Chapter 15
Reyna
Her lunch with Finlay on Friday caused a chain reaction through the weekend.
Zack called Friday evening, livid, demanding a play-by-play of the afternoon, their conversations, everything he said.
She’d hung up on him.
In an effort to decompress, Reyna and Sam spent Saturday unplugged. They rode for a bit in the morning, did a little hiking, and visited Sapphire lake.
When she returned home that evening, she had a dozen or more messages from Zack, from her mother, her father, and her sister. Demanding answers: What is going on? What happened? What are you thinking?
She’d put her phone on ‘do not disturb’ and went to sleep.
Coffee was brewing and a bagel was toasting when a knock sounded at her door early Sunday morning. Still in her sleep shorts and tank, Reyna was wary as she approached the peephole.
“Open the door, hija.”
She unlatched the locks and let her father inside.
“What are you doing here so early?”
“Do you really need to ask?”
