As the night slumbered, the skies above trembled in sadness. As a town was swallowed by tears and cries. For even their victory was a hollow one! For death was the only true winner that night! For as the crowd gathers in a deserted square, surrounded by dead and undead. A stolen hippogryph could be seen fleeing a storm that started on the ground, as the tree covered the rider's sight, the blindness that came with it, hid the backdrop of the watcher of the night as they fought for what was left!
As the rider on the hippogryph covered a sleeping weeping child from the rain pellets. The lightning flashes hid deep within the clouds, while their glow reflected itself onto the soft glimmering of her eyes, and with steel determination and hours of flight, they finally made it… They made it to Auberdine!
5 years later
In the meadows of Darkshore sat a child who was different than the others, for as he meditated in the center rock surrounded by trees and discarded ruins. His body shined in the glimmering radiance of the light, but while his light pulsated with warmth, the corruption of the land by his feet, burned away… to give way from its disgusting gray, to become rich soil! The trees that surrounded him grew twice the size of all the others and gone was its black tint that haunted the others!
As the elf children marveled at him, the adults feared him! For tho he is strong in his connection to the light, they feared the day, that he may fall to shadow! For the light and the void are but inches away from each other! Even more ironic here in Darkshore, where the corruption of the old ones can still be felt so strongly. And if their weakest druids could feel it, the laziest priest could hear it, then how much more is the call to one such as the boy?
[The boy's power grows…Cynthia] said a voice
[I know… Thundris… but I don't know what else to do…] replied Cynthia
[you need to find him a proper teacher for one] replied Thundris Windweaver
[sigh, that is easier said than done! I already tried asking Lady Tyrande… But you know what she said in return…] replied Cynthia
[Umm… I think I can guess…] replied Thundris with his hand on his chin in a thinking motion
[right, she said, "I understand he is a precious gift from Elune, but at the end of the day he is not an elf! To permit a non-elf entry into our most sacred temple is… sacrilege!". Can you believe that nonsense Thundris?] replied Cynthia
[yes, Cynthia I can… and I don't blame the lady one bit! Just try to look at it from her perspective. The boy's background is unknown, demons and undead tried to capture him, and to top it all off the boy is already powerful! If she allows him into the temple where the lure of gaining more power is at its highest for him… well, she fears he may repeat Illidan's mistake!] replied Thundris
[But he is just a child, Thundris! Now is the time when he's at his purest to gain it! He is not Illidan! If taught well I'm sure he can be better!] replied Cynthia, while Thundris shook his head at her.
[That's where you're wrong Cynthia… Your love for the boy might have blinded you to it… but to the rest of us, it's clear as day… that kid's mind is the furthest thing from the purity of a child! His eyes shine with the maturity of a man! Besides that, not the only thing the Lady fears...] replied Thundris
[theirs more?] asked Cynthia puzzled
[of course! We barely trust ourselves not to fall into corruption, let alone other species! Just look around at the Furblog and the Moonkins! They were once peaceful beings we shared our lives with! But now they are nothing but raving monsters without a thought of their own! Lost into the deep whispers of the land!] replied Thundris with a downcast expression
But then he looks up at the sound of ghostly howls that approach from the surrounding woods!
[Cynthia, this is another good reason he is not allowed inside! His light attracts not only the living but the damn and the demonic! Sentinels into formation! Protect the children!] yelled Thundris
But as the ghost of past elves rushed the line of sentinels, the little boy opened his eyes! And with them, the undead froze on the spot, and like a chorus of singers, the banshee ghost stopped and listened as they heard the sounds of chiming bells calling for them! As the light stripped them of their horrid form, like peeling-away dry leaves.
What stood there now covered in light were the souls of elves now in their former form! With a smile on their face and a curtsy bow, the souls finally found rest, as the light took them home.
As the boy got down from his pedestal, the very ground on which his paw print left, lit up like shining sands, with eerie bright eyes, that shocked Thundris, the boy spoke in a loving warm voice that seemed out of the ordinary:
{Cynthia!} The boy called, for he knew she wasn't his mom, only a caregiver.
[yes... Lanthios…] replied Cynthia in a daze
{I'm hungry! And when can you find me a paladin teacher? I feel myself reaching the wall…}
[A paladin? Didn't you want to be a priest? Why the sudden change?] replied Cynthia
{umm. I can't tell her I always wanted to be a paladin… I only suggested priest before because it is better than learning nothing, as far as the light is concerned, but seeing as that bitch Tyrande is hell-bent on getting in my way!} thought Lanthios as serval scenes of Tyrande catching him trying to sneak into the temple or his attempts to coke the temple priest into trying to teach him, filled him with rage.
As his mind calmed down, he prepared his excuse:
{If the temple of Elune won't have me, then I must seek out another who will! I don't want to be stagnant in my growth anymore! Besides, as I grow older my body will naturally be more fit for a paladin role anyway than some priest.} said Lanthios with a bright smile.
This, this right here is what caused Thundris to fear the boy, for what child speaks would like this!
[Innocent of a child! Blah! The kid is a monster in waiting! But then again, a monster isn't always a bad thing… depending on how it is used…] thought Thundris seriously for a moment as he weighs the pros and cons.
[sigh, I will try to find you one when you are a bit older Lant… right now you are way too young for that kind of training… Maybe when you are ten, we can talk about it again… Now pack up your things! we're going back to Darnassus for lunch!] replied Cynthia
{Ok... Cynthia} replied Lanthios sadly
But as he went to grab his things, Thundris quietly whispered to Cynthia:
[Are you really going to find him a paladin teacher? You know how the human can be Cynthia!]
[I know, I won't be sending him to study in Stormwind. Trust me, I know just how much the humans dislike Gnoll very well… they would rather remove his head than ever teach him a thing.] replied Cynthia seriously
[then what are you going to do? Hire a passing adventure or something? You do know even adventuring paladins have a strict code!] replied Thundris
[don't worry Thundris, I will figure something out! I always do after all! Besides I thought you didn't really care for him. So, why the sudden interest in his teacher?] replied Cynthia with squinted eyes
[Hey just because the boy is "different" doesn't mean I don't have some interest!] replied Thundris awkwardly
[Is that so…] said Cynthia before continuing
[If that is the case! Do you mind helping me by putting in a good word now and then? After all, any recommendation from you is worth its weight in gold] replied Cynthia
[ok, ok you win I'll ask around when the time is right! I do happen to know some retiring paladin that might help.] replied Thundris nodding
{Cynthia… let's go!} cried Lanthios
[coming!] yelled back Cynthia as she approached the boy to say:
[Don't look so down Lanthios, I'll ask around some priest on their pilgrimage to help teach you in the meantime! How does that sound?]
At her word, Lanthios's eyes shone like gems with anticipation, while Thundris's eyes darkened, and thought to himself:
[every sense that boy got here, the environment seems to be slowing healing, but why does the town atmosphere feel so heavy… So, eerie… maybe it's just me but that child… No, that gnoll acts' to human sometimes… Maybe I should consult Malfurion about this.]
Don't worry, what happened in the town will get explained later, when the MC arrives in the town when his older.
