Chapitre 31: Scream

Crackle.

The Three-Eyed Monster slowly rose from its massive bud and stepped forward, staring intently at Zayne as if there were no one there but him.

"What's going on...? Why isn't he paying attention to us?" Roland muttered in a confusion.

"I don't know... but we have to take advantage of this and attack him from different directions!" Harald said quickly as he prepared for battle, clenching his fist tightly, "One of my hands is useless now, but I can still deliver a powerful blow, it will definitely help us win."

Roland nodded as he glanced at Aron, "Elder, how do you feel? Can you help us one more time?"

Aron removed the trickles of blood flowing from the corners of his mouth and with a sigh said, "Yeah, it'll hurt, but I think I can hold the bastard off."

Roland nodded, getting ready to fight as Three-Eyes suddenly stopped and slowly turned his head, examining the entire battlefield.

'Shit! He's spotted us! Or did...did he see us from the beginning?!' Harald inwardly exclaimed as his eyes went wide. He took a few steps back, approaching Amelia.

After a while, Three-Eyed grinned widely as his eyes narrowed, forming a horrible grimace as if an insidious plan had appeared in his mind.

"Wait... What is he going to do?" Roland muttered looking at the monster who was slowly opening his creepy jaw.

"Crrrrkkkkkllllll!" The three-eyed man made a strange sound, causing everyone to shiver as well as faint tingles in their ears. "Crrrrkkkkklll!" then again as everyone felt a sharp pain in their ears. "Crrrrkkkkkllllll!" the next time made everyone's faces twisted since they could hardly stand it.

'Agh...? Has he stopped?" Roland muttered as his pupils narrowed at the creepy grin of Three-Eyed, whose long tongue was gradually speeding up as if preparing for the final movement.

Roland turned sharply with a wave of his hand, "Everyone! Cover your ears, now!"

At the same moment, Three-Eyed let out one last scream that spread throughout the cave in a high-speed wave.

"CRRRRKKKKLLL!!!"

Harald was closer to the monster than the others, so he immediately reacted by throwing off his long coat and pouncing on Amelia, covering them both with his coat and holding her ears tightly with his hands.

Roland would have liked to help someone, but his instincts made him cover his ears as tightly as he could. Aron and Elin made it in time at the last moment, so the monster's scream was one second away from killing them.

Crackle. Crackle. Crackle.

The knights were too confused, so though they heard Roland's command, they were too slow, so the scream completely entered their minds, making their ears bleed.

"Commander... What is happening to us?" Knight asked with wide eyes as he looked at his trembling hands.

'NO!' Roland inwardly exclaimed, but it was already too late as in an instant all the knights' heads exploded.

Roland's face turned pale as a sheet of paper as he fell to the ground as well as the bodies of his men.

"This can't be true..." Roland muttered in disbelief while his body trembled violently.

The last person the Three-Eyes' scream reached was Zayne, unlike the others, he did not cover his ears, so his head should have exploded too, however, when Zayne felt intense pain, a blue rune flashed on his shoulder and he felt better as if the scream never happened.

Seeing this the Three-Eyed smirked as his tail began to move faster as though he enjoyed it.

Zayne turned and looked at the corpse of the knights from beneath which the dark blood was slowly spreading, but nothing in his gaze had changed.

'I see... The fear of the others and the horror they had to endure does not affect me at all. I need to come face to face with something scary... The more often it happens, the faster I'll get rid of my inner demons, won't I?' Zayne inwardly muttered, glanced at Three-Eyes, and his blade was covered in bright blue energy.

Three-Eyed nodded slightly, stepped forward, and spread his arms as if to greet his opponent.

Whoooooosh.

Harald threw off his coat, looked around quickly, surveying the situation, and muttered, "Shit... It's bad, Roland probably won't be able to recover soon, but what is that bastard going to do?"

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

Spiky vines suddenly began to emerge from beneath the ground with small red buds on them, shining brightly, but only to the outside as if separating Zayne from everyone else with a similar barrier.

"What...? He wants to fight Zayne one-on-one...? Is that possible? Wait, if he's that smart that means he's superior to Champion Grade!" Harald muttered with a frightened expression as a chill ran down his back.

"Higher than Champion Grade... In such a small Chaos Hearth?" Amelia's eyes went wide as she couldn't believe it, "No... It's too bad, there's too few of us..."

"It's much worse than you think, for now, Zayne has to fight alone. This bastard won't let us get close, so... it's all up to Zayne now. If he wins we will live, if he loses... then the same thing will happen to us as to the others." Harald looked at the corpses of the knights as his face darkened.

Elin fell to her knees from this horrible sight as tears flowed from her eyes, "Guys... no, this can't be real... Why did this happen to you? How...?" Elin could hardly contain herself from screaming as her desperate gaze locked on Zayne, "No... If you die too, then this will definitely be the end..."

Elin lifted her bow from the ground and aimed it at Three-Eyed with trembling hands. It was hard for her to contain her emotions, but she knew she had to help Zayne somehow since she couldn't lose another mate.

Whooooooosh.

A massive crystal arrow with tremendous speed headed toward Three-Eyed, aiming straight for his head. Three-Eyed slowly turned, frowned, and at the very last moment destroyed the spear, striking it with his long tail. Bright shards of crystal flew in front of Three-Eyed's face while his deadly gaze literally pierced Elin.

'What...? He broke it so easily? Damn, he's going to attack me now! I have to run, right? But... why can't I move then?' Elin muttered inwardly, trembling violently from the fear that completely bound her.

The three-eyed man stepped forward, raised his hand, and pointed at Elin as if preparing to attack her when suddenly a simple stone flew into his body that was no more painful to him than a mosquito bite.

"Hey, can you forgive her this time? If you don't want anyone to get in our way, you should beef up your defenses. It's probably easy for you, isn't it?" Zayne smirked, stepping forward slowly.

Three-Eyed waved his hand as the flowers on the spiky vines glowed brightly, creating an impervious red barrier around their arena, then Three-Eyed roared again, but this time he was not seeking to harm Zayne, it was a greeting.

[Flower Cave Leader, Three-Eyed Arox challenges you!]

[The roar of your level superior opponent has made you feel weak! All your stats are lowered by 10%]

[Win this battle to get rid of Chaos Heath and meet the expectations of Fate! Depending on the ending, something incredible might happen!]

'Meet the expectations of Fate? Pfff, that's not why I came here.' Zayne inwardly snorted, 'To learn better what fear is, that's what I need and he'll help me do it!'
