"That.." Melia gritted her teeth but bowed her head instantly. "I apologize, I was in a hurry to set things right, that I forgot about such minor details." 

Ana laughed. Melia only meant that she was so worried about the mess Ana had created that she forgot to do formality since Ana did not deserve respect in reality.

"Hmm, but I can see that you did not know how to do it from the start." Ana stood up and walked in front of melia who was still bowing her head.

"Your shoulders are too stiff. Your head should be lower, I am not only duchess but your mistress. You are my servant.

So bow your head like a servant does." Melia felt humiliated but there was nothing she could say to refute.

While nobles only bow their heads, servants bend their backs completely and bow too low to show their respect.

Most of the time, head maids who were from noble families were not forced to behave like servants. But legally they were servants of the family.
