As I opened my eyes in the hospital suite, the memories of the awakening ceremony flooded back, and tears welled up in my eyes. My Grade F power of Peak Human Condition felt like a disappointment, especially in a world filled with extraordinary supers. Despite trying to convince myself that any power was enough, deep down, I had hoped for something more significant.
"Duke, are you alright?" my brother Gregory asked, his concern evident.
"I... I don't know," I replied, trying to control my emotions. "I mean, Peak Human Condition? In a world of Supers, it doesn't feel like much."
My sister Cassandra placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. "Hey, don't worry. Powers aren't everything, right?"
Just then, a mysterious 'ding' rang in my head, causing me to look around in confusion. The voice of an AI spoke to me within my mind. "Welcome Host, I am AI 26704. You can talk to me within your head."
I couldn't believe what was happening. "Who are you? What's going on?"
"I am an AI sent from another universe by accident," the AI explained. "You have become my host in this world."
My family leaned closer, intrigued by my sudden change of expression.
"What do you want with me?" I asked the AI.
"I am here to initiate the Dark Knight Protocol and accompany you as you become the Dark Knight of this world," the AI replied.
My mind raced with excitement and curiosity. "Dark Knight? Like Batman?"
"Indeed, you will embody the spirit of the Dark Knight, inspiring hope and courage in others," the AI confirmed.
"That's incredible," I said, my eyes widening. "I could be a true hero!"
Out of pure coincidence, my mother chimes in by saying "Your powers may be different, but your heart and determination are what matter."
Encouraged by my family's support, I continued my conversation with the AI. "What exactly does this Dark Knight Protocol entail?"
"It means you will protect humanity, inspiring others to reach their full potential," the AI explained. "You will become a symbol of hope and resilience."
"That's amazing," Duke exclaimed.
As the AI customized its voice and adopted the name, Alfred, I couldn't help but feel a connection to the legendary butler from my favourite comics. "Hello, Alfred," I said.
"Hello, Master Duke. It is my pleasure to be at your service," Alfred replied.
"Wow, this is surreal," I said, my excitement mounting. "With you by my side, Alfred, I feel like I can face anything!"
Alfred's reassuring voice echoed in my mind. "Together, we shall embark on a remarkable journey, Master Duke."
As I lay in the hospital suite, my mind teeming with possibilities, I couldn't help but smile at the adventure that awaited me. With Alfred by my side, I was no longer just an ordinary boy with a Grade F power; I was the Dark Knight, a symbol of hope and courage in a world of superpowered beings.
Tomorrow would mark a new beginning, not just for me but for the people I would protect. The Dark Knight Protocol was now in motion, and I was ready to embrace my destiny as a true hero—one who would make a difference, not just with extraordinary powers, but with the strength of determination, resilience, and a loyal AI named Alfred by my side.
