Sarah stood there, jaw to the floor; she looked back into the hospital room directly at Alice, then back again to the door. "Mom, who's at the door?" asked Alice puzzled, everyone else in the room looked at each other back and forth trying to figure out who's at the door. No one saw the pain that crossed May's eyes, 'She so effortlessly calls her mom? How long has she known this woman that she would refer to her as mom so comfortably? How desperate was my daughter for a mother?' her thoughts spiralled, the guilt eating her up for not being there for her daughter.
