Chapitre 5: Chapter 5: Rivals Duel

The two of them made their way to the Spell Duel arena, a large octagonal arena with symbols from each of the halls inlaid in the floor. The stands were filled with spectators, eager to see the two students go head to head.

It looks like word got around the campus quickly about their duel because there were more then a few hundred students and professors including most of the administrative board.

Once they stepped onto the Octagon the emblems of both Centaur and Dragon halls began to glow in their respective colors.

Then around the area the blank banners and tapestry's began to glow and change into ones of both halls. Signifying the bout was going to be between the Dragon and Centaur halls.

The duel master, an experienced wizard, stepped into the center of the arena. "The rules of this spell duel are simple," he announced. "You may use any spell within your ability. But any potions or other enhancements are strictly forbidden."

The students nodded in agreement and the duel master stepped back, giving the signal for the duel to begin.

Arin and Marcus stood opposite each other, their eyes locked in a fierce stare. The air around them crackled with magic, as they both summoned their power, ready to unleash their spells.

Marcus was the first to act, shooting a bolt of lighting at Arin. But Arin was quick to respond, summoning a blade of wind to deflect the attack. Marcus continued to shoot bolts of lighting, but Arin was able to dodge and deflect each one.

Next, Arin summoned a dozen stone bullets, He began shooting them at his feet trying to knock Marcus off balance.

Marcus countered with a spell of his own, Marcus countered with a spell of his own he created a lighting web which all the bullets exploded when they came into contact.

The two students continued to trade spells, both showing impressive control and skill in their magic. Arin summoned a hail of stone bullets, while Marcus created a wall of electricity to block the attack.

As the spell duel continued, the crowd cheered and gasped at the incredible displays of magic. Finally, at the apex of the battle Arin noticed something on the ground in the middle of the arena.

A rune! He thought to himself while trying to keep Marcus at bay by sending several wind blades his way, He then sprinted as fast as he could toward the center and study the rune pulling out a vial of ink in the process.

Marcus notice him running towards the middle and began to scream. " COWARD!!! YOU CAN NOT RUN FROM ME OR THIS DUEL!" He sneered as he began charging a massive amount of magical energy and preparing the strongest beam of lighting he can fathom.

There was a aura of intensity and pressure growing in the area. Everyone could feel it getting stronger professor and student alike could tell this was no friendly duel between students but a battle.

A battle of life or death quite possibly if it was not for the enchantments made to the arena. But that only softens and weakens the power of the magic. The Duel Master was even accessing the spell Marcus was using.

Arin slid into the center to quickly see what the rune looks like. He then pours the vial of ink onto the floor and begins writing it on the back side of his left hand.

Once complete he could feel the rune able to activate but not knowing what it can do until he either uses it or checks it in his book back in the hall.

Taking a deep breath and muttering " Well here goes nothing." Arin activates the new rune while pointing his hand toward Marcus channeling as much power as he can into the rune.

His fist started glowing bright gold and started illuminating the whole arena brighter and brighter then a powerful burst of radiant energy shot out towards Marcus.

At the same time Marcus saw Arin's hand start to glow and knew something with had changed he is using a new magic spell.

And so Marcus casted the spell he had been charging up at the same time as Arin's new ability not knowing who would come out on top.

All anyone could see is both spells being unleashed and colliding with one another making a explosion that blinded everyone in the arena.

The safety shields even shook from the power of this reaction to two supercharged spells from two gifted mages.

Once the dust settled and everyone could see the arena which had became a battlefield there was one who was standing barely and another whom was knock off the arena into the safe zone.

The crowd erupted in cheers and applause. The students from all of the halls were on their feet, whistling and shouting.

Arin's classmates from Dragon Hall were the loudest of all, proudly cheering their friend on as he emerged victorious.

Arin was declared the winner. He walked over to Marcus, who was getting back to his feet, and offered him a hand to help him up. "That was an impressive show of magic," Arin said, a look of respect in his eyes.

"You too," Marcus replied. "It was a close fight now get your filthy hands off of me."

From that day on, Marcus and Arin may have not became friends, But they both gained a little respect each other for their skills in magic and for the close spell duel they had shared.

In the stands, Lily was beaming with pride as she watched Arin bask in the adoration of the crowd.

She couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the power and grace he displayed in the spell duel.

As she turned to Sam, she saw her slump dejectedly in her seat, but even she couldn't deny the impressive display of magic from Arin.

As the applause finally began to die down, the headmaster approached Arin and Marcus, a broad smile on his face.

"Well done, both of you!" he declared. "This spell duel was a true display of the magic and skill that this school is known for. I couldn't be more proud of both of you."

With that, the headmaster turned to the crowd and raised his hand, signaling for everyone to calm down.

"I know you're all eager to continue celebrating, but let's not forget that there are still classes to attend. I hope this spell duel will serve as inspiration for all of you to work harder and strive for greatness."

With that, the students slowly started to make their way out of the arena, chatting excitedly about the spell duel.

As Arin walked out of the Spell Duel arena, the cheering and applause from the crowd still ringing in his ears, he felt a sense of pride and accomplishment wash over him.

He had won the duel against Marcus and proved that his training and hard work had paid off. And was excited to learn more about the new rune he just discovered.

He took a deep breath and let the cool breeze wash over him as he made his way towards his next class.

Arin was excited for his Magic Items class. He had always been fascinated by the various magical artifacts and tools that mages used to augment their spells and make their magic even more powerful.

As he entered the classroom, he saw that Lily was already there, sitting in the front row with a look of intense focus on her face.

"Hey Arin!" Lily said as she spotted him entering the room. "Good job in the duel. You were amazing!"

"Thanks, Lily," Arin replied with a smile. "It was a tough match, but I'm glad I was able to come out on top."

As the rest of the class filtered in, the professor, a tall man with white hair and a long beard, stood at the front of the room, holding a small crystal sphere in his hand.

"Good afternoon, students, I am Professor Celeste " She said in a sweet caring voice.

"Today, we will be exploring the magical properties of crystals. These small, yet powerful, artifacts have been used by mages for centuries to enhance and focus their spells."

As the professor began her lecture, Arin and Lily listened intently, taking notes and soaking in the information.

The professor showed them various examples of crystals and demonstrated how they could be used to amplify spells, store magic, and even enhance the natural abilities of certain creatures.

As the class continued, Arin couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to learn about magic in such depth and detail. He was excited to continue his studies and explore the vast and limitless world of magic.

Arin walks into the Adventuring class and sees Professor Althea an experienced adventurer, and her passion for exploring and discovering new things was contagious.

The students are all seated in a circle, with Professor Althea is pacing in the center.

She stops and turns to the class.

"Welcome, students. Today we are going to be talking about the dangers of adventuring. I see many of you eager faces and I must remind you that adventuring is not for the faint of heart. You will be facing creatures and obstacles that will test your courage, your wit, and your magic."

She walks around the circle, looking at each student in turn. When she gets to Marcus, she pauses for a moment, and then continues.

"Marcus, I understand you have just come from a Spell Duel. I hope you have learned your lesson and will not be so quick to engage in such foolish behavior in the future."

Marcus nods, feeling a little ashamed. He didn't expect to be singled out in front of the class like that.

Professor Althea continues. "Now, let's talk about supplies. When you are adventuring, you must always be prepared. You will need food, water, shelter, and of course, magical items to protect yourself."

She goes on to explain the different types of magical items that are available, from potions that can heal wounds, to enchanted weapons that can be used to fight off creatures. The class is fascinated by all the different items and their abilities, and everyone is eager to try them out for themselves.

Arin can feel Marcus's eyes on him every so often, but he does his best to ignore him and focus on the class.

At the end of class, Professor Althea assigned them their first group project: to create a plan for an adventure and present it to the class in two weeks.

Arin was excited to start working on the project and couldn't wait to see what adventures lay ahead for him and his classmates, Arin feels like he has learned a lot and can't wait to put his newfound knowledge to the test.

Arin gathered his things from Adventuring class and said goodbye to Professor Althea. He was excited to finally have his first full day of classes under his belt.

As he made his way back to the Great Hall for dinner, he reflected on the day's events. He had learned a lot about history of magic and the different types of magic items, and he was intrigued by the idea of adventuring.

When he arrived at the Great Hall, the aroma of roast beef and vegetables filled his nostrils. He made his way to a table and sat down, digging into his food with a grateful sigh.

As he ate, he chatted with a few of the other students at his table, all of them from different halls. He was pleasantly surprised to find that everyone was friendly and welcoming.

After dinner, Arin made his way back to Dragon Hall. The halls were lit by enchanted lanterns that cast a warm, golden light on the students as they went about their evening routines.

When he arrived back at his room, he found that his roommate was already there, sitting at his desk and studying.

"Hey, how was your day?" Arin asked as he dropped his bag on the floor.

"It was good," Tristan replied. "I had some interesting classes. How about you?"

Arin told him about his classes and the duel with Marcus, and the two of them chatted for a bit before getting ready for bed.

As Arin crawled into bed, he felt a sense of contentment wash over him. He was exactly where he was meant to be, surrounded by magic and learning all about it. He fell asleep with a smile on his face, dreaming of the adventures that lay ahead.
