The carriage rolled forward at a steady pace as the unicorns pulled its weight on their sinewy white shoulders. The pure white creatures stood out in stark contrast against the drab black carriage which was completely bare save for the bells on its rear, which jangled as it picked up speed.

Xander was a bit surprised to see that this carriage didn't have a coachman, and the unicorns seemed to gallop on their own without needing any human intervention. He wondered whether Marvin was controlling them with his mind or if these beasts were more intelligent than the average equines.

The Meadow of Despair, as the name suggested, was bleak and cold, with blades of dry brown grass choking the ground. The sky was overcast with suffocating gray clouds, and the moon was barely visible amidst the blinking white stars that dotted the smoky canvas.
