My brother intended to save me. He took steps we hadn't discussed because he cared.

When he left Emory and Zara's room was still silent, he'd entered using the passageways, intending to be me. To check her bedroom. To see if she'd betrayed me. If the reason her room was silent because she'd curled up with fucking Fireknight.

Instead, he found an empty suit, the detritus of hurried packing and doors open from the sitting room into the Defender's alcove.

Neither of them were there.

He hurried back to my quarters where I sat with my head in my hands, Stark glowering at me. Erik tore through the room, hissing, "she's fucking gone—he's taken her!" as he ran through my rooms and out into the halls, to approach her as me, so I could order the guards to search when I "discovered" her disappearance.
