Chapitre 22: Bell Tower Adventures Wrapped Up

Ditto, having transformed into a Gastly, wrapped its tongue around Machop's eyes, preventing it from using the powerful move "Foresight." Fighting-type moves were ineffective against Ghost-type Pokémon.

Once again subdued by Cain, Raikou found itself in a difficult situation, standing helplessly in place as fear escalated.

"Get out of here."

Cain didn't need to say much to Raikou, for the fact that he still dared to have evil intentions showed that Cain's power wasn't yet enough to deter him.

Ditto flicked its tongue like a long whip, striking Machop and hurling it towards Raikou, sending them both crashing to the floor below.

Cain then picked up Gastly's Poké Ball and began to head downstairs.

The Ghost-type Pokémon, having learned their lesson from Cain, didn't cause any more trouble, making the descent much smoother.

Upon reaching the ground floor, Cain checked the time and saw it was only 2 PM, but unfortunately, it was not time to leave yet.

He sat down on the floor. Although the tower was dusty, it was already a decent shelter for someone like him who had been surviving in the wilderness for years, so he wasn't picky.

Both he and Ditto had used up a considerable amount of energy, so they took out food from their backpacks.

Cain ate two pieces of bread, while Ditto's food remained the same – liquid milk.

As for the Gastly family, there had always been a saying: Gastly would first paralyze their opponents with their tongue, then drain their life energy. Some would enter people's dreams to scare them to death and consume their dreams.

Survival of the fittest.

In ancient times, both Pokémon and humans would hunt each other. However, in modern times, a large number of researchers and breeders had developed various types of Pokémon food, energy cubes, and Poké Puffs.

These foods naturally tasted much better than the primitive ones, so the Pokémon that entered human life abandoned their original habits and mainly consumed the food made by humans.

The recently captured Gastly was very weak, so Cain released it and used some healing medicine.

"This will restore your strength."

Cain placed a Sitrus Berry in front of Gastly.

Gastly cautiously took a bite, chewed it, and quickly spat it out with a pained expression.

"If you don't like Sitrus Berries, try some milk."

Not eating that either?

"Serves you right for being so weak."

Cain glared at Gastly and returned it to its Poké Ball.

Picky eaters would starve in the wild. To survive, when life is in danger, even wild vegetables and leaves can stave off hunger, this applies to Pokémon and humans alike.

It seemed that Cain would have to find suitable Pokémon food for Gastly after they left. If it wasn't for the Gym providing food and lodging, this would be a significant expense.

As Cain hesitated, he suddenly heard a commotion.

It came from the west gate.

Cain followed the noise and saw two other boys who had advanced to the top four, gesticulating and performing embarrassing actions.

These two already knew each other and had planned to team up, but they were both trapped here.

A group of Gastly and Haunter circled around them.

Cain was speechless. They had been unable to escape the illusions of the ghost Pokémon since morning. How poor must their judgment be?

Without intending to pay them any attention, Cain turned to leave.

On second thought, "That brat, Raikou, dared to attack me. Now that I have caught a Gastly, with my keen sense of battle, I am confident in winning. Why not help them catch a Gastly? If Raikou fails to catch a Pokémon, he will be eliminated, and he won't be able to blame me."

Cain sneered, "Ditto, transform into Machop and use Foresight."

Ditto had mastered this move and quickly transformed into Machop. Its eyes shot out beams, revealing the hidden Gastly.

The two boys also began to regain their senses, looking dazed.

Cain paid no attention to them, letting the transformed Machop use Karate Chop to swiftly deal with two Gastly.

"If you don't want to be eliminated, capture them quickly."

Cain said something and headed towards his own east gate.

The two boys then realized that it was Cain who had helped them, and quickly threw out their Poké Balls to capture the two Gastly.

What Cain didn't know was that his actions had inadvertently pushed these two onto the path of death...

The clock struck five.

Cain and the others walked out of the Bell Tower one after another, with Yan already waiting for them.

Seeing the four of them coming out energetic, Yan nodded with satisfaction.

"How did it go? Did you all catch Ghost-type Pokémon?"

The four of them nodded.

"Alright, bring out the Pokémon you caught for me to check."

After Yan finished speaking, they all released the captured Ghost-type Pokémon.

"These two Gastly have only just hatched recently, but being able to catch Pokémon inside is already quite good. Keep up the good work," Yan said to the other two who had advanced.

"Hmm, this Duskull has good potential."

Raikou captured a Duskull, which wasn't too surprising to Cain. Although he had struggled against Cain himself, Raikou's strength was unquestionable.

In retrospect, helping those two people seemed a bit unnecessary.

"This Gastly doesn't seem very energetic," Yan carefully looked at the Gastly Cain captured, "I don't think I've seen this Gastly before, it must have just moved into the Bell Tower."

Yan was quite relieved that all four of them were able to capture Ghost-type Pokémon. As a Gym Leader in Ecruteak City, it was an honor for him to have more powerful Pokémon trainers emerge from his Gym.

"Alright, since all four of you have captured Pokémon, we'll continue the fourth round of the competition tomorrow morning at nine. It's getting late already, so head back early."

After another day of competition at the Ecruteak Gym, Cain felt that he had done something stupid today, but it was no big deal and only crossed his mind briefly.

People still need to look forward, there isn't much time for regret.

----

Cain and Ditto came to a store selling Pokémon food after dinner.

"Gastly's favorite food."

"Alright, alright. Our city is known for breeding Ghost-type Pokémon, so naturally, we have no shortage of food for Ghost-type Pokémon. There are five different grades. This first one..."

The salesperson was preparing to give a long-winded speech.

"No need to say more. Can we try it?"

Cain didn't want to waste money on food that Gastly might not like, given its picky taste. If Gastly didn't like it, he'd have to buy something else.

"Try it?"

Upon hearing these words, the salesperson was a bit unhappy. However, for the sake of making a sale, they brought out samples of all five grades of food.

"Come on out, Gastly. Try these five types of food."

Gastly came out and tasted each of the five Pokémon foods in turn, making a face of disgust and spitting them all out.

The salesperson's face turned red and then pale, as their boasting was just slapped in the face by reality.

Cain was also helpless, and it seemed that he had to give up on finding food for Gastly.

Suddenly, a commotion came from outside, and Gastly shot out with a "whoosh"...
