Chapitre 13: Act of Betrayal
Samael ascends the stairs to reach the amphitheater with a huge smile on his face followed by Lily who moves rather slowly, the two of them then stand on the small platform that is rather small than what they initially thought.
One misstep then they would've fallen into the water, but that wouldn't happen if they were careful.
At the center of the small platform is a throne of fractured stone and wood.
Judging from the growing plants and the visible cracks on the throne showed that it has been fighting against the test of time for quite a while, a literal ancient throne that hides a powerful treasure called the System.
Many ancient symbols are carved on the throne, but no starking features aside from that.
Sitting on the throne was not the remains of a former king like in the common fairy tales, but a white glowing pyramid that levitates and rotates beautifully as if it was boasting its appearance to the onlookers at the current moment.
No mana can be traced, this pyramid is levitating without the help of mana which is unbelievable.
But their marvel was disturbed by the holographic box that changed above the throne.
[By fate the host of light will be chosen on this day!]
[Please step into the blue circle, and let the grace flow through you and awakens the System!]
Looking at these characters makes Samael's eyes begin to tear up as he looks at Lily that has been accompanying him through hard times, the two of them have gone through hell to reach this point. It was so surreal that Samael thought that this might be another nightmare and that he would eventually wake up from it.
It was unbelievable, yet he was certain that this is real and his life was about to change.
For a moment there Samael started crying as he hides his face with his arm, he remembered the tragedy that he experienced that causes a long journey in his mind that made him the person that he currently is right now.
A tragedy that made him lose his faith in God, but it seems he was being guided instead.
'Father, Mother, Lucius... I've made it, I've managed to keep on living and finally was able to reach a huge step in bringing justice to the Divine Sanctum of Divinity that killed you all unjustly. Watch me from the heavens, I'll make all of you proud' Samael thought, reminiscing the memory of his family.
With the help of this System, he will be able to seek the answer to his questions.
Samael would get to the bottom of why his family decided to be killed and even make the mages from the Divine Sanctum of Divinity slaughter innocent people, he would bring light to those who died unjustly that day.
Just then he calmed himself down and wipe the tears from his face, he would embrace his destiny.
God has a plan for him, and his suffering is being answered right now.
Taking one last look at Lily, he finds that she was avoiding his eyes right now. But he thought that she might also be overwhelmed with emotions, knowing that the journey they had to get here is quite hazardous for her too.
Samael smiled thinking about this before he look at the throne and find the blue circle.
It was right in front of the throne, and all he needs to do is to step inside that blue circle and he would inherit this power of good that he can use to restore justice in this world. Who knows? Maybe he can also help humanity against the Erovian race.
But everything will come in time, as long as he has the System, everything will fall into place.
Not intending to keep the System waiting for long, Samael takes his first step and started striding toward the blue circle. With one last confident step, he gets inside the blue circle before a vibrant glow started to envelop his entire body.
[Scanning the potential host's body...]

[Calibrating the System inside the potential host's body...]
Samael can see more boxes that don't contain any mana whatsoever popping up in his vision, he was confused yet he can't hide the excitement inside of him. 'At last, I can finally start making progress. I swear I won't slack off, I will become stronger, I'll restore justice, and then eventually I'll definitely ask Lily's hand in marriage...' he thought with a vibrant smile.
Without Lily, he wouldn't survive this long mentally. And that is enough to make him love her.
Bathing under the glowing light of the System, he closes his eyes in triumph as the white pyramid hovers from the throne and slowly levitates toward his chest. It then vibrates before the tip of the white pyramid slowly went inside Samael's chest.
It was bizarre, but Samael doesn't feel any discomfort whatsoever and just let it all happen.
Just as a quarter of the white pyramid was already embedded inside his chest, Samael opens his eyes when he felt a force from the side. "Huh...?" Blinking his eyes a couple of times, he finds that his feet was not on the platform anymore.
Moreover, the vibrant glowing blue light that nourishes his body disappeared completely.
Samael's mind needs to catch up for a few seconds to register what just happened to him, his eyes then darted to the side and find Lily standing on the platform with a darkened expression. "L- Lily...?" he mutters realizing what she had done.
Beyond his wildest expectation, he realized that Lily pushed him off the platform.
Nothing can beat the sheer shock that Samael is experiencing right now, he was utterly speechless as he was even doubting whether what was happening was real. But it didn't take long before he realizes that it was real.
Lily really did push him off of the platform, he was now falling into the water.
At that current moment time started to slow down as the two made eye contact, Samael squinted his eyes with clear shock as he tries to ask Lily why she would do something like this through voiceless words.
Even though he has been through a lot, this is a whole different experience he has never felt.
It was the first time for Samael to actually feel the destructive sensation of being betrayed, by the love of his life much less, something that can make anyone insane putting into account that the two of them need to go through impossibly hard times to reach this moment.
"I'm sorry, Sam..." Lily mutters softly, and a hint of guilt can be heard in her voice.
But instead of being swayed by her guilty voice, a dormant anger that is lying inside of him awakens and his eyes turn bloodshot. It was not just a chance for him, this is literally the purpose of his life and Lily took it from him.
She doesn't only betray him, but she took everything from him.
Samael didn't waver as he slowly reached the surface of the water, his will is unbreakable right now.
'Don't think that the System would accept you, Lily. It reacted to me and in case you forget, the System is a force of good. Someone that tries to take it through evil deeds wouldn't be accepted. I saw your true colors now, I can't believe I'm in love with an evil person like you!' he thought, smiling mockingly at Lily who already stepped into the blue circle.
Firmly believing the third Divine Axiom, he's one hundred percent sure that Lily would be rejected.
It was right as he thought of that, his entire world shatters once again.
A mix of confidence and ridicule in his expression completely drains away when he saw the blue light slowly enveloping Lily's entire body, just like it did when he stands inside it earlier. 'W-What..?' Samael questioned as he can't believe what is happening.
No matter how much he wanted to keep his belief, he can't deny the reality in front of him.
Like an endless tide of complete darkness that drowns and overwhelmed his entire being, Samael can feel the entirety of his belief collapse at the sight of the characters above the throne changed and into something that definitely going to be added to his list of nightmares.
That is if he would still be alive after this, which is unlikely as the water swallowed him whole.

Samael's body hits the surface of the water hard as the fall was quite high, but his eyes never shifted away from the blurry characters that congratulate Lily on becoming the host of the System that was supposed to be his destiny.
During his escape, he thought that he was already at rock bottom in his life.
But how he was wrong as he manage to find a lower point in his life. He was betrayed by the person that he loved and trusted the most, and the System was also stolen from him and was forever lost in the hands of an evil person.
It was at this very moment that the faith that he reclaimed was shattered once again.
The only difference compared to the shattering of his faith before was that there's nothing else to replace it, there's no fourth Divine Axiom. God will always choose the side of good was broken, the System chooses Lily instead of saving him from this disgusting act of betrayal.
Nothing can restore his faith in God, it was utterly stomped, ripped, and destroyed into nothing.
'Why did Lily do that to me? No... how can she have the heart to do that to me?'
'Is she also working together with the Divine Sanctum of Divinity?'
'Why did the System accept her? She was evil if she's able to do this!'
Samael can feel the hurtful question appear inside his head like a maggot that is eating his mind as he was being pulled down by the darkness of the water, he kept sinking down and starting to reach the point where heaven's light can't reach.
The anger that he felt earlier vanished, and the shock he felt earlier disappeared completely.
Even the sensation to feel emotions was ripped away from him as his eyes turn blank. He knows that this is the end, there's no destiny that he would fulfill, no justice to be restored. Only a meaningless end of a meaningless life waiting for him at the end.
For once he finally felt a total loss, like standing in the midst of darkness without a torch.
'I remember, father has also experienced this feeling' Samaael thought, he witness his father losing hope first-hand. He has never expected that he would understand his father's misery this soon, and he would probably end the same as his father.
It was unexpected, yet seems to be the end of his fate in this dark and evil world.
As he sinks to the bottom of the water, he can only look up at the fading light at the surface.
'I can't see your light anymore...'
