Alicia's lips had lost their color, and she shivered where she stood. Though it was April, with balmy breezes and sunny skies, she felt like she was standing in a frozen wasteland, chilled from head to toe. Her teeth chattered, and her heart felt heavy, making it hard to breathe.
Louis had sworn to keep his distance from Madelyn, but there he was, holding her close and helping her into the car. He looked frantic, like he was in a hurry.
Alicia stood in plain sight by the front door, and he hadn't even seen her.
"Mrs. Martinez, Mrs. Martinez?" Lucas hollered twice, but Alicia didn't react.
Lucas bent down to pick up her cell phone from the ground, checked it, and handed it to her. "Mrs. Martinez, your phone."
Alicia took it absently.
Lucas took in her expression and suggested, "Miss Monroe must be hurt, that's why Mr. Martinez is carrying her. I saw her with her eyes shut, and she seemed to be in pain."
Creation is hard, cheer me up!
