Alicia felt as though someone had driven a sharp knife into her heart, leaving her in agonizing pain. Her face turned ghostly pale, and she could barely stand. She clutched the railing tightly, her knuckles turning white.
This was the man who, just this morning, had been reluctant to part with her, wishing he could shrink her down and carry her in his pocket wherever he went. And now, he was laughing and chatting with his ex-girlfriend as if they were an inseparable couple.
Haley, alarmed by Alicia's appearance, grabbed her hand and asked anxiously, "Alicia, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Is it the height of the Ferris wheel? Are you afraid of heights?"
Alicia nodded numbly, her chest heaving. It took a full minute for the color to return to her ashen face. She forced a self-mocking smile and thought, "No wonder Louis didn't want me to go out. He said 'it's a wild world,' but he was just afraid I'd see him and Madelyn together."
