"Dark, giant, and ancient one," said Kier. There were rules when addressing these ancient terrors. 'Hey' wasn't a proper greeting for them. "Avert your wrath for a moment. I would speak with you."
The Shadow got down on one knee and looked at Kier with yellow, uncaring eyes. "I will have those who intruded into my cave," it said with a deep, raspy voice that seemed to echo off the woods all around.
Kier turned to look at Ina and shrugged. She shook her head resolutely. Kier's head and shoulders slumped as he sighed.
"I lament denying your request." Kier turned to the Shadow again. "Honestly, I do. But some people want to do things the hard way."
