I blushed a little bit, mainly because the look of fierce approval in David's eyes threatened to shred my self control. I wanted to touch him so badly, I had to grip my hands at my waist.
The men laughed and mocked each other for a while, drawing attention from all over the room. But just as they finally quieted down we were called in to lunch.
Ash offered his arm—as all the Defenders did to the eleven Select still present—and led me into the Banquet Hall. David was gathered up by Stark, the two of them murmuring together as they walked just ahead of us. I couldn't hear anything they said over the rumble of the crowd and all the boots echoing on the floor.
"Very well done, Zara," Ash murmured under the noise in the room, squeezing my hand to his side with his elbow. "If you wanted attention from the right people, and to be known for your wit and intelligence, you did it."
