Chapitre 3: Farewell
After a wonderful evening, Zonna was in for an earthquake the next day. During a breakfast at which Enzo was also present, her parents announced that another separation awaited her and the young count. It turned out that her mother, Queen Est, had secured Zonna a place at the Raalo Academy thanks to the connections she had. This was the best school in Altea and all scientific disciplines were taught there. It also had divisions for magic, the use of various weapons or hand-to-hand combat. It was up to the student what they wanted to learn during their time at the school. All the most talented young Maji applied for a place at the academy. Tuition lasted five years, except that after two years students were given a three-month break to return to their families and rest.
Getting into the academy was very difficult. There was a special committee that considered at the very outset whether a candidate's application would be admitted to the actual admission process. There were no clear criteria for this, so acquaintances were important. However, it did not happen that someone who did not represent the right level was admitted to the school. Indeed, once a person was admitted by the committee, he or she had to pass a very difficult test that eliminated candidates with too low level. In addition, a high registration fee had to be paid before taking the test; after all, this was a school for the elite. If one did not have the necessary knowledge and skills, it only provided money to the Raalo Republic. This was not the end of the expenses, as tuition fees had to be paid in advance or periodically. Raalo Academy was expensive, but its graduates were prominent figures on the continent. Those who graduated from it did not regret the time spent there or the money expended.
Zonna was surprised by her parents' decision to send her to the school. In the first moment, she felt uncontrollable resentment towards them. She thought they wanted to separate her from Enzo. However, the real surprise came after a while. Her father decided to announce her and Enzo's engagement in two years' time during the academy break. The young couple were in shock. After the initial discouragement came news they had not expected. It was not the end! After graduation from the academy, there would be their wedding combined with Zonna's coronation as queen! It took the young Maya a few minutes to believe what had happened. Stunned by the unexpected turn of events, they accepted the royal couple's proposal. It meant another two years of separation, but they received approval and official support for their wedding.
Interestingly, King Ivi promised Enzo that twice during Zonna's schooling in Raalo, he would organise a month-long trip for him to visit her. At the same time, he would provide someone to manage the county during this time. This meant that it would not be two and then three years of continuous separation, but they would get the opportunity to get together sooner.
Agreeing to this course of the next few years, Zonna had nothing left to do but get ready to go to Raalo. She would spend the next years of her life there. Officially, she was not yet a student of the Academy, as she still had to pass the tests, but no one had any doubts about that. Education had always been a high priority in the Sochi family, care was taken to properly educate members of the family and the young princess was no exception. Zonna decided to pack only the essentials she would need for the journey, buying the rest on the spot. She didn't see the point in carting them so many kilometres.
Together with the princess, three people were to go to Raalo. They were Marzee, Sebastios and Ramza. Marzee was to have the same role as she does now, to be Zonna's assistant and servant. She was to help with the organisation of the day and the day-to-day life. Sebastios and Ramza were the magis who were to be responsible for the safety of the princess. They were brothers from the Nord race. Both were tall and well-built. They had blond hair and brown eyes, characteristic of their race. They were not exceptionally handsome, but one could not say that they were ugly. They were well acquainted with Zonna, and often talked to her about mana and magic.
Zonna spent the whole of her last day in Balmasheglod in Enzo's company, relieved of all responsibilities. Talking together and walking around the lake made their time pass faster than they would have liked. They spent the evening on the castle tower watching the capital city light up with night lights.
"By this time tomorrow, I will already be far from the castle on my way to Raalo." Zonna began the conversation after a long silence. She sat next to Enzo, who gently embraced her.
"This will be the first time you have left our kingdom. You have a long journey ahead of you. Tell me, are you nervous about all this?"
Zonna shook her head to deny it. "No, I'm even excited at the thought of seeing other countries. Plus, I will have access to the magic division at the Academy. There are magis there with the greatest theoretical knowledge on magical subjects. My childhood dream was to spend at least one day there, and now I will have the opportunity to be there every day for over five years. All this excitement makes me feel ashamed, because I almost forget that the price for this is our subsequent separation."
Enzo smiled and hugged the princess tighter. "There's nothing wrong with how you feel. It's good that you are looking forward to learning in Raalo. You have nothing to blame yourself for. Get as much as you can out of being there for yourself. That way when you come back you will be a better queen for us."
Zonna brought her face closer to Enzo. "Thank you for your support, beloved. We have to go to bed soon, and there is something else I would like to do with you." She said, and then began to kiss the Count. They spent an hour in this way then went to rest before saying goodbye tomorrow.
The next day, on the edge of Balmaszeglod, the princess was saying goodbye to her family and her beloved. She was in the embrace of her mother asking her to take care of herself during these two years in Raala and to write to them as often as possible. The teenager, despite her maturity, was unable to hold back the tears that were falling, but tried with a smile to promise her mother that she would keep herself safe and write letters to her every week. She then said goodbye to Enzo gently hugging him and walked over to her father. He embraced her warmly wished her a good journey and, like his wife, asked her to take care of herself. Furthermore, he handed Sebastios a letter and told her to open it when she crossed the border from Raalo.
After all these farewells, the princess, together with her escort, got into the carriage and departed. King Ivi, together with his wife Est headed towards the castle. They had previously informed Enzo that they had a very important conversation to have with him in the evening.
