I squirmed, shifting to a side position with the intention of hugging Richard, but I didn't feel his presence. I opened my eyes, glancing around the dimly lit room with only the bedside lamp turned on.
"Where is Richard?"
I sat up immediately, looking around and noticing the door to the balcony was open. I saw Richard standing with his back towards me, apparently talking to someone on the phone.
"I'm so dizzy!"
I lay back down, massaging my forehead due to the headache. After coming back from the club, I slept with Richard right away, but now he's awake just to talk to someone on the phone. I know he hates being disturbed while sleeping, so who could be calling him so that he's not too lazy to answer?
Curious, I got up from the bed and walked slowly towards the balcony.
"Don't do that, it's too risky!" I heard Richard's voice, and I continued to approach, but I decided to stop near the door, and he still didn't notice my presence.
"You just need to make things difficult for them. I don't want any criminal activity... it can damage my reputation!" Richard spoke with a firmer voice, making me even more curious.
"Okay..." Suddenly, Richard ended the conversation and turned around to face me, and my heart jumped. I was scared, and his gaze made me afraid as it did when we first looked into each other's eyes.
"What are you doing?" he asked, furrowing his brow and approaching me slowly.
"Um... I just wanted to get some fresh air... yeah, that's it."
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah..."
"But it's too cold tonight," Richard said, then gave a thin smile. That smile was strange like he was making fun of me for not being able to lie. For some reason, I suddenly felt like he was the evil Richard that always had to be careful of.
"Baby..." He suddenly caressed my cheek with a warm smile. "Don't be afraid... why do you look at me like that?" he asked with a slight chuckle.
"Oh, it's nothing..." I looked down. "I'm just afraid you'll get angry because I'm eavesdropping on you."
"So what did you hear?" he asked casually.
"I didn't hear anything except you saying you want to make things difficult for them... who do you mean by them?" I dared to ask.
"No one in particular," Richard replied, then reached for my hand and led me to the fence.
I looked down towards the river, afraid he might suddenly push me because he was angry that I was eavesdropping on his conversation. I don't know why it's so hard to get rid of this fear, and his strange behavior always reminds me that he's the person who has problems with my sister.
'Could he just be good for a moment and then want to hurt me as a retaliation for his hurt feelings towards my sister?' I thought, suddenly feeling weak and trembling. Even my hands were cold and sweaty.
"I have an enemy in my business... they causing a little trouble, so I don't want to let that happen again," Richard said with his baritone voice, looking forward. I looked at him, and he smiled. "You should know that your husband has a firm attitude. Your husband won't let anyone ruin or disturb his life and the people around him, including his business..."
"So what are you going to do to them?" I asked.
Richard looks ahead again. "I just want to make them suffer, and no one can save them except me. They will come to me and beg for help," he says with a thin smile.
"Is it worth it for what they did to you?"
"Of course."
"How much money did you lose because of their actions?" I ask again.
"A lot, to the point where I will never forget it. They will always be the people I hate the most in this world, and I won't let them be happy!" Richard answers emotionally, making me wonder who they are that made him so angry.
"Could it be Irina and Ferdinand? Is it possible that Richard still harbors feelings for them and now wants them to suffer? Or maybe they are just business rivals?' I wonder to myself because I don't dare to express my curiosity to him. He is too dangerous and I always remember that my mum wants me to be careful.
"Let's go to the room!"
I snap out of my reverie, quickly following Richard back to the room. I close the door again, then walk to the bed where Richard is sitting comfortably, looking at me. I immediately look down while walking, his gaze is really strange, making me too afraid to look back at him.
"Come here..."
Richard pulls me, sitting me on his lap in a tilted position. He tilts his head to look at me, his hand slowly stroking my hair.
"Why do you look so scared?" he asks.
"It's okay," I answer anxiously.
"Don't you believe me?"
"No... I mean, I believe you," I say nervously, then look at him. "I just don't understand... who are they? Why do you hold such a big grudge against them when they are just your business competitors, not people who ruined your life..."
"Daisy..." Richard sighs.
I stay quiet, waiting for his explanation.
"I can't get rid of the hatred for those who have disturbed me... even if it's not about my personal life, I will still hate them," he says softly, seriously. "And actually, the company or business is also part of my life. I worked hard to build my career until I could achieve success, of course, I don't want to fall because of them. And I won't let them be at ease until they apologize to me!"
"Okay..." I sigh. "You don't have to explain it again... I understand."
"Do you think they are Irina and Ferdinand?" Richard asks.
I furrow my brow. "Why do you say that?" I ask back, pretending to be surprised.
"Because they also made me angry," Richard answers. He moves me away from his lap, then stands up and walks a step away from me.
I stay quiet, waiting for him to say more.
"They are very difficult to forget because their actions made me angry, embarrassed, humiliated..." Richard says firmly, then turns to look at me. "But I don't want to retaliate against them..."
I stay silent, looking at him.
"Before, I thought about finding out about them, planning to catch them and punish them, but after I felt comfortable with you, I gave up all my plans!" he says again. "For me, there's no point in holding a grudge against them. I can't hurt them when they are also part of your life... I'm not that cruel, my love!" he adds, then squats in front of me, grabbing my hand.
I swallow saliva, looking at him seriously, trying to guess if he's telling the truth or just trying to deceive me so that I won't suspect him.
"I want to be honest with you now," he said.
"What?" I asked softly.
"I love you..."
"Love?"
"Yeah..." Richard smiled warmly, then stroked my left cheek. "I feel comfortable with you, and I've realized that I love you...this honeymoon has made me realize how attractive you are, how you behave according to my wishes...you're kind, you never hurt me, and you even made me the first man in your life...it's truly an honor, and I know you deserve to be loved," he continued.
I smiled faintly, blushing at his words. I don't know why, but I can't be cautious with these feelings. I don't know if he's telling the truth or lying, but his words always manage to break down my defenses, especially since he fought to defend me tonight. Could it be that I already love him? And will I not be hurt by this love? I can't forget that he was the man who once wanted my sister so badly, and I'm afraid he might want her again someday.
