It had now been a couple of hours since Hade first stepped foot in the First Imperial School and he was just starting to come to terms with the image his first impression might have created him.
Hade knew that the incident with Rozar in class the previous day had placed a target on his back.
For anyone with ambitions to top the class, and he guessed that that was almost everybody, he had become the guy to beat.
So much for the quiet school life he'd imagined.
'Well, no matter,' Hade thought to himself.
'I could use some practice to improve my Order spells anyway.'
Although he had gotten the better of Rozar yesterday, Hade knew that he was still far from actually going toe to toe against the top dogs in the Origin Class when it came to magic law proficiency.
It only made sense.
He had only started to train his law just two weeks ago and most of these guys already had more than a year's experience.
'Better not slack off then,' Hade thought to himself as he made his way to the dormitory kitchen.
It was around a quarter to six in the morning and he was looking for some water to drink after completing his workout routine for the day.
Signature shaggy brown hair, a dark skin tone, and exceptionally round eyes that would've put Wil's to shame, Hade inadvertently came face to face with the second and last dorm mate he had not gotten the chance to meet yesterday.
'Seriously? This guy?' Hade sighed exasperatedly in his head.
It was the same student who had glared at him the entire time in class yesterday.
Honestly, of all the students Hade wouldn't have minded sharing the dormitory with, this person was in the top three least likable and he was right up there with Rozar and that other eerie goth twin.
Hade remembered silently wishing that the last dorm mate be anyone but this guy but it seemed like he had jinxed it.
To top it all off, it wasn't even like Quinn was the ideal dorm mate either. He had that annoying lazy grin, smile, or whatever the hell it was.
The student was having breakfast but both his eyes were following Hade's every move as if he was a suspect thief in a jewelry store.
"How did you do it?" He asked suddenly.
'Huh?' Hade turned, mildly surprised. So the weirdo could do something other than glare it seemed.
"What?" He asked.
"How did you beat Rozar?" The student clarified.
'Wait, is that it?' Hade thought to himself.
Given the malice with which he said Rozar's name, it was easy to tell that the two did not have the best of relationships.
'Is this why he is so fixated? Because he is simply curious how I dealt with Rozar so easily?'
Hade was about to reply that it was just luck when Quinn walked in with his signature lazy smile.
"I see that both of you are quite the early risers," he said. "At this point, you will both start to make me look bad.
"Good morning Hade."
"Hey," Hade replied shortly.
"Dorian," said Quinn, looking at their third dorm mate.
'So his name is Dorian,' Hade gathered.
Well 'Dorian' did not reply. He simply stared at the thin bespectacled teen whilst his forehead slowly contorted into a frown.
In response, Quinn just shrugged before going on about his business.
Suddenly, Hade noticed a peculiar anomaly.
"Why are you both wearing your combat gear?" He asked.
He only noticed this oddity when Quinn intentionally brushed Dorian's shoulder and the latter glared at the former like he wanted to kill him.
At first, Hade thought that since Dorian spent most of his time in the training room, it was only natural that he was dressed in the gear since it was more exercise savvy.
However, now that Quinn was also donning the black gear, it couldn't be a simple coincidence.
Quinn looked at him weirdly. "Didn't you check the class schedule?" He asked. "Today is the weekly Magic Combat day. The class is mandatory, even I can't miss it."
"Shit," Hade cursed under his breath. He had been too tired he had forgotten to check the schedule yesterday!
As if that was not enough, Quinn soon added to the bad news. "Combat lessons begin at six in the morning, that's like five minutes from now."
'Great, just fucking great!' Hade swore yet again which had somehow become a tendency of his. It was one of the many bad habits he had picked up from Leofred.
...
Within the building assigned to the first years of the First Imperial School was an enormous indoor training ground.
The ground was roughly the size of two football pitches and garnished all around its sides were weapons of all shapes and sizes.
There were swords, sabers, katanas, maces, arrows, shields, gauntlets, lances, spears and many more.
Spread out all around the enclosure were twenty-something students.
The boys wore plain black full-body combat suits while the girls donned a pale blue tight-fitting apparel that clung to their youthful voluptuous figures.
In the center of the ground was an elevated circular platform, exactly 50 meters in diameter and about half a meter in height.
Standing on this platform were three beauties, one with dark brown hair, another sparkling silver, and the last a gorgeous ruby red.
None of the other students in the structure, neither male nor female ventured too close to these three. After all, they were the three goddesses of the First Imperial School's Origin Class.
They were; Naomi Oxborn, Aliandra Hornraven, and Iolana Roxley, the last of whom like Quinn, had also been absent during the lecture Hade made his first appearance.
"Tsk!" began the gorgeous redhead. "The only chance I had to watch someone put that muscle-head Rozar in his rightful place and I blew it."
Even though the incident had just taken place yesterday, Iolana was still deeply regretful of having missed the newcomer in action.
If Naomi was the serious one and Aliandra was the delightful one, then she was definitely the wild one.
While Naomi hated all men in general, Iolana only detested the ones who treated women like they were an inferior species, or even worse, like they were trophies to be won.
She glared at a certain robust teen who was doing push-ups in the distance.
Rozar, always on alert, stood up puzzled and scratched his hair before going back down once more.
"Stupid muscle-head," Iolana muttered under her breath.
Above all, she hated men who thought they were better than everybody else. A particular someone with dark blue hair and piercings on his ears came into mind.
"Don't worry," said Aliandra. "Magic Combat is a mandatory class. He'll show up."
She too had things she wanted to say to the new guy.
"He better. I just hope that he is not a jerk. We already have enough of those around here," Iolana replied while not-so-subtly hinting in Saul's direction.
Sensing their gaze on his person, the dark blue-haired teenager stared back at the trio briefly before going back to sleep.
Iolana clenched her fists while Aliandra smiled wryly. Thankfully, before things could escalate, like such was the norm with Iolana, Professor Miller entered the training ground.
Unlike the students, the loli was dressed in her regular plain white professor robes.
"Students gather around," Calley instructed.
She took a glance around her small class of students.
"Where is Hade?" She asked upon noticing his absence.
Everyone looked around. That's right, the newcomer wasn't here yet.
"Professor, I'm sorry but did you just say 'Hade'?" Iolana interrupted, her expression full of shock.
Even in a world where parents had become awfully creative with their children's names, Hade was a name still far from common.
"That's right, Iolana," Calley affirmed. "I forgot that you missed Magic History yesterday. Let's just hope it won't negatively affect your test scores come end of semester."
As Iolana was left confused, Calley directed a questioning gaze towards Quinn and Dorian who were standing near the back.
If anyone knew where Hade was, it would be his dorm mates.
To her dismay, Dorian's face remained as blank and as indifferent as ever. As far as he was concerned, the whole thing had nothing to do with him.
On the other hand, Quinn just grinned sheepishly as his small beady eyes dwindled to an unbelievably tiny size.
Before Calley could ask though, the doors to the training ground suddenly screeched open.
Naturally, all the twenty-four heads turned towards the entrance just in time to see a redhead enter, clad in the familiar plain black combat suit.
'Of course, I just had to be the last one here,' Hade sighed.
For some reason, Professor Miller looked amused while some of the girls just stared at him awkwardly.
Unbeknownst to Hade, his outfit which was a bit too tight for his liking was revealing a rigid and athletic build hidden beneath the black fabric.
Not just one but a few other fainthearted females in the crowd could not help but gulp.
Both Quinn and Dorian simultaneously rolled their eyes. Someone certainly had a knack for making an entrance.
Before things could properly cool down, a certain beauty suddenly sprinted towards Hade, crashing into his chest with a giant bear hug!
