Su Han watched as Qiao Yushan left without even getting a chance to speak. He slung his backpack over his shoulders and headed towards the Qiao's First Hospital.
During his five years in university, Su Han was mostly in a state of suspension as he studied medicine and martial arts with an old Taoist priest in the deep mountains. Because of this, he did not earn enough credits and was eventually expelled from school.
Even this internship was arranged through the old Taoist priest's connections. Su Han felt somewhat helpless, realizing that he had become a beneficiary of personal connections.
The Qiao's First Hospital was the largest private hospital in Tianhai City, well-funded and had abundant medical resources. It was one of the major industries under the Qiao's Corporation.
Qiao Yushan was the current president of the Qiao's Corporation. Under her leadership, the Qiao's Corporation had achieved remarkable success in the field of medicine.
However, to her, the most disappointing thing was having a marriage agreement that she could not reject. Moreover, her partner was someone who had not even graduated from university.
After arriving at Qiao's First Hospital, Su Han inquired about the location of the Human Resources Department from a few people before finding it.
Director Liu Cheng, who was sitting in the office, burst into laughter as soon as he heard Su Han introduce himself and mention that he hadn't graduated from university. He merely glanced at the recommendation letter before casually tossing it aside.
"Since you were recommended by the Qiao family, we naturally have to arrange a position for you." Liu Cheng narrowed his eyes and stared at Su Han. He tapped his fingers on the desk and said, "However, even our nurses at Qiao's First Hospital are required to have at least a bachelor's degree. This puts me in a difficult position with you."
As he spoke, disdain filled his eyes. What level of competence could someone have who got in through connections? Thinking of becoming a doctor? Dream on!
Su Han remained calm and didn't say anything, realizing that Director Liu didn't seem inclined to arrange a position for him. After all, he hadn't graduated from university. Even if he had studied medicine with the old Taoist priest for five years, he could not prove anything.
"How about this? There is a vacancy at the reception desk in the lobby. Would you mind starting there for now?" Director Liu chuckled, revealing his teeth. With a sneer in his eyes, he continued, "It's always a good thing for young people to gain some experience. You know, numerous people are eyeing the position at the reception desk!"
Su Han could tell that Director Liu was simply trying to brush him off. Without saying anything more, he nodded. "Alright, I'll take the receptionist position. Thank you, Director Liu."
The old Taoist priest had arranged for him to come here for an internship. If he quit, he would definitely get scolded by that old fellow when he returned. Although his current strength had already surpassed that of the old man, he couldn't afford to fight him.
Seeing that Su Han didn't get angry, Director Liu couldn't help but look down on him even more. He thought to himself that if he were to arrange for Su Han a position that required technical skill, he might not be able to handle it either.
"It seems this kid still has some self-awareness," Director Liu thought disdainfully. He then haphazardly stuffed the recommendation letter into an envelope and called for someone to bring Su Han to complete the procedures.
After obtaining a work uniform from the logistics department and submitting the necessary documents to the processing officer, Su Han spent the whole morning running back and forth, finally completing all the formalities.
In the afternoon, a man in a nurse's uniform appeared at the entrance of the hospital's reception hall. Su Han stood in front of the reception desk, watching the patients come and go, feeling somewhat at a loss.
"New here?" The few young nurses standing at the side looked at Su Han in surprise and could not help but chuckle. "When did we get a male nurse?"
"I'm not a nurse, I'm an intern doctor." Su Han replied somewhat sheepishly, nodding and offering a smile. Glancing around, he noticed that the reception desk seemed to be staffed entirely by female nurses. As a tall man standing among them, he couldn't help but feel a bit out of place.
"A doctor? Since when do doctors work at the reception desk?" A charming young nurse covered her mouth and giggled. Seeing that Su Han was fair and clean, and looked refined, she had a good impression of him. She said, "You're new here and unfamiliar with the receptionist's duties. Why don't you stand aside and observe for a while?"
Su Han nodded gratefully and exchanged smiles with the small group of nurses.
Working at the reception desk wasn't overly complex, but it required considerable patience and maintaining a calm demeanor while addressing patients' inquiries and facilitating them to seek medical treatment.
After some time, Su Han gained a grasp of the workflow and responsibilities and became acquainted with the nurses.
"I really didn't expect that you're really here to be an intern doctor. But you haven't even graduated from university." A young nurse asked in surprise. How could someone become a doctor without even completing their studies?
Su Han could only offer a wry smile. He had no idea how to answer such a question.
"Alright, stop teasing him. He just graduated and needs our support," The charming young nurse said with a soft laugh, her demeanor pure and captivating. This prompted the other nurses to jest, suggesting that she might have taken a liking to Su Han.
As they continued their conversation, a loud shout suddenly echoed from the entrance.
"Make way! Clear the path!"
A few people rushed in, pushing a stretcher bed. They were led by a middle-aged man who, judging by his attire and demeanor, held a position of authority. Despite exuding an air of leadership, he currently wore an expression of anxiety and nervousness as he focused on the elderly person lying on the bed.
"Dad! Dad! Hold on, everything will be fine. You'll pull through!" The middle-aged man grabbed the old man's hand and called out, "Where's the doctors? Call the doctors over!"
Su Han observed as they swiftly transported the old man into the emergency room. Soon, Director Liu and the hospital's administrators arrived. They also invited the two most renowned senior professors in the hospital.
Outside the emergency room, the middle-aged man paced anxiously, burdened by self-blame and guilt.
Glancing from a distance, Su Han couldn't hold back his curiosity and inquire, "Who is that person? Why is there such a commotion that even the hospital administrators have come?"
Lowering her voice, the charming young nurse explained, "I heard that the old man served in the military when he was young. He killed countless enemies on the battlefield and was a hero who fearlessly faced the muzzle for the country. But in his later years, he's burdened with injuries and ailments. It's quite pitiful to see."
Su Han's heart trembled.
Someone who fearlessly confronted the muzzle for the sake of their country? This was truly a hero! Such a person was worthy of his admiration and respect!
Before Su Han could react, the voice of the middle-aged man resonated from the emergency room, "What? You're saying you can't save him? Repeat that again!"
Director Liu, being firmly grasped by his collar, dared not resist and could only offer an awkward smile. "I'm truly sorry. The two senior professors from the hospital have already intervened, but..."
Director Liu was currently in turmoil. Failing to save the elderly man, if the middle-aged man were to become enraged, their hospital would likely face severe consequences.
The hospital administrators standing by remained silent, leaving Director Liu to hold the fort. The two senior professors also wore expressions of helplessness. At this point, even they were powerless.
The middle-aged man's eyes were red. He suddenly turned around and knelt down towards the entrance of the emergency room.
"Dad! I'm sorry!"
This single act of kneeling startled both the hospital administrators and Director Liu. It was evident that the middle-aged man, by doing so, acknowledged the reality and would, at least, not pursue any further blame on the hospital.
"Let me give it a try."
Suddenly, a gentle voice sounded. Su Han walked over and stood before the middle-aged man, slightly looking down at him. "I can save him."
