Captain Page recovers from the shock of seeing the new threat first.
"OPEN FIRE!" He screams and no sooner after follows the booming of cannon fire as each tank blasts the Omega Titan. With the debriefing beforehand, the tankers knew to target the joints on a Titan, rather than go for its armor. But apparently on this new Titan, that plan was moot as a protective armor covering rendered their attacks null.
Through the explosions, a giant metal foot comes out, landing on the nearest unfortunate tank. The sound of metal grinding screeches out as the tank begins to fold. In fear, the other tanks begin to retreat, never letting up on their attacks as the tank under its foot blows up. Uncaring of the surrounding explosions, the Omega Titan moves forward, following us as the turrets on its shoulders take aim.
From one rocket, another tank explodes, causing panic among our troops. The omnics capitalize on our confusion by collapsing on our sides as the Omega Titan pushes straight towards us. I change my communications from the one we're currently using as it is just cluttered with various people making calls overlapped by those in panic. The one that the Canadian army uses was much clearer.
Instead of a coordinated retreat, there is nothing but chaos, as the tanks scramble to back away from the Omega Titan, not caring for the AFV's behind them. Sojourn's AFV was no exemption, as the Omega Titan's waist mini guns began firing on them. I watch as Noah pushes Sojourn out of the AFV along with himself in time for bullets to riddle their vehicle.
Sprinting forward and drawing my katana, I rush to their defense, deflecting any bullets that get too close to them. I continue to protect them as they slowly get up and look around at the destruction as we back up out of the line of immediate fire.
Without facing Sojourn, I mindlessly say, "Watch, somehow Campbell is going to make this your fault."
Only when I turn around and see the slightly sad look in her eyes do I realize that I pulled a S3bastian and made an insensitive joke. "Sorry." She nods her head in response.
"This mission is a disaster, there's no way we're entering the omnium with that thing in the way." Sojourn consigns.
On my radio, I hear Jack asking if anyone is on this frequency. Telling Sojourn to change from the chaotic channel she's currently on to the Canadian one, Jack begins to tell us his plan.
"The mission isn't a failure yet. We take a heron, flank towards the side, and come around that Titan, we can through their ranks and enter the omnium. Running the numbers, it seems only three of us would be able to enter, though..." He trails off as they all begin to think on who would go.
Before anyone could deviate from the plot line, I hurriedly say, "You, Sojourn, and Mina. I can easily find another way in and regroup."
Sojourn shakes her head, "I should stay behind. I can't leave my men to deal with this thing."
Jack rejects her, "The only way you can hope to save them is in there. If we don't act, we are going to be overwhelmed by the omnics within the hour. Our troops have their mission. We have ours."
After thinking about it for a second, Sojourn sighs, agreeing to go. I admire both of them as we prepare everything at the fact that neither of them even questioned if Mina should be going. Taking a heron siege and mounting it on an AFV, everyone took a second to mentally prepare themselves for what might be potentially our last moments.
"What's your game plan on entering the omnium?" Sojourn asks.
"I'm just going to walk through the door after you guys." I simply say.
I watch their face as they both go to call me out on that then pause as they realize that I'm capable of it and slightly smirk. As Jack cranks up the AFV, I call out to them, "Good luck."
"We should be telling you that." Sojourn says and they shoot off towards the omnium. I watch as their vehicle avoids the Omega Titans focus entirely, plunging itself into the ranks of the omnics assaulting our troops to the right. The heron has no problem dropping any omnics that the AFV nears as Jack swerves their vehicle to the left, towards the giant omnium doors.
Once they get close enough, I begin my own advance towards the omnium doors. I slightly move my head from side to side as bullets whiz past me, but I'm not too bothered by their fire. I didn't have anything to worry about unless it was a missile, and even then, I could dodge that and evade its blast radius.
Sensing their approach, the doors to the omnium begin to close, causing Jack to speed up the vehicle so they can make it in time. I slow down, as I know that I won't make it. I was faster than a normal person, but slower than a vehicle, it seems. When I remembered to, I should clock my speed.
As their vehicle disappeared behind the imposing omnium doors, I spied a maintenace assess door that I entered the omnium through. It takes me no time whatsoever to sense their bioelectricity through the immense emptiness. They were huddled behind machinery while waiting for me, and due to my Shimada training, I easily snuck up behind them.
"The doors closed behind us and I didn't see him come in, you think he's ok." Mina asks with worry in her voice.
"Nah, he died." I reply, scaring them.
[A/N: My sickness almost sent me to the Gulag. I'm wayyy better now. Good thing too, cause I'm at 1k total collections on this story. From now on I'm going to start the story off with a shoutout to who sends powerstones.]
