Li Xuan listened attentively, her curiosity piqued by Li Ming's plan. She recognized his clear vision and expertise, instilling confidence in the potential success of their collaboration.
"By the way, how do you suggest we proceed with today's operation?" Li Xuan inquired, eager to delve into the practical details.
Li Ming pondered for a moment before responding, "Since I'm not familiar with the area, I'll need your help. Show me the places where you previously extracted oil so we can utilize those reservoirs while I create a geological map of the rock formations to find more reserves."
Understanding the responsibility bestowed upon her by her father, Li Xuan assured him, "My father has given me the authority to make a decision for anything related to this collaboration, so feel free to communicate your needs. I'll do my best to provide everything you require."
Li Ming's next question revealed his desire for innovation. "Speaking of which, how is oil typically used here? Since I'm planning to introduce new ways of using oil, it would be more advantageous to introduce new applications rather than replicating existing ones."
Li Xuan recalled her research from the previous night and replied, "In our region, oil is primarily used for lubrication, heating, lighting, and ceremonial purposes."
Li Ming's eyes sparkled with ideas as he raised two fingers, proposing, "In that case, let's introduce two new uses: Medicine and Preservation."
Li Xuan's interest was piqued by the possibilities. "Medicine and Preservation? Tell me more."
Li Ming continued, "By extracting the desired components from the oil and purifying it through a filter, we can mix some herbs and make some ointments that can aid in treating ailments and reducing inflammation.
"As for the preservation, I don't know if you are aware of it, but if you try to mix oil and water, they won't mix no matter what, right? By taking advantage of this character and coating materials with it, these materials can be protected from moisture, decay, and insect infestation."
Li Xuan's eyes widened with excitement, recognizing the potential for significant revenue. However, mindful of maintaining a professional demeanor, she restrained her enthusiasm, determined to establish trust before fully exploring the possibilities.
Impressed by Li Ming's ideas, Li Xuan suggested, "These ideas are fantastic, and I'd like to implement them as soon as possible. How about I return to the mansion to gather manpower while you discuss the details with the craftsman? Rest assured, the Li Clan's support will ensure your words are taken seriously."
Satisfied with the plan, Li Ming agreed, acknowledging the need for additional assistance. They soon arrived at the blacksmith's shop, where Li Xuan guided him inside.
"Miss Li Xuan," the young clerk greeted them, slightly flustered. "May I inquire about the purpose of your visit to our smithy?"
Eager to meet Elder Han, Li Xuan asked, "Is Elder Han available?"
"Yes, Elder Han is currently in the workshop. Shall I inform him of your arrival?" the clerk offered.
Before the clerk could act, an aged voice resonated from the workshop door, surprising them all. "Miss Li, what brings you to my humble establishment? May I have the pleasure of understanding the purpose of your visit?"
Turning toward the source of the voice, Li Ming's attention was drawn to an experienced craftsman called Elder Han. The craftsman looked a bit old, in his fifties. Yet, his body retained a remarkable vitality that defied his age. His hair, once dark and vibrant, had now embraced the hues of silver, adorning his head in a salt-and-pepper crown. Yet, there was an undeniable strength that emanated from him, as if the years had only served to further fortify his resolve and sharpen his skills. His cropped hair was neatly trimmed, a practical touch that reflected his no-nonsense approach to life.
Li Xuan introduced Li Ming with a smile, then presented the drawing to Elder Han, saying, "Elder Han, allow me to introduce our esteemed guest from the Li Clan, Mr. Li Ming. We seek your expertise in assessing this drawing."
Even though Li Xuan was the young miss of a prominent clan, it seemed that this elder craftsman wasn't that bothered with her status. In fact, Li Xuan looked more polite to him.
Curiosity piqued, Elder Han accepted the drawing, examining it carefully. "Hmm... While I may not comprehend every detail in this drawing, I believe I grasp the essence of its purpose. Is this tool designed for digging the ground? It seems to require less effort than a shovel but the output will be smaller."
"Yes." Li Ming nodded while adding inwardly, "As expected of a craftsman, he understood it easily. I guess it won't be hard to explain the details to him either."
"Please make this tool, Elder Han. Our Li Clan will cover the expense. If you need further information, you can ask Li Ming about it. I'll have to leave for a moment." LI Xuan made an awkward smile that she couldn't entertain him the whole time.
Elder Han considered the commission, intrigued by the unique tool. "I see. In that case, I accept this task."
With a polite nod, Li Xuan bid them farewell and left the store, leaving Li Ming in Elder Han's capable hands.
Elder Han gestured toward the workshop door, inviting Li Ming to join him. "Shall we proceed to the workshop? You can clarify any confusing parts of the drawing there."
"Absolutely," Li Ming agreed, following Elder Han with a sense of anticipation.
Elder Han's blacksmith workshop stood strong and resolute, a bastion of metalwork and craftsmanship. The air was thick with the scent of hot metal, mingling with the earthy aroma of coal and the distinct tang of burning embers. The workshop was illuminated by the warm glow of the forge, casting flickering shadows across the space, creating an almost mystical atmosphere.
"Alright. I'll try making the beam first and I'll begin asking you about the details later. You can come over, but don't bother me too much. If you want to wait, you can stand on the corner. Anyway, it's quite simple, so it shouldn't take too much time."
