Nathaniel went silent as he looked at Maya.
This was a question he dreaded facing.
"I promised never to lie to you again," he said, his voice merely a whisper. It was clear that he was ashamed of what he had done.
"So how many?" Maya asked, her voice threatening to shake. He could see the pain in her eyes, but she would be a fool to think that he didn't try to move on from her.
"I tried to go on dates," Nathaniel admitted as he held the little boy in his arms closely.
He looked at the sleeping boy and frowned.
"Maya, is this the right time to talk about this?" Nathaniel asked. "What if we end up fighting? Gabriel is too innocent to hear all the words that you will throw at me, words that I deserve to hear."
"Nate," Maya reached out and held his hand and squeezed it gently. "I won't lie, I wish you didn't date anyone else, but I understand."
Nathaniel looked up at her, shocked by what she had just said.
