Amelia was shocked. No one, not even the king dared to talk to him in such a vulgar way. She was sure Cassian would ask his knights to drag the girl to prison and behead her.
She looked at Mary with pity when….
"Yes, tell me what it is?" The words stunned her and her head snapped in the direction of Cassian to make sure she had heard right. He was not killing her? Nor punishing her but even listening to the rude woman in such a tender voice.
She never knew that Cassian could be this tender too. But it was not her illusion. It was really Cassian who was talking to this brazen woman. He was even staring at her with softness in his eyes.
Who in the world was that woman? She stared at Mary agin. Though the girl was pretty, there was nothing extraordinary about her. No matter how much Amelia started, she did not find anything special.
"Alec had made a crown for you. But that knight stopped us from entering and even scolded Alec. "He was calling him filthy." she complained as she pointed at the knight of Amelia who looked aghast.
"I did not! I was only trying to stop them since the woman was brazen and rude. Even now, she is insulting your highness. She should be sent to prison immediately." The thoughts that were going in the mind of everyone were spoken loudly by the knight who looked at Mary like she was a crazy woman.
But Mary stared back at him with more intensity as if her looks could kill him.
"Did you see that? He is still insulting me in front of you. Is that how you are going to take care of me?" she hurled as she glared at the knight who frowned.
"Your highness!"
"Enough!" his cold voice shut everyone's mouth and they stood straight.
"Lady Amelia, I have heard your request and I will work on it." He said in a calm but distant voice.
"is there anything else you need help with?"
She had just asked for tea and she was hoping to enjoy some tea time with him. She had worked so hard convincing her father to send him to the duke. This was so that she could leave an excellent impression on him and get a chance to show him how talented she was! But thanks to this woman..
When Cassian asked with so much pressure in his voice, Amelia could only shake her head.
"No, your highness. How could I dare waste your precious time without a reason?" She passed a quick glance to Mary but the girl was not even looking at her, which made her even more frustrated. "I shall leave then." She bowed her head and turned when Cassian called her again.
"Lady Amelia, your knight insulted my guests. I request you to leave him here or.. Punish him severely on your own accord since he is your knight." Amelia felt uneasy. She did not care much about the knight but punishing him for this woman showed that she held higher authority that unnerved her.
"Ah, I will inform my father about your request, your highness. "I did not have the power to make such a decision." she evaded the subject when the trembling knight finally felt assured, but Casi was not satisfied with the outcome.
He tilted his head to look at the knight who did not dare raise his head.
"Then I will write a letter to your father and do the appropriate thing. It is inappropriate for me to drag someone innocent into the situation. You should not worry about it, lady." What he meant was, he did not want to waste his breath on her since she did not hold any power.
Her hands held her dress tightly as she scowled at the woman who raised her head arrogantly.
"Your highness, shall I request you to introduce the woman before I leave?" she could not leave without knowing who this woman was and why she was gaining so much attention from Casi!
She could feel the threat but at the same time she was sure she had not seen this woman at any social gathering before.
"It is only to make sure that no one would disrespect her in the future." she added when she felt the eyes of Cassian turn colder and he did not seem to reply.
"That would not be needed. I will take care of that myself." He dismissed her as he walked back into his office and that woman and the child followed him without waiting for the invitation.
Amelia kept standing there and staring at the door closing. She felt like the door was closed on her face and could not help but grind her teeth at the insult.
"Shall I accompany you to your carriage, my lady?" She heard the knight speak and tried to force a smile on her face.
"That would not be needed, I shall leave then." She turned stomping her heels on the marbled floor with much force but even that was not enough to make her feel better.
"My lady.. My lady, I swear I never called her or the child by name. She is lying. She was so rude to the Lord and I..."
"Shut up!" she glared at the knight who stopped babbling instantly and bowed his head.
She asked, "do you think it would have mattered even if you would have insulted her in reality if not for your highness?"
She bit her nails as she thought about it again. "Who in the world was that woman?"
She stared at the knight with calculative eyes.
"Only I can save you now. If you want to live, try and find out who the woman is. If you did a good job, I will save you from the wrath of my father."
