really smart despite how you look huh," Kyo-san said.

'Huh? What is this guy smoking?'

"What the hell? Did you just say in a roundabout way that I look stupid?"

"No, nah, nope! You said that, not me," Kyo-san said, waving his hand. "Anyway, we should continue this later. People here have rather sharp hearings you see."

Well, true. After all, they both have earphone jacks hanging on their earlobes. Dunno how that works, but still quite a useful quirk.

After a few more minutes, they called us to the dining room. I can already smell how good the food was just by walking towards the dining room.

I entered as I saw Kyoka's mom. "Ah, hello Mrs. Jiro. Thanks for having me," I greeted her.

Kyoka's mom nodded. "Likewise. You must be Staz, correct?" she asked.

"Uh, yes." I don't know why but, it feels like she's one of those who looks really cool on the outside, but actually an airhead on the inside.

We then sat on the table. I saw dishes such as karaage, tonkatsu rice, udon, and some soup as I looked around the table.

'Damn, these look delicious as hell..'

I'm definitely gonna ask for her recipe later.

And then, we started eating. I must say, the dishes tasted as delicious as just how they looked.

"So, how was school?" Kyoka's mom asked.

Kyoka swallowed her food. "Ah about that, we already finished the semester. Although technically, we still have one week because of the final examination that would happen on the last 2 days of this week," she answered.

"And after that, I guess next is the entrance exam," I added as I ate another spoon.

The school semester just ended, so we still probably have 2 months and a week before high school starts. And also, the entrance exam will be on the day after the final examination.

Kyo-san grabbed a karaage. "Oh yeah about that, what did you choose?" he asked me.

Kyoka turned her head at me. "Right, I'm curious about that as well."

I drank a spoon of the soup. "Well, I chose a career that would benefit me. Damn.. this is good," I answered indirectly.

Kyoka's eyes lowered a bit. "Oh, I.. see.. " she said.

Even though she doesn't know whether I love music or just enjoyed it as a hobby, she still at least knows that I played guitar a lot to the point that I would become a regular customer of her dad.

She must have thought that, despite I could have chosen something I want, I chose a career that would rather benefit me, like something connected to my work etc. She probably thought that becoming a hero, isn't in my choices.

'I can't tell them yet, I would like to see her surprise pikachu reaction if I ever get accepted. Keke—gyahaha!'

"Well what about you?" I asked.

Kyoka smiled. "Well, I'm gonna become a hero," she said with complete confidence.

"Hmm.. I see," I said.

Welp, there it is. She said she would become a hero. Canon event.

After eating, I told them that I would do the dishes. After I finished washing the dishes, Kyo-san invited me to their studio.

The room was full of instruments. It has a bunch of guitars, drums, piano, and a high quality sound recorder. While the room itself has walls covered by sound insulation foam.

Kyoka was currently taking a bath for a while now, so it's just me and Kyo-san alone in the room.

"Wow, this is amazing. Wait, doesn't it get too loud in here? Wouldn't it bother the neighbors?" I asked..

Kyo-san tapped the walls. "Nah, it actually won't. See this?" he said.

"I see," I said. "So, what is it?" I asked straight to the point while touching the piano.

Kyo-san scratched his head. "Well don't worry, this will be just quick. So, what do you think about it?" he asked.

I got confused. "About what?" I asked.

"About Kyoka, her becoming a hero."

"What about her? I see no problem with that, nor has it got anything to do with me."

"No, well.. I know that me and my wife already told her that she could do whatever she wants. It's just that.. it's about being a hero you know?" Kyo-san said.

'Ah, I see. This dude's been probably thinking about that for a while now.'

"I'm really worried you know? I can't just help but get worried about the risks that come with being a hero you see." Kyo-san said.

"Being a hero means facing risks. There are villains out there that could be killing someone right now. It scares me what Kyoka might have to face."

"I know that heroes go through various trainings to prepare themselves, and I know that it's not like Kyoka will be the only hero as I'm sure that she will meet great friends soon."

"But.. they would still have to face danger you know. It would not only be physically demanding, but it would be emotionally demanding as well."

"I already saw heroes saving people many times wearing a cheerful expression through some news, but that won't fool me. I may not be a hero to know their feelings, but I definitely know that they're just people too. Some of them might not be okay."

"I'm really worr—" Kyo-san didn't manage to finish his sentence.

I raised my palm, facing it at Kyo-san. "Okay! hold up, wait a minute!!" I shouted, cutting Kyo-san's sentence.

No more words are needed. This person in front of me right now, is just an ordinary father being worried about his daughter.

If I wanted to make a comparison, it would seem like a father just got told by her 15 year old daughter that she wants to be a soldier that could greatly put her in danger.

I put my palm on my forehead. "Now shit, how in the world did you think I should be hearing this?" I asked.

Kyo-san tilted his head. "Well me and my wife already talked about this, and having 3 different perspectives is better than just 2. Also, it would be nice to hear what to hear about you— the same age as my daughter that likes music too would say."

"What's up with logic.? Well to be honest, it's not like you guys could stop her anymore right? You guys saw it earlier, her eyes told us already." I said, shrugging my shoulders.

Kyo-san sighed. "Ha.. yeah I know," he said.

"Well, you guys shouldn't worry that much. Kyoka's strong. She should know herself that being a hero means accompanying danger, yet despite that,

she still chose to become a hero," I said.

"I guess you might be right. All I can do is trust my daughter huh? haha," Kyo-san said as he laughed. "But ugh.. I'm still worried!" he added.

"Ahh jeez, well if it worries you so much I guess you could sort of count on me?"

"Huh.?"

"Well.. if push comes to shove in a moment that Kyoka's really in danger, I would go save her."

"W-wait.. what? come again?"

I scratched my head in embarrassment. "Arggh.. don't make me repeat it! it's cringey as hell. But yeah, what I mean was I would go become a hero too. And that I could sort of watch over her," I said.

"Woah.. you want to become a hero too? Was that alright? I mean, I'm not trying to belittle you or whatever but.. well, you do look like you'd be dying soon."

"What the hell are you talking about..? And I am here trying to be nice, you wanna have a go huh!!? Just you know, I am actually quite strong!!"

Now I know just where Kyoka did get her attitude, fckin father and daughter duo.

"H-hey! Calm down, kid! Calm down!"

"Shit, I'm outta here."

I opened the door as I went outside the studio room. I then saw Kyoka just sitting on the couch. She was wearing a grey t-shirt with her wet hair slicked back. I could also see a hint of redness on her face, probably stayed in the bath for too long.

"Yo, Kyoka. Thanks a lot for the food, I'll be going now," I said, grabbing my bag.

Kyoka looked at me. "Oh, you already going?" she asked, standing up.

I nodded. "Hmh, also it's getting really late," I answered.

"Ah wait," someone said. It was Kyoka's mom. She then handed me a small food container. "Here take this with you, it's a vegetable salad," she said.

"Uh, you don't really need to but, thanks!" I said as I received it.

Kyoka's mom eyed me from head to toe. "Eat lots of food okay? Stay healthy!" she said while smiling.

'Bruh.. did she just did that? Why do they assume that I'm very unhealthy?'

I know that I looked completely pale but I'm really fine. Is it because of my pale skin? Now that I think of it, that sounds racist.

I hate this household.. Thanks for the food though.

"Well, thanks again for inviting me. Bye!" I said as I went outside their house.

I thanked them for the last time as I walked a bit far from their house.

And then, I jumped and leaped high into the air.
