Chapitre 7: New Members of the Orphanage

A week had passed since we had recorded 'A Million Dreams' and just like he promised, Jackman posted about the song as soon as he arrived at his hotel. People all over the world were curious about the song that we had recorded, but he didn't give anything away.

He mentioned that one of the other singers wrote the song, which meant that he did indeed mention I wrote the song, but not in the way I had hoped. People would probably assume that Ms. Portman, being the other adult singer, was the one who wrote the song and just had me sing it with them.

I stopped thinking about it after a while, thinking that maybe if people thought it was Ms. Portman, then discovered it was actually me who wrote the songs it would have a bigger impact.

I ended up going back to Mr. Gram to help me with publishing the song, something that he happily agreed to do. I was really happy to have someone like him to help me, I doubt I could have done most of this without his support.

Everyone was expectant for the release of the song, people around the world were waiting by their computers to listen to something that a famous actor had helped with. When it was finally released everyone had overwhelming reactions.

[This song is incredible!]

[I've never heard anything so melodious.]

[I can't believe that that woman wrote something like this.]

[Are you saying women can't write good music?]

[Everyone knows what he meant!]

As I thought, people were thinking that Ms. Portman wrote the song. I didn't bother trying to correct them and just let them think what they wanted, it would make people crazier when they found out it was actually me.

I also hadn't forgotten about that villain attack in Cuba, there hadn't been much news about it even though they said they would update us. From what I have seen though, nearly 60 people died in that attack, mostly caught in the collapsing buildings.

There wasn't any update on that girl, I assumed and hoped that she was doing better after being taken hostage. I turned my attention back to the screen, looking at more of the responses to the video of the song.

[Wow, that kid has a future ahead of him.]

[No kidding, I haven't seen anyone that young sing so good.]

[Look at the band, don't they look similar to the boy as well?]

[Holy crap, you're right!]

[Are they sextuplets or something?]

I wonder what people would think when they find out that it's my quirk. I bet they'd lose their minds even more. Anyway, after seeing that everyone was receiving the song really well I decided that I should work on releasing some more songs.

I wouldn't post an album or anything, at least not yet, but I would post some of the songs that I had already written and performed. I just needed to have someone record them and then I could post them online.

Mr. Gram would probably be able to help me record the songs I've already written. That would give me 4 new songs and one already posted. It would also help Taylor get some recognition, her singing in one of the songs as well.

I would have to wait till school though, currently it's the weekend and I kind of want a day off. Unfortunately, I didn't quite get that. Ms. Portman walked into my room with a sort of glazed expression.

"Ms. Portman, are you okay?" I was worried, was this some sort of villain attack? Were me and the kids in any danger? After hearing me ask her a question, she regained the clarity in her eyes.

"Sorry, yes everything is fine. It seems that we'll be getting a few new children coming to the orphanage tonight. I was hoping that you could give me a hand with showing them around." This confused me, normally she wouldn't need help with this. She also wouldn't become so... lost after learning that more kids were coming.

"Sure, who told you that we would be getting kids soon?" It must have been the person who told her about the kids that made her that way.

"It was Star and Stripes." She blurted out without thinking. Now it was my turn to have that expression. Why would the No. 1 Hero in America be worried about giving kids to an orphanage?

Then it clicked, she was at the Cuba incident and there would probably be a few kids who lost their parents. They would also probably feel safe around the person who ended up saving them and stopping the villain from rampaging so they stayed with her.

"How long do we have until they arrive?" We needed to prepare, we needed to make their rooms, get food ready, inform the other kids. Without the proper warning we wouldn't be able to get everything in order.

"We have an hour." I could see some panic in her expression. There was no way she could get everything prepared in that time on her own. Good thing she didn't have to, I was here, and I'm practically a walking army.

I split into a dozen clones, all ready to help prepare for the new kids. "What do we need to do?" We all spoke at the same time. I swear we didn't even practice that, it was just natural.

When she saw that we were ready to help her, a smile broke out onto Ms. Portman's face. Instantly she got into serious caretaker mode, listing off things that needed to be done, things like getting rooms ready and preparing some food for them.

My clones split into groups and moved out to get the tasks done, Ms. Portman going with the cooking group to make sure that nothing was destroyed while they were preparing the food.

After an hour of preparing, finally we had gotten the rooms ready and there was food ready to be served if needed. In a few minutes a new group of kids would be walking through our door and welcomed to the orphanage.

After the short wait, a knock was heard from the front door. My clones had all merged back with me so it was just me and Ms. Portman waiting for the kids. We walked to the door and opened it, expecting to see some suited man with the kids behind him like other times kids were delivered to us.

Instead, standing past the door was the buffest woman I had ever seen. Standing at a towering 6 foot 4 inches with incredible blond hair was Star and Stripes herself, Cathleen Bates, with a bunch of kids behind her. I even noticed that girl from the villain attack was holding onto her pants and hiding behind her legs.

"Hey there! I'm here to deliver those kids I told you about on the phone." There was a huge grin on her face as she spoke, but me and Ms. Portman were too stunned to answer back. Probably used to this sort of reaction, Star just walked into the building with the kids walking behind her.

We finally regained our composure and introduced ourselves. Or at least we tried to, she already seemed to know us. "I saw that song you two were in, it was incredible. I can't believe you wrote a song that great."

She was speaking to Ms. Portman, who didn't know what to do at the moment. Not only was the No. 1 in the same room as her, but she was also complimenting her, even if she didn't deserve it. As soon as that shock passed, she cleared her throat and clarified something.

"Actually, I wasn't the one who wrote the song. Shawn here actually wrote the song himself." She rested her hand on my shoulder and smiled as she spoke.

Now it was Star's turn to be stunned. She turned her attention to me and began to look me up and down. Eventually she seemed satisfied and began laughing at the top of her lungs.

"Seriously? That's incredible! No one would guess that this kid here wrote a song that good on his own. It must've taken him years to come up with something like that." She pat me on the shoulder as her grin widened.

"Thanks, but it actually didn't take too long to come up with it." I rubbed the back of my head in embarrassment of the compliment. I appreciated it, but I actually didn't do much other than write down someone else's idea.

"Actually, why don't you sing one of your songs for the kids here? I'm sure that they'd love to hear one of your songs." Ms. Portman suggested, and I looked at the kids. They all seemed curious as to what we were talking about, and I didn't mind performing another song.

"Sure, I had another song I wanted to play anyway." I made my way up to stage and split into my clones, each heading toward an instrument or the microphone.

"So that's why there were so many of you, they were your clones weren't they?" I nodded my head at Star's deduction. Other people may have thought of me as a sextuplet or whatever, but it was only my quirk.

"Ladies and gentlemen, for your consideration, 'I'm yours'."
