Chapitre 16: Inner Fight
"Before you board the bus, are there any further inquiries you wish to make?" The lady inquired Sun Jing with a polite and almost endearing tone. Sun Jing, gazing at his abilities, then sought to clarify, "Excuse me, what does this '1/20' signify? Is it the number of times I have utilized this skill?" The lady chuckled and confirmed his assumption, "Yes, indeed. Once you've hit 20/20, a delightful surprise awaits you." Sun Jing recalled the moment when the lady had first mentioned the "Blocked" skill, which had surpassed all his expectations. As he glanced at his cross, he noticed that it was now encased in a fiery red energy that had formed a diamond-shaped shield by linking the cross's edges. With his level raised from 6 to 11, he had acquired five levels, bringing his actual level to 14, and his injuries had miraculously healed. Shao Qiang, witnessing Sun Jing's unlocking of a new skill and gaining five levels, was now boiling with fury. Hao Ren, taking advantage of the situation, managed to flee from Shao Qiang's grasp. As he approached Long Tao, his body radiated a glowing blue aura, enhancing his speed.
Long Tao awoke from his stupor, feeling dizzy and disoriented from the previous deafening roar. As he struggled to regain his bearings, he spotted the alligator king lying motionless on the other side of the arena. He rubbed his eyes to ensure he wasn't seeing things and realized that the king was indeed lying on the ground. "Brother Qiang, shall we conclude this battle?" Sun Jing inquired with a warm smile directed towards Shao Qiang. "Certainly, brother Jing." Shao Qiang responded with a calm demeanor, as his body glowed with a brilliant blue aura, sprinting towards Sun Jing with great speed. Hao Ren, on the other hand, utilized his "Boost" skill and hurled his cross at Shao Qiang, exclaiming "Enlarge!" as it drew closer to his target. However, Shao Qiang effortlessly deflected the incoming attack with his own cross.
As the fierce battle between Hao Ren and Shao Qiang raged on, the other participants had already concluded their respective fights. With astute strategy and teamwork, Yi Lin's team emerged victorious with ease, resulting in Yi Lin achieving a level-up to 10, while Yu Mu's level rose to 7. Similarly, Ya Hui reached level 9, and Mei Zhen ascended to level 6. Meanwhile, Jia Le's team also managed to overpower the alligator king, despite struggling initially to penetrate its formidable defense. With their triumph, Jia Le too attained a level-up to 10. However, another team had lost the battle, and were rescued by the guy. As they were about to depart, they chanced upon the ongoing altercation between Shao Qiang and Hao Ren. "Why are they fighting?" Yu Mu inquired with a puzzled expression.
As Long Tao regained his composure, he noticed that the alligator king had also risen to its feet. In a state of panic, he frantically lifted his cross, taking note of Sun Jing's new and improved cross design. "Brother Jing, what happened to your cross? Have you unlocked a new skill?" Long Tao asked eagerly, his excitement palpable. Sun Jing nodded in confirmation and responded, "You can unlock this too, it's an upgraded version of the 'Blocked' skill." "Really?" Long Tao exclaimed, envisioning himself wielding a cross that was just as impressive and brimming with red energy. Meanwhile, the alligator king remained oblivious to the situation, but it knew that Sun Jing was responsible for whatever had occurred. Fueled by anger, it charged towards Sun Jing at breakneck speed. Sun Jing chuckled and held his cross in front of his body, while Long Tao watched with bated breath. "Repel!" Sun Jing bellowed, as the alligator king swung its tail towards the cross. Upon contact, it was forcefully repelled to the far end of the arena yet again.
Long Tao was astounded by the sheer strength of the new skill. "So all you have to do is block 20 attacks to unlock this skill? I don't think I'll be able to do that anytime soon," he remarked. Sun Jing chuckled and pointed towards Shao Qiang. "Perhaps Brother Qiang can assist you with that," he suggested. However, Long Tao was unsure if he could block Shao Qiang's attacks. Then, Sun Jing gestured towards the alligator king, which had risen once again. Long Tao shook his head frantically and bolted towards Shao Qiang, calling out to him for guidance. "Brother Qiang, please guide me!" he yelled, positioning himself in front of Hao Ren.
The spectators were in awe of the power of Sun Jing's new skill, "Repel." They marveled at how it was much stronger than the "Pierce" skill that they saw earlier. As the crowd murmured amongst themselves, the guy seated in the audience spoke up to enlighten them. "He unlocked a new form of the cross," he explained. "It's called the shield form, and it's the easiest form to unlock at the early stage. All you need is the 'Blocked' skill. Your batch is really the weakest," he added, shaking his head in disappointment. The defeated team suddenly felt a glimmer of hope, as all four of them had taken the "Blocked" skill. They began to celebrate their potential to unlock the new skill, while those who hadn't chosen it regretted their decision. "But even if you have the skill, you might not have the chance to unlock it," the guy cautioned. "After this battle, you guys are on your own." He continued to watched the fight between Shao Qiang and Hao Ren with a thoughtful expression.
Long Tao was determined to unlock the "Repel" skill, and he threw himself into the fray to defend Hao Ren against Shao Qiang's relentless attacks. Despite his initial apprehension, Long Tao quickly found his footing and managed to block three of Shao Qiang's strikes, much to the amusement of Hao Ren. However, Shao Qiang was not amused; he was incensed that even the weakest member of their team was able to withstand his blows with the "Blocked" skill.
Meanwhile, the alligator king, still reeling from its encounter with Sun Jing, turned its sights on the trio and charged forward with ferocity. Hao Ren and Shao Qiang quickly evaded its onslaught, leaving Long Tao alone to face the beast. Undaunted, Long Tao brandished his cross and steeled himself for the inevitable impact. Long Tao closed his eyes as the alligator king swung its tail at him. To his surprise, when he opened his eyes, he realized he had managed to block the attack.
As Long Tao stood there in disbelief, he suddenly saw Sun Jing next to him, holding his cross in defense against the beast's tail. Long Tao was taken aback by Sun Jing's sudden appearance and kind offer to help him. Touched by Sun Jing's selflessness, Long Tao hugged him tightly, tears streaming down his face and staining Sun Jing's shirt. Sun Jing gently pushed him away and glanced at the audience stage, shaking his head as he saw the stunned faces of the crowd. "I guess it will be difficult to keep a low profile now," Sun Jing muttered to himself, a small smile playing on his lips. He chuckled as he watched Long Tao bravely chase after the alligator king. Then he joined in the chase. The crowd was left speechless, amazed by what they had just witnessed. Those who had the "Blocked" skill could only envy Long Tao and wished they could enter the arena and join in the chase.
Shao Qiang stepped forward, ready to intervene, but Hao Ren stood firmly in his path. The tension between them was palpable, but before things could escalate further, the guy spoke in a nonchalant tone, "I don't particularly mind if you two want to duke it out, but I'm not interested in expending my energy to prevent you from killing each other. Save it for after the battle. You have two minutes left." His words spurred the crowd into action, as they frantically rushed to purchase the paper lanterns. Meanwhile, Shao Qiang and Hao Ren both reluctantly put their fight on hold, turning their attention to Long Tao and Sun Jing's battle against the alligator king. The beast was in a frenzy, its frustration mounting as it realized that its attacks were being deflected by its opponents. Long Tao and Sun Jing, however, were grinning with anticipation, like hunters tracking their prey. Despite its attempts to roar, Sun Jing swiftly slammed his shield into the beast's head, stunning it before it could open its jaws.
As the time ticked down to less than a minute, Hao Ren took a bold move and raised his cross high above his head, "Enlarge!" the weapon grew three times its original size, now towering over the alligator king. With a fierce expression, he hurled the enlarged cross at the beast. However, the creature attempted to dodge, only to be met with Sun Jing's powerful blow from his own cross that knocked it unconscious. Despite the direct hit, the beast remained alive. Then, with a smirk on his face, Hao Ren activated his new skill, "Multiply!" Suddenly, two more crosses materialized in the air above the beast and came crashing down, crushing its defenses. With the combined power of three enlarged crosses, they finally brought the battle to an end.
