As the clash of wood with mail echoed in his ears, Frederick was quick to release the lance; otherwise, he was brought down alongside the enemy. The thud echoed through the battlefield as Frederick's lance pierced through the enemy's armor, sending him crashing to the ground with wood in his chest.
