Left with no choice, Magdalene choosed to use the woods, that was only the fastest way to the Village or else she might spent a whole night on the road. She made a silent prayer, consoling herself that she would be alright.
She walked to the border of the town and began to go into the woods. Her heart pounded inside her chest because the further she went the more eerie the place became. She couldn't see the tall houses of the town any longer. The moon was the only source of light in the woods. She rubbed ur arms from cold , even her breath contained mist.
Suddenly a shadow in cloak speedily passed between the trees. She gasped in fright and hid herself beside a large tree. She could here light chatters that made her heart pound inside her chest. Brooms that held figures were flying all over the woods.
Magdalene eyes widened in horror and she bit her tongue so she doesn't scream. They were witches, she'd heard of them and know how terrifying they could be but seeing one in person was particularly shocking. indeed they were very ugly creatures, even though she couldn't see their features clearly.
They had white cracked skin , long nose , snake tongues, long rotten nails, and they wore the witches hat.
"There's nothing here" One of the witch said after looking around.
'I thought I heard something" Another one replied.
"Well if whatever you heard is true, then that thing isn't leaving here alive" A witch said and they all gave a wicked laugh.
Magdalene shut her eyes in fright, praying that she doesn't get caught, or there was no telling if she would be one of their meals.
"Quickly, get what we need and let's leave or else the mistress will be mad"
"Yes, she wanted the water hemlock. Did you see what she did to the human Litchis" The witch asked and they burst out laughing.
"Who knew it would actually work. She just wanted to try a new poisoning spell on fruits and those berries happened to be present. She didn't even know it would work and be that deadly. Too bad it doesn't work on pure blooded vampires."
"She's working on something that could affect them. But this poisoned Litchis do work on the half vampires, but their deaths are slower compared to humans. They start decaying before they die making it slow and painful but the humans die and decay".
"There's no way they'll be able to find a cure soon. If this continues, half of the human and vampire population would be gone, then we can deal with those stupid demons and good witches"
" Demons are another difficult creatures, the rogue ones are easy to tame but the Normal one's aren't easy at all".
"The mistress will sought it all out. We have to bring the plants for her next portion, for now let's watch them die miserably".
"Yes. But the first consumer of the berry is dead how did it spread so fast.".
"The stupid humans think that coming in contact with the sick person can make you have it, that's why the big town is so dull. But not at all, it's only when you come in contact with a dead infected body that's when you have it. And anyone who eats Litchis from the bush close to the moon waterfalls gets infected because that was where the mistress did the spell so it's all poisoned. Do you understand now dummy" The witch yelled.
They entered another round of laughter before flying away in their brooms.
Magdalene was shocked at this Discovery which they wouldn't have been able to figure out for a long time. Somehow this wood journey had been a blessing. She could only pray that she makes it out alive. She didn't dare come out of her hiding, in case there were any creatures or witches lurking somwhere.
After a while she came out of her hiding and continued her journey, she was extremely cautious throughout her walk. sometimes she would see shadow or figures but she'd never seen a thing. She could only pray that it was her own imaginations.
Heaven smiled on her when Magdalene began to see the small lights radiating from the village lanterns hanged around.
She hurriedly ran towards the village and made her way to the small cottage, close to the small river.
She knocked on the door hurriedly, she'd been scared the whole time so she didn't want to spend a minute outside any longer. After few knocks on the wooden door, Old granny finally opened the door.
"Magdalene!! you worrisome child" Granny yelled in anger.
"I'm so sorry granny" She said and made her way in.
The entire family except her mother were all in the living room.
"Sister, how are you? we were so worried. "Annabelle said in a red face and puffy eyes that shown she'd been crying. She genuinely loved Magdalene and had cried all night when she didn't return home.
Magdalene felt touched and reach for a hug.
"I'm fine. I'm sorry I made you worry" She apologized.
"Child, Be sure to always stay safe" Gaius told her and she nodded.
"What happened? why did you come home late?" Granny asked.
"There's a plague in town and it's killing people rapidly so there were no carriages, I had to come on foot" she explained.
"You could have spent the night in Gaius place, you know how dangerous it is in the night, with those creatures lurking behind" Granny reprimanded.
Magdalene bowed her head in apology before making her way to her room. Her mind was still troubled at the discovery, but it also pained her that her mom wasn't a bit concerned about her safety.
