Chapitre 27: Sleepover
We each approached our chest and funnily enough this time mine had a paw print on it. I opened my chest and was greeted with the same lines of text.
'Congratulations on clearing the 2nd floor of the Wild Wood Dungeon for the first time. Since your party is the first to clear this floor your reward has been enhanced. Please choose one of the following three options:

I stared at the choices slightly shocked. I immediately disregarded the idea of the axes, at this point I had no issues with my close combat abilities. That left me with a form upgrade or a free level and a half of status points.
I was stuck between the two, on the one hand an F rank creature was probably a god like existence for the next several floors at least while a free 3 skill points would also be a game changer. The real question was do I fast track something I can get through hard work and perseverance later or do I get something completely extra.
As I deliberated I realized I was the last one left to pick and I could feel the heat from the flames getting uncomfortably hot. I grit my teeth and quickly made a decision and stepped to the set of portals.
"3rd floor anyone?" I asked jokingly which got even a tired response of 'sleep first' from Mick.
A chuckled and nodded at Jenna.
"Kate, instead of splitting the spoils out in the open why don't you come back to where we're staying so our business can be done privately. Besides then Isabell can give you the all clear or treat you if needed." Jenna asked.
Kate nodded her head without hesitation and I reached door the portal that would lead us home. The vote unsurprisingly passed unanimously and we all stepped into the portal arriving just in time to see the sunset.
Quickly making our way through the crowd I noticed it seemed a bit thinner than before.
'Must be because it's dinner time' I thought.
We arrived back at the apartment in a short amount of time and made our way through the door, dropping our gear wearily.
"Alright," Isabell said in a tired voice, "you all know the drill. Mick you follow me through the shower so I can check you. Everyone, else file through after him. We'll eat after that and then we'll go over everything."
After saying that everyone collapsed on furniture while Isabell went into the shower. Kate stood there for a moment looking awkward before finally finding a seat somewhere.
We filled through the showers but there were no serious injuries. Lots of bruises and scratches, a few stitches, and complaints about training restrictions later we were all sitting around clean, medically taken care of, and dozing off while eating some instant noodles.
As expected Kate has received no injuries but surprisingly enough she was also the most tired of the group. How do I know? Because she was the only one who fell asleep while eating.
After we had finished eating we decided we would split up the rewards in the morning. After all we still had to pay Kate and she was asleep, and none of us were rude enough to wake her up throw her money and send her on her way.
Even so we couldn't resist pulling out all the cores that had been collected to see the pile and check out final haul. All in all we made it out with 1 Lvl 4, 2 Lvl 3, 7 Lvl 2, 37 Lvl 1, 6 Lvl 0 Ethereal Cores!
This was an amount of cores we had never seen before and we drooled over our new horde of wealth feeling like tycoons. We put the cores into a safe spot so that no one could steal them while we slept and continued to chat with each other until everyone fell asleep.
As usual I was the last one to fall asleep and despite my tiredness sleep still eluded me.
I lay there with many things on my mind, I wondered what everyone got from all of their chests, I wondered what the dungeon store was, I wondered if we should increase Kate's pay since she actually had to fight, and I wondered if I had made the right choice in picking my reward from the chest.
We had all decided to wait and share our status and gains as well as refrain from look at each others status screens in the party display until tomorrow after we absorbed the cores and everyone was done. We also wanted to wait until Kate had left as though she had given us no reason to distrust her the relationship was still to new to allow her to learn everyone's secret strengths in detail.
I lay there allowing my mind to wander and listened to the chirping insects outside when a crazy thought entered my mind.
'I've only ever tried to absorb creatures that are animal like but I wonder if I can shapeshift into other things? Like insects, if I smash a mosquito can I absorb it's blood essence, but that brings up questions about can mosquitoes and such level up. What about plants? What about people?'
While I had no intentions of killing anyone to perform the experiment it did make me curious. Maybe tomorrow I would have to try smashing some ants or picking some flowers and trying to absorb Blood Essence from them.
From there I fell asleep to a mix of dreams from being chased by evolved swarms of mosquitoes and plant monsters to being a literal fly on the wall. The weirdest part though was sometimes I would be in an unfamiliar human body but I knew it was me.
